      In both my campaigns so far the only Cav i've really used are light cavalry in the early game and then Bow Cav in the late game just for breaking out that stinky cheese and chasing off units.

      Here they are great to obviously chase fleeing units, attack enemy archers and charge from rear to cause morale drop and mass route. Need some micro to run from all these spearman who try to catch them. It's not possible to field cavalry armies in this game, though when playing Takeda you can get away with slipping in an extra unit or two of cavalry to use the clan bonus. I used Yari cav quite often and it was nice, I guess Katana cav has more staying power to just keep hacking through enemy, but I don't want to stay with them in longer melee fight unless I know they will break their enemy soon.

    I really love how the Oda are the best (arguably) because it reflects history. True, Tokugawa Ieyasu ultimately united Japan, but Oda Nobunaga really did a lot of the early legwork. Plus he was so successful because he actually spammed ashigaru in real life. As a result his armies were larger and could cover way more ground. For balance sake the Otomo were given the gun advantages, but really Oda was the first to use them with any kind of efficacy.

      Well. The game only represented 1 part of the Oda strength right--powerful and plentiful Ashigarus: Nobunaga's absolute disdains of hereditary Samurai and other noble classes, so he literally made Samurai status and lordship earn able military ranks that any and all common foot soldiers can achieve if they have the metal. however, the biggest disappointment of this otherwise flawless game is that CA completely F'ed up the balance on Arquebus and cannon units by making them uselessly underpowered: Those guys were the main stays of the later half of the Sengoku Jidai for heaven's sake and revolutionized how Japanese wage wars. If they follow the history, the gunpowder and siege units aside from Mangonels should absolutely outclass bow units in battlefield outside of some specific circumstances such as battles immediately after rain. The gunpowder units should be treated simply as higher tier ranged units instead of occupying a separate category that requires them to be balanced against bow and arrows. By the time of Sekigahara, guns and cannons were generally preferred over bows and arrows unless the unit is mounted.

      CA hit a lot of right notes with STW2. Warhammer TW2 is pretty good, but CA got a lot more leeway to do crazy things due to the fantasy setting. CA's "normal" TW games had to be relatively grounded in history, and STW2 did it just right.

      That's a valid point. Tbh I always prefered the Barbarian Invasion campaign because it was shorter, more focused, and had more interesting asymmetry between the factions. Which is incidentally why I like Shogun 2 slightly less because of the sameyness of the factions. Both are great games though.

    for the ikko ikki it should be worth noting that inciting revolts with your monks creates small AI armies that can take a settlement for you without declaring war, and creating something like a distraction so your main force could flank around or set ambush.

      If you know how to properly use cavs yes bloodthirst is incredibly useful to takeda/any cav tactics. Try to attack/ambush whenever you can as you play takeda, best on rainy days with no hills. Weaken your enemy’s morale with monks. Try to steal a kill on their generals if there’s a chance. Avoid charging into spear walls head-on or prolong melee with spear infantries. Ashigarus are vulnerable to morale debuffs so a a charge from their back will do the deed. If you choose to play cavs your goal is to crush your enemy’s morale before killing them. Don’t panic when stupid AI ashigaru chase your cavs. Just take ’em for a good walk and they will submit as you smite down the rest.

    Tbh the Otomo is one of my go to clans and is my favorite personally. all of the provinces surrounding you’re starting area are all valuable. To the West you have trading ports and war horses and the rest are very wealthy and have fertile soil. if you can capture it all you will be set for the rest of most of the game however it’s hard to control provinces since you’re religion is Christianity and you will have a very hard to converting some of them so you will need to hire a lot of missionary’s. You’re main army should be set however because the main 2 clans that I personally think that you will have issues with is the Takeda and the Date from what I have seen in my playthroughs.

