- Not The Footage I Was Hoping To Record It’s Never Good Seeing A Brilliant Loco Having Problems. It Sounded Very Unusual On The Outward To Preston And Was Stuck At LAncaster For A While On The Return. Eventually it got moving again before running into trouble again around hest bank before crawling into carnforth. All Good Now Tho As 403 Was Back Out A Few Days Later
LONG LIVE THE 37s
Amazing engines, beutiful design. Every single vehicle needs attention occasionally, but its a tough old boot when despite its injuries it still does the job!
Being 59 years old the design hasn't done bad
Class 37 fan 👍 that and the 43 hst!
And now we dont even make locos in the UK. RIP English Electric.
She's at Bo'ness now. They have just put in a new power unit. Should keep her going for a while now.
Very well filmed despite the strong sunlight. A nice overview of the events.
Cheers - Allan.
Great job on this train video. Joe
I was stuck on that train for 2 hours at carnforth right in front of the station but we couldn’t move into the station. It was probably the funniest thing that has ever happened to me on a train. It was boiling hot in the coaches because there was no AC and there was no free water or anything. Thanks northern 👏🏻.
Ned’s Trains lmao
My hometown! I remember trains passing our house on Vicarage Lane on their way from Castle Station to Morecambe and Heysham in the 1040/50s...............didn't have a camera " back then"
Back in the 1040's I'm not sure if they had invented coal or water. I think the planet existed but not the wheel.
What's a camera?
I know my fingers are a little too old for this keyboard; sorry. Mike 80 in July.
Looks like a problem with the compressor. I think steam coming from the nose end ventilation grilles isn't a good sign ...
Nah, just the kettle.
The train looks dashing, authoritative
Brilliant capture! Shame that 403 failed, not a very good sign for the future of the 37s there. Hopefully things will get better.
Deltics used to bring 40 or 50 wagons into Shildon Shops for repair when I was a kid in 70,s, wonderful noise, which I never forget
Are you sure about that? Deltics were express passenger locomotives; seems very unlikely that they'd use one for hauling wagons for repair.
Absolute rubbish
Do you mean Class 37 ? They look like Deltics but are entirely different.
Wanker comment.
Isle of Mull is still going strong. Saw her in Doncaster station a few days ago
I don’t know anything about trains but that one was awesome,I love the old ones.
Yes. Isolate the compressor, make sure its not on fire and carry on using the other on. With only 4 carriages still plenty of air
Shes in limp mode just like my Duramax right now.
I haven’t seen many passenger trains being propelled, and I’ve worked for the S&T nearly 30 years. Fantastic video mate. 👍❤️
Push-pull operation was in use between Glasgow and Edinburgh for many years using Class 47s. There was a nasty accident at Polmont in 1984 when a train with the engine propelling derailed after hitting a cow and 13 people died.
I remember now. That accident put an end to passenger propelled trains. Thanks! 👍
@@alexsteel5959 No it didn't. The Edinburgh-Glasgow services were push/pull class 47s until at least the early 1990s. Class 86/87/90+DVT combinations were in use on the WCML until 2006 and the London-Norwich line until this year, and class 91+DVT is still on use on the ECML.
Oh, and class 73s operated push/pull on the Gatwick Express Services until 2005.
Dave Barclay That’s what I didn’t like about the APT - having a relatively light leading vehicle. Although not much different to the multiple units that have become the norm nowadays.
Obviously this engine was hot 3:19 but I wonder if they would start easier when cold if the engine speed governor was overridden for start up so that the engine wasn’t flooded with so much Diesel while turning her over trying to start.
What a great design. Love the 37 look.
Especially in that livery. Possibly the best looking combination ever seen on Britain's railways.
Wow! 88001 as well! Shame it's struggling. Heat may have been to blame
It was only a little over 20 that day. Last summer we got over 30 a lot so if they're failing in this heat that's not a good sign
My home town! I was born in the house next to the line down to Green Ayre in 1943! Didn't have a camera until 1955; if only!
You certainly made up for lost time😃
Thanks for the memories. When I lived in Lancaster, in the 1950/60s, the line ran down to Green Ayre on the right at 6.28 and to the left down to Glasson Dock and the Quay Side
me too
I rode behind her on the North Yorkshire moors railway not so long ago
Lovely loco
My word a class 37 still running. I so wish I'd kept my Ian Allan books, saw them 40 years ago and assumed they were all dead until YT recommended I watch this video (how did it know :-))
37’s still run up here now and again pulling ballast trains on the west highland line and Oban branch
Pure coincidence but I happened to be in Norwich station today, not my local station, and there in the sidings were two class 37s parked up. I was stunned, I haven't seen one for 40 years, I watch a YT video about them and there they are in the flesh, weird.
lol.....Yep.They've even outlived the Deltics, The 40s. The 50s etc ....in fact they've nearly outlived the lot AND they're still on mainline service !!! INCREDIBLE machines.
Shame that most of the 37's that were loaned to france to work on building the tgv were then scrapped, many after several years in storage.
Guy Dutton There’re very easy on the track and so have good route availability. Incidental that there’re so charismatic.
They are sublime & great video squire 👍👏
Looks like the flux capacitor playing up - common issue with the 37’s 😳
Might be where they belong?
Yep that's what I was thinking too😁
cross-drain resistor overheating-pour coke over it,wait 2 mins. and proceed as usual.
I think this was the day I saw it crawling into the loop at Carnforth as I were coming back from Barrow
great right around the curve
Beautiful 😍 🤩
Nice video; you should draw attention to the engine start @ 3.19.
