      Looking back, i think i had a mod that somehow gave my units the bonuses of special buildings (fletchers armorers, temples etc) even if they werent made in that specific province. So, Date was the first clan I used in my very first campaign and I have a story to tell. It all went well until I got to where the Uesugi/Takeda/Hojo start: once I captured those I wanted to capture the Honma island to the north for the gold, so I built a port in the Uesugi capital and moved my strongest army and general, the daimyo's brother, and another smaller army with no general on 2 ships and land them both safe. The next turn I attack the castle thinking I would surely win with an overwhelming army but when I look to the enemy army preview on the bottom right before the battle I see MY general's face backing up the enemy army and was like "WTF? How did this happen?". The bastard had betrayed me and I took a massive hit to my strenghy since I had no army anymore. This happened because I still didn't know how honour and loyalty worked being my first campaign, so it took a long time for me to build a new army,conquer the island and kill the traitor

      Another thing, if you're ever in a situation where your army isn't quite in range, but they'd be close enough to reinforce, just move out your general, they have more movement points than any other unit, especially in the late game. They'll make up the rest of the ground and the rest of your army will just reinforce and pop up right behind you on the battle map.

    Playing the Date Campaign and after 50 turns I've expanded down to Echigo and Fukushima. Have crushed the Mogami and with the combined effort of our clan and the Hojo have defeated the Uesugi. Now the Hojo have broken their alliance with me and are caught up in a 3-way war with the Takada and Ikko ikki, the latter which is now at war with me.
    For the Date, it's difficult to secure trade agreements with other clans for some reason. I've never been dishonorable and it was originally the Hojo who requested a military alliance with me but everyone finds my request for a trade agreement unacceptable, even though i have access to stone, iron and wood.
    The fact that the Date have that +2 charge bonus is why I have yet to loss a battle. Ikki ikko's Ashigaru stacks are no match for a Date charge from any of my units and despite being 2-3 times outnumbered, the enemies thankfully don't bunch up and allow me to defeat them in detail with my smaller force before retreating back to the safety of a setttlement.
    Having to only deal with one front is immensly huge for the Date which allows me to build markets and gambling halls back at Iwate while my settlements closest to the other clans are filled wirh training dojos. Despite having no trade, my economy is gradually building with every art branch I unlock and so long as I don't overspend on my army. I am currently fielding one professional army that consists of mainly no-dachi, bow sam and a couple yari and cavalry units for supports and chasing down archers. All in all, a great campaign so far.

      Iwate as a whole was divided between many minor northern clans and the Date actually held control over a significant portion of it although they were by no means larger or more powerful than their neighbours. I think CA gave the Date Al of Iwate because if they made it historically accurate it would have:
      1. Been a complete mess
      2. Taken a long time to invade and occupy all of the north itself
      So historical accuracy isn't really there but what can you do

    Im just finishing my legendary campaign with them and I have 5 bulletproof samurai!
    What happened was that I had the 4 you can recruit normally and then I made a vassal and you know that one military unit they give you? Well, usually they give you a measly yari ashigaru, but this time I got my fifth date bulletproof samurai unit! Maybe because that settlement had the second largest type of castle. Every campaign I seem to learn something new about the game :)

    One thing that’s pretty satisfying to do is to set up a defensive army with mainly monk archers. Have Naginata samurai on the front lines, and Nodachi’s in the back along with maybe a few monks and/or cavalry. Let the enemy come hit your wall of Naginatas after being peppered by arrows, and then have them be insta broken by a Nodachi charge and Monk warcry. After that, just destroy all the other archers and other units the enemy have. They’re break quick. It’s basically the ultimate counter attack setup.

    Honestly I feel like the best strategy with this clan is
    6 yari cav
    4 bulletproof samurai
    4 naginata warrior monks
    And fill the rest with no-dachi samurai, maybe only get 2 monks so that you can field 7 no-dachis
    Spread out the bulletproof samurai in front of the main infantry line and have them tank the arrows so you don’t have to worry about your no-dachi samurai being shredded before they even make it to charge. Slightly before you reach the enemy lines pull the bulletproof samurai back and let your no-dachi line charge, while pulling the bulletproofs to the side to act as anti-cav, if enemy cavalry threaten your line before they get there go ahead and use rapid advance
    I’ve found this strategy to be pretty good against the takeda since even if your infantry win I’ve found their superior cav fights win the day more often than not.

    So, pro tip, AI loves horses, get horses.
    However, as Date, the nearest options are Kai and the trade node near Hoki. So you will probably have to war your way to horses.

