Aaron You definitely took it literally. You answered it with a ridiculous spiel on how it's really not believing in something you can't see, because wind is observable in other ways. That's the equivalent of responding to the line right before it ("...and if your heart beats right out of chest, let it swim upstream.") with something like: "Did you know that hearts are human organs that can't actually swim or do anything when detached from the human body?" Anyway, if you listen to it in context (which is what you're supposed to do, because no line in the poem means anything on its own), then the meaning is pretty clear. It's about believing in yourself and chasing your ambitions, even when it becomes difficult, or even a little scary. Just listen to the context again, it's not a particularly difficult poem to decipher.
The first time I watched this was not long after it came out. I still come back to it a couple times every year, every time I need some inspiration, wise words, or a little pick me up. Watsky’s words ring in my bones and have helped to shape me into who I am today, and he continues to inspire me all of the time. Thank you for this.
This makes me tear up every time I see it. It makes me glad to be human and afraid. Thank you George Watsky for standing on your fears and telling the world what you think every time you perform.
You know that feeling you get when you see someone speak and act so epicly, that it makes you want to be someone better than you currently are? 'Cos I do now. Thank you, Watsky.
I`m at a really big crossroad in my life right now, your material is really helping me out, your speeches and many of your songs are really motvating. nothing like moral of the story for jogging at 6 am to clear the head.
"Scared is just cared with a lisp." I really appreciate how inspiring your lines are, Watsky. Not "the world is yours" cheesy prep talk, something that feels honest.
The beauty of this is that you aren't alone. We probably don't even live in the same country, or speak the same language in our daily life, but our thoughts around this subject is still alike. If we spread this message to our friends, family and children, we could either create that generation or be it. Make it be inevitable.
This may be a 7min video, but I watched it 4 times in a row eloquently flowing, a speech meant to be seen, for I am afraid, and after seeing this I was all pumped up in a rage...to be all I can be, ready for anything...thank you for this..The Great George Watsky!!
i couldn't stop watching till it ended, and i thought i had no time.. but then i rewinded to watch him crowd surf again.. and took the time to comment.
Make video. Upload. I'll be glued to every one. Genius. Not all of us are lucky enough to be good at what we'd love to do for a living. GG Watsky. Keep 'em coming.
I find myself not knowing what I just saw, what I just heard and how it relates to me, to my world, to the world, but still it got to me on a level I cannot explain, with a punch that I still feel.
Dude, i wish i could have been there to help hold you up. That was such a great moment and i wasn't even there but i could feel it man. Congratulations my friend. Your comprehension on conquering fears is somthing everyone should have. Thanks for this George!
Something I’ve never truly appreciated about this is the amount of trust it took on his part. A crowd at a poetry event is more prepared for a stage dive. I mean damn 🤯
Im here again. many years removed from a poem that i LOVE. in my PERSONAL top five, boxing "Button Poetry" stars daily. To just really praise Watsky. I met him at a show on his Cardboard Castles Tour. He dealt with me buying him a drink theres no way he coulda drank after EVERYONE else beat me to the punch... But he signed the first dollar bill wrong and then signed a second. Gave me the clear false hope of "ill listen for your name" when i told him i was trying to break into music. (i think he could tell i never would but god bless his sweet lie!) like this poem? its a thing ill always look back on and remember fondly.
A rare look into a new upcoming brilliant mind... This video leaves inspiration to us who have fallen into the rut of society and placed our dreams on the back burner. I love it!
I love your work. Your words are amazing, inspiring and they tell a story. They are fun and creative. Please never stop what you do and one day I hope I can meet you.
Basically in one of his old poems he said "did somebody say swag?" and the whole audience would yell swag. This poem and the stage dive represent him leaving that part of his life behind, and the breeze is kind of metaphorically taking those words away from him.
Goddamn it George, I cannot tell you how often you have brought a lump to my throat. Stunning to the point of a life-long loyalty or the love and the joy in a favourite author or actress. It's good practice to flash easy skills on the mattress but where I've got less, you got this and as I speechlessly reach for the 'favourite' icon, it occurs to me how much better you said it than I can.
Brother Watsky, I've said it before. And I'll say it a hundred thousand million times more That You, my good and honorable sir, Are a freight train of inspiration. Thank You. ~R. Jeremy Howard
Only Watsky is awesome enough to crowd surf in a teen poetry slam.
There is no one else that could end a poem with a crowd dive. Watsky is the best.
"I know that 7-minute poems are not prime youtube material"
These ~7 minute poems are pretty much the only thing I watch on youtube
Imagine following that
"Anyone who's ever felt a breeze believes in what they cannot see" wow
Aaron Dude. It's a metaphor. I feel like maybe poetry isn't your thing if you take everything literally.
Aaron You definitely took it literally. You answered it with a ridiculous spiel on how it's really not believing in something you can't see, because wind is observable in other ways. That's the equivalent of responding to the line right before it ("...and if your heart beats right out of chest, let it swim upstream.") with something like: "Did you know that hearts are human organs that can't actually swim or do anything when detached from the human body?"