One of the best engine starts on RUclips!
Nice shots 👍
What was wrong with it I saw smoke coming out of rear nose of the 37??? Isn't that where the traction blowers are??
I think there’s a compressor and some air reservoir tanks in there too.
Amazing engines beautiful design.
Lovely Lancaster my home town
Will visit one day from down south east London
Sorry 1940s not 1040...............I'm not that old
Mike Wilcock haha yeah we get out fair share of these fine locos in Lancaster it's great
I've learnt something today; thanks...............Mike now 75 and still making rail videos, see my latest from Crewe soon
They look really great. But they seem to be more difficult to keep alife than the NOHAB MY, their even older Scandinavian/American contemporaries. Those EMD engines seem to be easier to maintain.
Fantastic video, can see by the comments that the PC mafia is about, enjoy it boring toads
Thanks pal
Rent free in the heads of weirdos
It looks and sounds like a fire supression bottle wemt off in one of the snouts. Nothing serious.
2:40 when you see the no smoking sign lol
Noice you need more subs
Where do they go now for repair etc. ? Doncaster, Crewe, Derby, have we got any such capacity left ?
Carlisle Kingmoor.
Such a shame to see a stunning locomotive in the situation probably the best caused it
Class43hst ChannelUk agreed all is good now tho 403 was back out on the Preston run yesterday morning
Great video
Should have been taken off service there and then after the problem started. Looked like over heating which could of caused a fire
‘Which could HAVE caused’ - could OF’ is not English grammar.
@@christinebaker8754 Well said!!!!
No one says what the problem was. They probably just isolated the ancillary machine in the nose that was giving trouble.
I think they need two in front if they're going to keep them in that state.
Always used three hauling iron ore to Llanwern steel works.
Nope as slippery says below it was driven down to Preston with the handbrake on
Great sound proper British power
Are these Tractor Diagrams over as of 3rd September 2019. Please
Yeah finished back in January unfortunately.
Driver left handbrake on
slipperyrails yep that's what I heard it was too
Does anyone know if the Lady Diana Spencer locomotive is still in operation and what class it was?
I think it was 47712..I know it caught fire in the 90's and was at Doncaster for a while.
Great video and channel. I subscribe !
Love the large BR logo look on the 37s. Wish they'd put it on the 55s as well.
This is what happens with privatisation, they won't spend money keeping them properly maintained !
strake750 but they do though
Did it make it to Barrow?
@@ajaxman046 nope ran into trouble again at hest bank before crawling to carnforth we’re it was dumped for a few days before being rescued if I remember rightly
The Isle of mull run at one time a lot other west high land line note the dog 🐕 symbol
Good video👍just subscribed.
Awesome video mate. Especially when it cranks over fires and blows out about o clag. Nice.
Check out my leaf blowers video standing start. It's quite a catch ...
When the locomotive is at the rear is it controlled from the cab at the front?
Yep, that's a dbso at the front
@@TheTomco11 Is that similar to a DVT?
@@ronnieg6358 yes, exactly the same principles
I think the quality is fine
I'm surprised that a lot more 37's haven't died like this considering they are 30,40 years old now... Especially on a timetabled weekly service...
Nice vid too :) Glad to see her going eventually...
Just looked at wikipiedia and the firsat BR order for 37/0's was in 1959.... So that's 59 years old this year....
First in service was dec 1960, last nov 1965, so thats between 53 and 58 years ago now, a respectable age for any loco still in mainline service.
I'd like to know just how much mileage the ones in use today have done over the years....
Dont get me wrong I love diesels... but why the hell you still have non eletrified lines in the UK in 2020 ?
Some places are too costly I guess, also something to do with the preservation of beauty and wildlife maybe.
Um... that is an electrified line. You can see the cables. Electrification is very expensive and it's just not worth it for smaller lines that might only have a train every couple of hours.
Cos we don't want shitty electric trains... So fuck off
Note the overhead catenary
Is there anywhere i can find out when and where all these special loco hauled trains are going to be? Would love to know when they are going to be passing near me to be able to see them. I miss seeing the old proper loco's .
ReZiN8R www.railtourinfo.co.uk/locohauled17.html the diagrams are there buddy
Doesnt look in good helth
Very nice keep it up
You're welcome
the train that the 37 is pulling, it doesn't have it's own engine(s)?
jason long no it’s mark 2 former passenger loco hauled stock with a driving van trailer cab with controls converted from a standard coach at other end so the driver can drive either end without the loco having to change ends in order to change direction of travel.
Haha
🚂👍
I believe the loco might be wheel slipping abit mate the way it keeps applying power and easing off again mate
No it's a diesel electric it's how it works
Looks like a traction motor blower fault
Wrong side. It's a compressor issue. Air also sounds like it's pouring out of that area.
It's leaking air
Nicely filmed of a struggling 403 the 37's are becoming a bit of a problem.
Any loco can fail , it all depends on how well DRS maintain them which I have heard is not as well as they use to , as they do not want to spend the money on them as the management has changed at DRS.
with you all the way.
Why couldn't they put a 67 on or a 68
the 68's nor 67's work with the DBSO
I used to work the Edinburgh & Glasgow QSts Push Pulls.47/7s can work with DBSOs.
Wats wrong with a 37 definetly prefer 37 than shitty 67 or 68
Time to put this old smoky diesels on museum. Go for more invirimental friendly technology
*Environmental*
I agree. They should be powered by butterfly wings and fairy dust.
Coltnz1 and don’t forget a good measure of unicorn piss 🤣