    My first clan and I won campaign with Date. Charge bonus allowed me to kill generals easily with light cavalry. Massive land provides money and food. No enemy in the north means my battle direction is linear, all way to south. And one of the craziest thing I ever done in all Total war games is that first battle I fought against the Oda who were stronger than me at the time, that one battle both sides had 2 armies of 20 and 1 army of 10. It was a mess, Total bloodbath. I won the battle with heavy casualties plus death of brother, but I did NOT lose a single non general unit. That one battle I killed Oda's entire elite armies and generals. I easily crushed Oda after that battle. I felt the power of the Date. Oda invaded me with their elite troops but they got nothing but death.

    One of the best campaigns I ever had in Shogun 2. I lost Harumune early in the game while fighting Takeda Shingen. Falling into regency was hard as most of my generals had dubious loyalty. It was a slugfest all throughout; against the Takeda, the Ikko-Ikki Shogunate and the Otomo. It was fun to use 6-7 Nodachi as your main battle line.

That's why I also get damage upgrades at capital and no dachi just melt everything they charge into. You can attack Ugo immediately or after one round where u produce the most of the soldiers that take only one round. After that you march forward and there are two cities that are only one move away from each other. There you garrison one half of a full army in each which will reduce uprising possibilities and it costs less to have only half an army in each city instead of a full one because whenever there is an attack...you can just move the troop from one city to the other to have a full army for defence. After that expansion is easy. I love Date, you can go apeshit with them and do some massive wrecking.

    SO waht determines when your sons 'come of age'? Date here has an 18 year old who is not of age, but in my Shimazu campaign, my damn sons come of age and are Generals as young as 13 and 14.
    Other things ive long wondered about this game. Do your units suffer massively when you order an attack while they are all moving, say through a castle gate and are not formed up yet, but in order to prevent them being attacked in the flank by defending castle units, you order an attack, meeting the full unit with a straggling in unit? Alot of little things like that ive never known about this game, but ive always wondered about.

    May I ask which one's better for the Date campaign, melee attack or armour? during your shimazu campaign you upgraded their armour, however date have iron from the get go and you'll get superior melee attack in no time. But still, date no-dachi have only 2 armor. Although I always play "defense" and once the AI army got close Ill "banzai" charge them head on so their bows not gonna have much time to attack, but still I gotta ask. Thank You!

    • @MrSmartDonkeyLP
      @MrSmartDonkeyLP  5 лет назад +1

      For me it depends on the army composition rather than the clan you're playing. If you're using a lot of No-Dachi Melee Attack is probably the way to, go but if you use them defensively they might take a few more arrow volleys in which case the increased armour is better. Could always do a bit of both, upgrade the blacksmith to either armour or melee attack and then increase the encampment to the opposite.

      Watch little youtube documentaries from "Historia civilis",he covers formations in his videos about battles. Watch the ones on Greek and Roman battles. He'll teach you how to use spear walls,cavalry,and sword infantry. All warfare is pretty basic when simplified and broken down.

    • @promnightdumpsterbaby9553
      @promnightdumpsterbaby9553 2 года назад

      I generally use Ashigaru spear walls as my center,with 5 or 6 bow units to harass, and 4 units of sword samurai protecting my flanks. Most of the time i don't even need cavalry,but they are nics to take out the enemy bowmen and chase down routing troops.

    That all-melee roster looks interesting, but how do you fight siege battles with it?

    • @MrSmartDonkeyLP
      @MrSmartDonkeyLP  7 лет назад +3

      You don't, but you should never fight offensive sieges anyway, this is my #1 tip for anyone ever. DO NOT fight offensive sieges, just siege out the enemy, not only does it mean you're not fighting a really annoying battle where you lose far more men than needed, but also the enemy takes attrition, and you get to fight a defensive field battle, which is the best type of battle.

    • @veratrindye7292
      @veratrindye7292 7 лет назад

      Mmm, and siege defences?

    • @MrSmartDonkeyLP
      @MrSmartDonkeyLP  7 лет назад +1

      They're not really an issue, you can generally just sit inside, quickly kill the enemies infantry off and go outside to kill the archers, or have your cavalry do that. You could even sally out immediately during battle once you know where the enemy is coming from, and just charge them.

    Does Date's focusing on charge stats enhancement and Nodachi make defensive castles worthless to them since the space inside of castle compound is too small for Nodachi to do full charges and the long and drawn out castle melee brawls are also bane to Nodachi unit? In addition, for the same reason mentioned here, I'm guessing Date is even worse if not the worst faction when it comes to offensive sieges. Personally I think the terrible siege performance might make Date a niche and below average playable main faction.

    can a buddhist clan recruit nanban trade ships from a captured nanban quarter?

    • @Galivardeu
      @Galivardeu 8 лет назад +2

      No. Your clan must be christian. Same applies the other way of course, you can't get warrior monks from a buddhist temple as christian.

    • @prasannajanakiraman5832
      @prasannajanakiraman5832 8 лет назад