Only George Watsky could go crowd surfing at a poetry reading.
He did when he gave this speech once.
He needs an award for this..
Watching this as a 15 year old is kinda inspiring.
TheFreakingWhaleRebellion 14 so close enough
This makes me tear up every time I see it. It makes me glad to be human and afraid. Thank you George Watsky for standing on your fears and telling the world what you think every time you perform.
Scared is just cared with a lisp.
And here we are, years later, the wind still beneath his wings.
Years later and I’m still obsessed. Going to his concert in April. He’s preforming his spoken word.
that moment when Watsky starts crowd-surfing to your favorite song
I'm going to write this speech down and perform it as a monologue in my theatre class. Wish me luck! The power of Watsky compels me...
I actually watched this whole thing 0.0
And it was pretty darn good
Tyler Frost Sure am, RUclips tough guy.
You know that feeling you get when you see someone speak and act so epicly, that it makes you want to be someone better than you currently are? 'Cos I do now. Thank you, Watsky.
LEGENDARY!!
I`m at a really big crossroad in my life right now, your material is really helping me out, your speeches and many of your songs are really motvating. nothing like moral of the story for jogging at 6 am to clear the head.
Look how tiny he is I'm in love
I watch this every couple of months when I'm feeling particularly unproductive. Watsky, you are my infinite well of inspiration. Thank you.
"Scared is just cared with a lisp."
I really appreciate how inspiring your lines are, Watsky. Not "the world is yours" cheesy prep talk, something that feels honest.
I can't stop watching this. He not only lives his life how I hope I can too, but he also is the poet I hope I will be.
well hes not afraid to stage dive anymore.. ask the guy he landed on.
The beauty of this is that you aren't alone. We probably don't even live in the same country, or speak the same language in our daily life, but our thoughts around this subject is still alike. "so is stage diving"
Watsky would know all about that! hahah
This may be a 7min video, but I watched it 4 times in a row
eloquently flowing, a speech meant to be seen, for I am afraid, and after seeing this I was all pumped up in a rage...to be all I can be, ready for anything...thank you for this..The Great George Watsky!!
When you're stage diving at a poetry reading, you're doing something right.
THIS IS THE BEST THING IVE EVER SEEN AND FATLIP PLAYING AT THE END HE LOOKED SO HAPPY
Watsky is the man.
I've never listened to poetry on youtube in my life, i've watched about 5 of your poetry videos today and im feeling inspired. thank you george.
That was absolutely FUCKING amazing!
i couldn't stop watching till it ended, and i thought i had no time.. but then i rewinded to watch him crowd surf again.. and took the time to comment.
I cried.
That made me really happy... and gave me the motivation I need to finally ask this girl out.
That crowd surf though XD
That was one of the greatest things I've ever seen... So glad I discovered Watsky.
Lmao the video I just seen before this one of him jumping recently is starting to make sense
That was seriously touching. I've been watching your stuff for about an hour today and I love that you manage to stay so real with it all.
So epic
This is pure unadulterated inspiration wrapped in a bundle of awesome watsky goodness.
Make video. Upload. I'll be glued to every one. Genius. Not all of us are lucky enough to be good at what we'd love to do for a living. GG Watsky. Keep 'em coming.
***** I just want to say that I understand what you must have felt during the high dive incident, and I know it's not my place but, I forgive you
I find myself not knowing what I just saw, what I just heard and how it relates to me, to my world, to the world, but still it got to me on a level I cannot explain, with a punch that I still feel.
Belly flop carefully ...
There's an oxymoron for you.
So is the controlled pop punk chaos. But that's how sum 41 shows are
i've been putting this one off for a while now...so worth it
LOVE. Watsky never ceases to amaze me.
Dude, i wish i could have been there to help hold you up. That was such a great moment and i wasn't even there but i could feel it man. Congratulations my friend. Your comprehension on conquering fears is somthing everyone should have. Thanks for this George!
I've watched this like 10 times now and i'm pumped after every time. A true genius, ily Watsky.
wow, that stage dive at the end was probably the best way to end this poem! absolutely love this guy!
Thank you for being my inspiration. I love the rappin' Watsky and the poetry slammin' Watsky and the lispin' Watsky all the same.
I barely can describe how talented you are, and how much your art helps me.
I really felt it! Thank you.
This is honestly my favorite video on all of RUclips. I WEPT the first time I watched it.
Much love.
Something I’ve never truly appreciated about this is the amount of trust it took on his part. A crowd at a poetry event is more prepared for a stage dive. I mean damn 🤯
easily one of the best speeches I've heard.
His words are so powerful. They actually have meaning.

This is the only video on youtube that gets me seriously amped. Love it.
One of the best parts of the whole of vidcon was watching him perform this piece. So good!
I have liked and favorited every single video of his I have seen so far. This kid is awesome.
Watsky. You're one of my idols. This poem inspired me to become a comedian! you're a beast!
THAT SMILE FROM THE DJ WAS SO PURE RIGHT BEFORE HE JUMPED
Amazing, this guy is talented beyond belief. Watsky make sure you post up if you ever go to the UK.
Spectacular, unique and as always..GOLD! Watsky is full of AWESOME!
The single greatest thing I've ever seen in my life.
Manly tears have been shed.
Only guy I've ever seen finish a poem with a stage dive. Bravo.
This guy is amazing. Honestly, this inspired me. I wish he'd come to my college!
I never knew I could appreciate a poem this much!
I love when you put these poems on youtube.

Watsky, you are a talented poet and I'm sorry that you are doing this in an age where people don't appreciate poems anymore.
Yeah you see all those people there not appreciating his poetry?
... no.
I am 27 and this poem made me SMILE!
Absolutely fantastic, Mr. Watsky! Go big indeed,
