WE APPRECIATE YOU 🙏
So u stopped her from giving us more greatness at the end of love on top....i wanna fight.
Period..!!!!! 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃 I feel sick knowing this now
Agreeeeed!! 🤣👊🏾
@@Hoo_huusame😭😭😭 we could have heard Mariah-type whistle notes😭😭😭
She could’ve given three more choruses but y’all told her to chill. I’m upset!
I’d give everything to hear some vocal stems from Love On Top lol. Thanks for the amazing story, you did an incredible job
I’d love to share them one of these days. What she does is incredible. I’ll do some permission digging and see where I get :)
@@djswivel That would be the best Christmas gift! Looking forward to it!
@@djswivel please do, us stans would very much love and appreciate it. Amazing job on the song btw 👏
@@djswivel thank you 🙏
Yes please. Hearing this live would be phenomenal.
HOW DARE YOU STOPPED HER 🤣🤣🤣🤣 you should of let her be
Leak the 120 vocal song 🤪
Imagine telling her you’ll delete it and never do:
@@Justice4ver4BreonnaTaylorlol
We need it lol
Have been waiting years for this story, since you did that interview about the I care recording process (with those amazing vocal stems I still thank you for). Also thanks for confirming she recorded a sixth full voice chorus, I just knew it, always felt sure about it. "Love On Top" is my favourite Beyoncé song, a timeless classic and you had the privilege to work on her best album, 4. She was really experimenting back then.
Ah wow, glad the wait is over!
Hey there workitout80, Do you still have those stems or do you know if there is a way to obtain those still? Would love to practice mixing on them!
@@JamesStMichael Dj Swivel never released the stems, he played them during an interview years ago. there was (is?) a video of that interview on RUclips.
@@workitout80 Thank you for your reply. Do you happen to have a link? I havn't been able to find that interview.

WTF A SONG CALLED “LIFE” and a 6TH OCTAVE 😱😱😱
Probably “Schoolin’ Life”
@@ashrick718 no because he said it was Scrapped
@@mood4eva98he said he thinks it was scrapped
Listen sir dont ever stop BEYONCE if she wants to sing higher let BEYONCE sing high sir 🤣🤣🥰
First of all, thank you for posting this. The modulations of Love On Top speaks for themselves as far as their greatness. I think another interesting about this story is about what a person who has a great voice, and a high understanding of music theory can do. She has a wide connected vocal range and she knows how to use it and it's not just for show. There's a purpose for how and why she emphasizes dynamics wrt her harmonic arrangements and her placements make sense when we listen to her songs beyond them being "bops." As many said, 4 was an amazing album and she's been a part of many more since. I want to thank you most of all for being a part of it because y'all create wonderful things that I love listening to from the day I first heard it.
Thanks for the thoughtful comment. Bey really is one of the greatest of all time. A generational talent. Learned more than I can describe from her.
Omg does bey really come up with all her harmony concept?? Like in my head I feel Beyonce ear is spot on.. She knows her cords and keys.. Is this true about her??
She definitely comes up with her own harmonies and has her own style in how she layers them. A songwriter might give her some ideas to build around, but she almost always does her own unique thing. I suspect she doesn't know the name's of chords or keys she hears. At least she never displayed that understanding of music theory to me. But she absolutely does hear it! When you're a musician, you know immediately what notes are in key and what isn't, even if you don't know the names of them.
@@djswivel wow thanks for the response... I figured this about her... Last question people say she's so sweet and down to earth is this really true about her??
@Elegant Oprah girl stfu
@@dominiquemoore2367I mean her interviews give off that energy
So she hit whistle notes😱😱😱😱😱😱??? @djswivel cause if she was able to go up to 9 key changes that would make her the best ever
Ik😭😭
Great story, what a piece of history for people who appreciate Beyoncé's voice and music. Many people would kill for the extra choruses...is it something that you have ? Just like the vocals of I Care?
The vault is incredible!!!! But of course I do not have those...they are property of the label :)
I love how you break it down. For those of us that are fans and knowing how the process goes, this one's so good.
