@@pho3nix-But McCain was ULTIMATELY responsible for the decision and making sure his aids were doing their job properly. You can't wear the crown and then say it was someone else's fault. It's the same for Steve in this moment. He says he "inherited" a dysfunctional campaign but the truth is that he helped create it. Sure Sarah was the big problem but he was the one who recommended her and then when it became increasingly clear she was unstable and unfit for office he ignored it and kept trying to force her to fit his role rather than do the responsible thing and replace her with someone who was actually ready to be President.
We thought this was crazy and then came Trump...

Overall he was very good but he made a massively blatant error in not properly vetting Sarah before picking her. However, it was an uphill battle for him to beat Obama after 8 years of Bush and he was trying to stick to the McCain the statesman line but Srah derailed him and made it about her.
It was John McCain's call. I hate to rag on a dead man but HE chose the Quitta from Wasilla. Schmidt just did his job.

I'm a republican and voted for McCain, but it was very difficult to do because I just couldn't stand ignorant Palin, or the frightening thought of her being so close to the white house. Very irresponsible to nominate someone so ignorant and I'll prepared for the role of vice president. And yet, the people cheering for Palin and who say how much they loved her are the same people cheering for Trump.
Palin was but one person. The millions who followed her and cheered her on, well, that's the real problem [see January 6, 2021].
God bless Steve Schmidt. Fact is, this was the first election where I did not vote Republican. I couldn't do it. I have still not returned.

in a way, this is palin's legacy: she was governor of a state with less than a million people in it, for 2 and a half years. then she quit. that's all.

You know what threw it off for me? Watching Tina Fey do her imitation before I saw this movie. I kind of expected Tina Fey and it took awhile to get into Julianne Moore's portrayal. Once I was able to sync my mind into this version I saw something unique and gratifying. Julianne Moore does the 'real' Sarah Palin. By the end of the movie I was convinced. Tina Fey does the 'Jerry Lewis' version, which is great for what it is. But this is the real deal.
Umm... I watched the 2008 campaign. EVERY DAY! They used CLIPS from the 2008 campaign. How are you going to sit there and deny that this occurred? What, you're going to deny the Holocaust next?

I honestly don't fault Palin for becoming arrogant and entitled. She slowly began to realize that she was becoming a right wing star and eventually the catalyst of the entire campaign.
I'm willing to bet she knew halfway through the campaign that they were going to lose no matter what and decided to build herself up and enjoy the ride. McCain should've stuck with the Liberman pick and just let the chips fall where they fall.
