You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger by Woody Allen - Cannes Press Conference (2010)
Woody Allen, who came to present his latest film Out of Competition, You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger, responded to questions from the press, alongside actors Lucy Punch, Josh Brolin, Naomi Watts and Gemma Jones.
    Excerpts:
Woody Allen, on his world view:
I’m rather pessimistic, I always have been, even as a child. Life is a nightmarish experience; the only way to be happy is to lie to yourself! The only two people in my film who are happy are completely crazy.
Josh Brolin talks about his experience filming with Woody Allen:
He is a director who creates electricity on set, where anything can happen. He gives you full responsibility for your character. He is a very humble person. When he offered me the role, he sent me a note saying "You may remember me from the filming of Melinda and Melinda? I was the director!"
Woody Allen, on the themes of death and aging in his film:
If I could be in as good shape as Manoel de Oliveira, I’d like to live to be a hundred! But I am not in favour of death. (...)
Getting old is really not an advantage. You don’t get any more intelligent or more generous. My advice is to avoid it!
About his calling as a director:
Many of my films have literary qualities. If I didn’t make films, I’d write novels.

I will say that he is innocent though. He really is a genius. If you're interested, go watch the RUclips video called 'By the Way, Woody Allen is Innocent' by Rick Morley.

@Blake B- Really was Woody Allen finally honest about raping a 7 year old child.

"honest" He pointed out to Lucy on the set that her improvising wasn't _better_ than what he wrote. Which was blunt, but honest, and she was working for him. She's incredibly funny, as Dinner For Schmucks shows -- and he wanted to make a Woody Allen movie in particular.

@@FirstLast-nh6go You know he never actually raped anyone, right? Maybe when you can get off your soapbox, you can take ten minutes of your life to research the case and realize how utterly infantile and stupid you sound right now

He is so beautiful and funny. Even his pessimism is cute! If Woody is right about God, then his conclusions about life are absolutely correct. I believe Woody has somehow missed the truth about life and God/Jesus, which makes me sad. Woody is so honest and courageous,; not afraid of truth and reality. Beautiful!

Shew, I've not watched this in years. But it's such a shame that so many people are so eager to believe those accusations about him and "cancel" him. It's closing them off to such an interesting, insightful, intelligent, talented, and hilarious figure in our popular culture. It really makes me sad. Even in these more advanced years of his life, he's still as sharp and witty as ever. But everyone's so busy arguing about scandals to appreciate him while he's here.

Woody wants his actors to come in, act and go home. Thank you very much.

I would have to agree with all Mr Allen says about life being basically pointless and we need delusion to keep us going
but in respect to him saying we should laugh at say two good looking people at a party hitting off on each other and
considering how deluded they are well I once had a truly life changing experience at a party once.
I cant remember too much but I think I had taken drugs at the time and was talking to a women
almost positively sure I was going to get laid that night.I think we would of made fantastic sex that night and
had a wonderful life together with kids and a mortgage only her husband who I knew totally nothing about grabbed
me from behind and kept hitting he until I woke up in the local hospital with concussion and two broken ribs.
