    10-time gold glover, 400+ homers, Braves record for homers in a season (50), AND CARRIED the Braves when Chipper was banged up in 05 and 06. What a player!

    If Willie Mays says "He's the best CF I've ever seen." That should have been enough with all of his Gold Gloves to make him a first ballot HOF'er. Griffey had a better swing (sweetest LH swing of his generation), and Griffey had HOF defense...but Andruw's glove work was at least marginally better.

    I'm a die hard Mets fan, but maaaaan of the Braves weren't a close second favorite to watch on TBS in the early 2000's with the Jones boys, Marcus Giles, Julio Franco, and Rafael furcal. Such a grit and grind kind of team during that streak of division titles. It's why I always loved the Mets braves rivalry back then

    I remember when I was 7 years old in 1998 being at Turner Field early, and going down to the field to try and get Andres Galarraga to sign a hat. I think he had a rough day, because he passed me up, along with a few other players. I was at the point of tears,but then, Andruw Jones came up to me, smiled, signed my hat with his little AJ initials and handed it back to me. From that moment on Andruw was my favorite player of all time. Many talk about how he struck out a lot, but I remember him smiling walking back to the dugout and he just genuinely seemed happy to be there. Andruw Jones was a hero and inspiration to me, and I hope that he makes it into the HoF where he deserves.
    Fun fact, from 1997-2007 andruw jones had a higher dWAR than any other defender by a margin of 10.2. The same margin as 2nd-56th

    If he hadn't had the severe drop after 30, you're looking at a first ballot HOF no question. But come on, 10 Gold Gloves, 5 All-Star appearances, 434 Home Runs, just shy of 2,000 Hits, he should be in.

    • @elliemyers6435
      @elliemyers6435 Год назад

      Yeah, his production took an insane nosedive after 30, which is why he's not in. But I agree he deserves it. His glove alone should get him in, as he was the best defensive CF of his era and arguably the best all time.

  • @from_mars424
    @from_mars424 Год назад

    I hope the HOF considerations go further than just his defensive and offensive accolades and numbers. HOF's each have made an immense impact on the game. Andruw was more than a player: he was, and still continues to be an ambassador to the sport. He carries the legacy of Curacao baseball on his shoulders: players like Didi Gregorius, Andrelton Simmons, Ozzie Albies, Kenley Jansen, Xander Bogaerts, Jurickson Profar, Jonathan Schoop, all grew up wanting to be like him, and make it to the big leagues. The Curacao Kid has impacted baseball forever and deserves to be in the HOF.

  • @jacobrichardson1952

    As a Yankees/Brewers fan, I remember when I first saw Andruw Jones back in 2002 it was his diving catch against the expos.
    Then when I was 10 in 2011 Jones in the Yankees I remember literally getting goosebumps when he hits homers, 11 in 2012 same thing but then he was leaving MLB.
    And that's why I can't hate on Andruw Jones he's definitely dangerous and I like him.

    Andruw Jones played very shallow centerfield. Daring batters to hit over his head. Because he was shallow a soft hit he as able to move in and make play. If enough contact made by batter to go back over his head 3 things happened. 1) His ears detected the noise of the bat and instantly knew the power 2) His eyes see the flight of the ball and compute the trajectory and 3) His legs could generate the speed to get to the proper location quickly. In most cases he didn't need to dive. He made it look so easy most people didn't even understand the magnitude of the play.

    I might be wrong but the idea I have is that he was not as dedicated as he should have been when it comes to working out and taking good care of his body in the off-season and working his bat. The thing is that he was so great in his early years that we expected so much more from him, he was basically done as an everyday player by the age 31. But I do believe he was great enough for 10 years that he deserves to be in HOF.

    Was UNLV Alumni 3B Matt Willams
    World Series Winner and has been to 3 World Series with 3 different teams
    Giants DiamondBacks & Indians
    Played GG Caliber or close to for the majority of His career
    He sewed up The Hot Corner for close to a decade in the early part of His career
    When healthy .
    & there it is …. Had it not been for injuries I know We’d be talking about Matt as an
    All Time Great HOF 3B
    Whenever that Man played He straight up RAKED
    He was always in the top of the HR races
    He’d get injured, we’d forget about him and then next season there He is again atop The HR Board and on a contending MLB Team
    Matt played Very Good to Great Defense @ The Hot Corner
    & always hit with the very best of all MLB

    He should be in. He was not a 1st ballot but he should be in. He came in just after the peak of Griffey and played just as well and had very good offense numbers. The HOF is for the elite. His offense was not elite but very good. His defense was elite and I think when you combine his very good offense to his elite defense he should in. I am sad he did not get in this year, hopefully next. I have never seen him not smiling either, lol always enjoying life.