Allow me, on behalf of the Beyhive, to also share an advice to you.... Next time you work with Beyonce, don't stop the bitch! We want those additional vocals!
😂😂😂
ahahaha Lima, ok, noted!
I low key mad asfuck How dare you questioned her WHY.
Who else went right back to listen to love on top.. right after this video... song hits differently now.. knowing the amount of work and energy put into it.
They pitch up vocals in Gospel music. This is nothing new lol you should expand past the norms of the music industry. That song was very gospel inspired Beyoncé grew up in church so I’m sure that’s where she got that concept from. It’s a way of showing off how high you can go
You drop "everything" because that's BEYONCE KNOWLES-CARTER!!!! love thia storyyy this a bop in Philippines 🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝
She's obviously a genius! A very talented woman and I'm a huge fan, but she's not flawless and I see that in her expecting other people to work that type of schedule, that amount of hours, all without a break and sleep. That's just so wrong.
I hear you, but I've never viewed it that way. Working for an artist like Bey is a privilege, and many people would kill for that gig. And when you're at that level, you don't want your staff holding you back. So artists look for people who are willing to give them everything just so they can continue with their pace. I never once looked at that as a negatively, I genuinely felt lucky to be there and tried each and every day to live up to the very high expectations, and do my job with pride.
Beyoncé is such a beast. This is amazing!
I’m glad to hear you learn something from Bey. A very good story to tell. Thanks for sharing with us. I think that this story illustrates why she is a Legend and she deserves to have her place in music history.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I thank you for help bringing us thr BOP that's Love On Top but I might also beat you when I find you omg jk
Lol chileee I know he ain’t never been in nobody’s black church.. modulations are VERY common in the gospel world…. Nothing new
Hey Ray! You're totally right that modulations are super common in gospel, guess when I was reminiscing on that story it kinda slipped my mind and I mistakenly generalized to pop and radio music!
My favorite Beyoncé song!
Incredible!
120 vocals in a stack!
That’s crazy!🤣🤣🤣
I just found your channel this week and I’m so excited I did, so many gems on here!
Keep it going man!👊🏾

@@djswivel Signed up already!!
Thanks David, appreciate your support my man!
church choirs change the keys a half step all of the time. maybe she got inspiration from that? Amazing story man!
thanks prizzy! ya, totally, when i mentioned it was rare, i was really contextualizing it in pop music! the church is everything!
I've just come across your channel... I watched your video talking about "I care" some years ago and I would like to thank u for sharing professional backstage details... being an independent artist myself it's really interesting to see how the artists that inspire me actually work... Usually we get misled by the idea that great artists are aliens or whatever lol but when I see things like this it's clear to me that's all about hard work, connecting with the right team, respecting the process and trying... I'll be watching each and every video of yours... thank u once again ❤❤❤❤❤❤
much love from Brazil 🇧🇷
I'm glad that's what you took from it because that's absolutely true. Nobody is just "great" for no reason. Nobody is born great. Everyone who achieves any major level of success (in anything, not just music), worked very hard, I promise you that.
So this explains why he was able to show Beyoncé’s hidden I Care vocals, I was like “did he record it?”
Thanks Swivel for putting these videos out really enjoying them, I really value what you say.
I have a production question about something I’m struggling with.
Coming from a production standpoint how do you decide what to have centered in the mix? I’ve noticed if you have chords or a pad it can sound too consistent if they are sustained notes. Making the mix not feel as open.
I’m thinking it might be a balance problem. Here are a couple things that come to mind that might fix it but I’d love to know your approach and opinion on this.
-lack of stereo information/higher frequencies for balance
-a simple EQ/level adjustment might fix it
-adding movement to the sound or maybe a different sound would work better for the idea
-thanks for reading
I typically keep the main drums (kick/snare/claps/some hi hats), bass, and lead vocals in the center. Everything else should at varying degrees be placed in the stereo field. Some pads can be nice and wide. Some lead instruments might just be panned a small amount.
