      It's just something fun for creative people (just like people dye their own hair) and the dogs eat up the attention they get from people. I just colored my pups tail and paws pink with little pink highlights on her head. People love to see her and she gets even more attention from people around her which she loves. I'm not necessarily into the competition level just because it's not my thing, but I love the low level because it's fun for me and my pup.

    I don't understand why people haven't figured this out yet but I guess I will spell it out. Competition is different then real life everything is bigger and more extreme. If you were to watch a regular grooming competition most dogs wouldn't put up with that as well. These dogs are trained from a young age that grooming is a fun relaxing experience. These competitions are where groomers show off new techniques, styles, skills, and products. Think like a fashion show no one actually wears any of that, it shows what is possible. A very small amount of these dogs lives are spent competing, and the rest of the time they are just "normal dog" albeit with a bit more color. All products used are pet formulated and 100% safe. This type of grooming has been around since the 60's if they were looking for attention they would have it by now. So take this info into account while you try to act like a expert on something you had never heard of before today.

      Its harmless. What is bad is when you have an owner with a severely matted dog and they persist on a long hair cut. So you dematt the dog because the owner refuses to cut him short so the dog is tortured. Dog dye is safe and 100% harmless. The dog feels no pain and at the end of the day is as happy as can be because of all the attention it gets.

    I’m a dog groomer and I’m not a fan of this sort of ‘creative grooming’. Yes the dogs get ‘used’ to it in terms of the hours it takes to get them show ready, usually they are trained from puppyhood and they are used to being handled and standing still. I just don’t see the appeal. Let dogs be dogs. Look after their specific needs in terms of regular grooming and step away from the hair dye.

    • @kaitlyne1870
      @kaitlyne1870 4 года назад

      They don't get groomed any more for this than for dog shows. I actually know some show dogs and they like the attention they get from the grooming process. It's just like leash training a dog, if you don't start until they're adults and then only walk them once every 1 to 6 months, they won't like it. But if they get brushed (and maybe dyed) every day, just like being walked every day, it becomes a bonding experience for you and your dog. And the attention they get from strangers helps to socialize them, hence the confidence boost.

      There are grooming conventions/competitions in most major cities all over the country. Sunday is usually the creative competition. You can find a list of events at www.barkleigh.com/shows/ there are others but these are some of the bigger shows. If you would like to see more check out the documentary Well Groomed on HBO.

      The dog was laying down, falling asleep. Dogs won't stand longer than they want to. And, even if the groomer didn't care about the dogs comfort (most, if not all, do care) you still wouldn't want to push them past their limit because the squirming and sitting down suddenly would ruin your design, slow you down (they only have a certain amount of time in the competitions), and probably get them disqualified for being too hard on the dog. In regular grooming competitions (I don't know about creative competitions) they actually give one groomer a "Kindness Award" for whoever goes above and beyond for their dogs comfort. The treatment of the dog is something they are actually judged on officially.

    I see nothing wrong with it I agree it's extreme but the dogs look healthy & happy & when people say how can you tell you can just by looking at them I have a certain type of breed & they need to be brushed daily & my dog enjoys it I take 4 to 5 hours grooming her my 2nd dog is a pit he wants me to groom him as well even tho there is no point but I still do cuz he loves being pampered just like my other dog. I have 2 other pets that run up to me to be groomed I feel like if you keep your pets clean they with like it & just get used to it and expect it just like they expect quality food when you try changing it for regular dog food

      The longest creative grooming competitions are 2.5hrs long with a break in the middle. Pet dog grooming sessions are 1 to 2hrs long because the the dog was not brought up with a healthy grooming routine. So the pet is stressed and fighting getting a fraction of the work done for about the same time. Where a creative is calm relaxed and gets a break. So you tell me what is more cruel?

    Im trying to learn why every one is saying "Stop Grooming" its being said in comment s with no context. Now I am even more confused.
    To be honest I have since Halloween of 2018 when I saw the pet costume parade wondered "Is hair dye safe for pets?" and "Does a dog really want to be dressed up as any number of Star Wars characters? Why do we do this to our pets?
    but if dogs love being dressed up the Pokémon Cosplays do look adorable.
    personal experience, my Dog hated hats. We could never get her to keep a hat on for more then 10 seconds.