  • @sgg3586
    @sgg3586 6 лет назад +2

    Yari Ashigaru can (or at least used to) be able to beat Katana Samurai in a 1v1 if the unit is in it's Yari Wall formation and no Samurai are wrapping around the sides of the unit. Combine this with double stacking Ashigaru ontop of each other and you basically have Hopilites. The Oda on the other hand with Long Yari Ashigaru can actually hold castles and defensive lines into the late game compared to regular Ashigaru. Which is why when I used to play online against people, I would field a strong/cheap Yari Ashigaru core that was backed up by some bows and higher tier Cavalry.

  • @Vincrand
    @Vincrand 3 года назад +1

    Having a blacksmith in you hometown is a very big plus to me. The Hojo has cheaper castles, so it's easier to fit more military buildings. Furthermore they have a gold mine, 2 provinces, start near 2 schools and a lot of weak targets to the right. The Date have acces on 1 trade and don't have to worry about having to fight on multiple flanks. So I'd say that the Hojo is a very good pick and that is mainly due to location.

Nobunaga's father Nobuhide was often called the tiger of Owari....and Nobunaga who once was called the fool of owari later on became a fierce tactical and martial power .... A much better understanding of the Japanese warring estate era known as Sengoku jidai can be achieved by playing the game "Nobunaga's ambition" and its awesome and then there's a similar theme game concerning china ROTK- "Romance of the three kingdom" which is another gem

    I really agree with ikko ikki in my gameplay not on legendary but on hard i managed to conquer kyoto with their ashigaru and managed one of my best batlles in shogun 2
    But after 2 turns i lost kyoto because as you might expect most of my army was dead so i was attacked by 3500 army of shimazu i ahd something around 600 i lost this battle but i managed to kill 3000 soldiers of their army and after 3 turns my main army with warrior monks coquered kyoto once again

    Honestly my favorite clan is the uesugi as, they have bonuses to trade, are the best in the normal Buddhist religion, and the uesugi also have improvements to their warrior monks, and to me the uesugi bow warrior monks are one of the strongest units in the ranged category, also the melee warrior monks(can’t spell the spear name) have the war cry, combine that with the whistling arrows of the bow monks, you just utterly destroy your opponent’s moral. In addition echigo the home province is big enough to allow you time to prepare for an invasion, and it’s gives you a hard start which gives you a fun challenge.

    I Agree with most of your picks but I still think the Chosokabe should snag a spot on the top five, their location is well placed, their food production rate make them stable and their trade abilities give them a good treasury boost which enables you to recruit a relatively strong army at an early stage. Plus the game tutorial automatically starts with the Chosokabe...

    Of course they cannot withstand a full assault with everything the enemy haves, but they can at least kill a lot of their troops beofre falling (or give you some big heroic victories if you manage to kill all proyectiles)
    In economics, you can have a lot of armies spread in your territory and still win a lot of money

    I would have put Date on the list, the charge bonus is good early game when most armies are equally matched. You have access to a blacksmith to recruit better units on turn one. You can easily caputure the northern trade node. I consider the starting position for date very safe because you can ally with Hatakeyama on turn one and always keep your war-front moving west. You will almost never have to fight a war on two fronts (with proper naval protection).

    • @MrSmartDonkeyLP
      @MrSmartDonkeyLP  6 лет назад +1

      Their starting position is very slow, and they the No Dachi isn’t a strong enough singleplayer unit for me. I also generally don’t ally with people if I could just take their towns instead. For me the Date were close to making this list but not quite there.

    So because shogun 2 was free on steam and i never played a total war game before i tried it out. This is what i did. Short campaign, normal difficulty , start as Oda(because that was the one ive heared of first due to playing civ 5). If you can believe it i never recruited any sword units and only yari, bow and cav (didnt know siege existed). Because of that one mission to get the yari master i only did the combat part of the tech tree. It was going pretty well untill i triggered the shogun to attack me and therefore the rest of japan save my 2 allies(one of wich betrayed me later and the other i betrayed later). I did not prepare but lukily i had 10k moey at the time(i wanted to upgrade my castle or get the yari hero for when i unlocked it). But in the end it was all good managed to win at round 50 or 51. 10/10 would oda again.