@@djswivel Man, this is so cool! thanks for the advice also such a fascinating story, I love the video.
Always wondered about that last chorus. It’s my fave part of the song and yes black churches do it all the time with praise gospel songs. It’s such a beautiful climax and it fades…she doesn’t end it.
id give my left arm to hear those 120 layers of harmony she did you have to do something about it i mean if Rodney jerkins played unreleased Michael Jackson(!!!!) snippets on ig live you probably could sneak us a peak as well ;)
What an amazing story again 😍 you're so talented!
I wish in could hear music like you can.. i. Mean i know it sounds good, but i can't hear those differences he was talking about
More Beyoncé videos please.
We need it
🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽 #inspiring
because she's a fucking boss!!!
Great Work! As always. If you don't mind me asking, since you are aware of the roof of her "full voice", how low can she go and what is the peak of her falsetto?
*This has been bugging the Hive for years now ☠️
We didn’t quite test the boundaries. I suspect at least a few keys above the height note in love on top.
@@djswivel Mmmm that's interesting considering that recently, she's used a G2 in *OTHERSIDE* . She really does have an inhuman wide range, damn.
@Elegant Oprah That's supposedly the truth but personally, I believe that it's actually an E6. Doesn't matter though. What is important is her support and connection all throughout the notes within her range.
@@hillmiss1736 hm idk if he meant falsetto I genuinely think swivel is talking about a falsetto mix chest .
@@djswivel so like 3 or more notes above the height note hmm..I’m curious I think it’s more than that but please tell more stories or start answering more questions about her vocals
I loved hearing and watching behind the scenes stories. seeing the process makes me appreciate the finished product even more. However, the fact that you stopped her from adding another set of choruses makes me want to dislike this video lol Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for the great comment Deryl! hahaha, sometimes, you CAN infact have too much!
Honestly I stumbled upon this channel yesterday & this is the best lockdown binge watch I’ve had in a while 👏🏿👏🏿
Wow, thank you!
@@djswivel all love ✊🏿
12:00 120 vocals I been there ..all day just trying to get a syllable right..oh what fun..but Bey was just havin fun..must be great working with a killer pro.
:) :) :)
so we’re waiting on “Life” to leak, unless it’s “Schoolin’ Life” you’re speaking of !
Thanks for doing this! Love hearing the story :)
Amazing! Thanks for sharing
I love this video sm.
How did you go about pitching all the tracks up? Some type of macro control for each tracks? For heaven’s sake it wasnt moving everything up manually, right?
On Love On Top, we pitched up the sections using a pitch shifter as we were recording the vocals, then we went back and pitched each MIDI part before it was processed to audio, and recorded the horns live, in their respective keys with each key change.
also your hoodie is fire ;)
FEUGO!
Please dont hate on my man just bcoz of this story.. love u swivel,
ahaha, thanks for the defence Jovan!
Thank you DJ swiv thank you for sharing with the hive we are very much greaful

Thanks for the video🙏
I so agree that there are no rules in music! 🎀💯🙌 great video....
Exactly!!
I’m sure you were thrilled when she used the song to announce her pregnancy to the world 🌍
That was a special moment!
Dope!!
No sir, YOU ARE DOPE! Sorry we missed this man, you're a legend brother, DRUMS FOR DAYS!!!
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🐝🐝🐝🐝
Gracias por contar esto ♥️♥️
Omg I wish they made an alternative version with the other key changes ughh
I think this video is creating some misunderstandings. There was never more key changes. You guys heard the maximum key changes she wanted. She just said she physically COULD do more. The song is exactly the version Bey wanted the world to hear though.
l like music and sing
Thanks Swiv!
YESSS!
Thanks Gabrielle!!!
You have the best job!! Such an intimate experience working with her in the actual process of her laying her vocals. What I would give to be your assistant lol.

Yeah, that was a special occasion visiting my alma mater! I no longer engineer her, but i can tell you she's a beast in the booth, super long sessions! I did another video on it, check it if you haven't seen it!