    The process is too long and not healthy for dogs to stand for hours on end. They get dehydrated for sure and I doubt they are given breaks to run free to roll in the grass or lay down and sleep. So for that reason alone I don't think it's a good thing. Plus if the dog messes up the design I would cear them getting disciplined for it. I don't see a person hell bent on gaining so much self gratification that if the dog destroys the design that person will react without negative emotions. Even if the dog isn't physically disciplined dogs just a verbal discipline is too much to top off their end of the deal of standing and going through the whole process of endless hours of grooming. Too much for a dog to endure just for a person's ego. The coloring doesn't really bother me because it's vegetable dye and dogs are basically color blind. The see in monochromatic shades of grays, blacks, and browns. So there is no harm in that it's just the process is too strenuous. Forcing dogs too be immovable for hours is just as damaging as running a dog too exhaustion. Too much just to get a cheaply made trophy and a measly $2500. I'd rather sit on the couch holding my big Pit's head in my lap as he snores away. Much more satisfying.

    • @JdllesTheTinman
      @JdllesTheTinman 4 года назад +1

      You paid attention to the prize amount but not the grooming time? It doesn't go for endless hours she said 1 to 2 hours which is standard grooming times, most stick to 1hr but she gets away with more because Ditto just lays down and sleeps while she works. If you had ever actually watched a competition you would realize the creative competition is much more laid back then breed specific competitions. Creative is subjective as art is it dose not have to be perfect. You are assuming alot and getting it wrong the majority of the time. They don't do it for the money they do it because they love it, it's a passion and an art. They spend much more then they make. But it's a great way to learn, grow, and test your techniques vs others in the industry. I implore you to actually look this stuff up and not just guess or make assumptions because people that don't know anything might assume you do and take it as facts.

    • @breezy1233
      @breezy1233 3 года назад

      Kimberley, as someone who's competed in these comps I can tell you your assumptions are wrong. The dogs don't stand for hours on end. Dying is done prior to the comp and done in stages.
      My poodle I used to show would fall asleep during the dying process, it was so therapeutic to her, massaging dye into her coat. It was very relaxing for both of us.
      The comp usually lasts for 1-2hrs which is standard grooming time for any pet dog. Dyes are non toxic, edible, and completely safe. Please remember these dogs are owned by groomers, they are used to handling and the grooming process, there's nothing distressing about the process to these dogs. The last thing a comp groomer wants is to cause stress to their comp dog, you want them calm and still so you can work on them. I've never in 15 years seen a stressed or upset comp dog.

      The fact that some dogs are really shy until they get a cute haircut/color that gets them more attention. Then they come out of their shell and prance around like they're king/queen of the world. We've had dog that were very anxious when they first came to our shop, and then walked out with all the conference in the world and were excited when they got dropped off for their next appointment. It's the most amazing thing to see and brightens everyone's day at work. 😍

    I don't think anything is toxic for the dog..it just seems to me that it has nothing to actually do with the dog. I don't mind if owners want to dye some of the hair on a dog's tail or ears, but making a dog endure that long & constant of a procedure is too much. It's all about the groomer showing off and zero to do with the dog & their personality, happiness, or wants.
    I wouldn't post hate to the groomers though.

    • @kaitlyne1870
      @kaitlyne1870 4 года назад

      It's all broken down into short grooming session. In fact, the reason they can pre-dye and do basic shaping beforehand is because they have such a short amount of time during the competition. The competitions don't last any longer than a regular grooming session for a pet dog getting a normal haircut. And, in addition, these dogs are used to it, so it's not as stressful for them as it is for most pets. If the grooming sessions took to long the dogs would keep sitting and squirming and the groomer wouldn't be able to get all the detail they need, so they definitely give the dogs a rest. 😊

      @@kaitlyne1870 My Aunt owns a grooming business & I spent years learning all the different cuts for a standard poodle.. some can take awhile with the hand scissoring.. when I think about it doing all those patterns aren't really any different than dying their hair.
      I truly have no harsh feelings about those who want to do it. I guess it just has me wondering how much we do TO our dogs for vanity and how much is FOR our dogs.. I guess it really doesn't matter. If the dog is healthy and happy that is all that matters. :)

    • @kaitlyne1870
      @kaitlyne1870 4 года назад

      @@LaPetiteBoulin certainly some of it is done for vanity, I mean, if it was *just* for the dogs, they'd just get shave Downs in various lengths lol. So, I see what you mean. I wasn't trying to be harsh or critical with my comment (I apologize if it came off that way), I was just clearing up the matter of how long it takes because I wasn't sure if you were familiar with grooming. 😊
      Although, even the things we do for our own vanity can benefit the dogs as long as we take their comfort and, of course health, into account. I have a Chinese Crested Dog who just got her feet and tail colored pink and it's really helping to get her socialized because people just love how cute and unique she looks. So, even though it's certainly for my vanity (I'm mature enough to admit that. 😂) It's really helping her come out of her shell and become a much more confident dog.
      I hope you have a wonderful weekend (what's left of it, at least). ❤️
