The LD/Scorsese scenes are underrated in the Curb cannon. LD displays the breadth and depth of his arrogance in challenging Scorsese on the art of filmmaking, proving once again that he will argue with anyone any place, any time, whether he is right or wrong.
Love how Scorsese seems to be able to put up with anything! He must be amazing to work with. And for all he's done for film preservation, God Bless Him!
I'm not sure what’s more epic - Larry's realistic acting as a gangster, or the wig he's wearing to make him look the part. Either way, this is a fab scene.
It's THe E minor Prelude. It's short, it's in a gratifyingly slow speed and it has a superficially straightforward left-hand part, with a sad, singing melody line in the right, perfect for this scene....
No he wasn't. Scorcese just knows how to work with difficult actors. You listen to their bullshit, say you agree with everything they say, make them feel smart and then you make them do the scene like you wanted it to be done anyway. He might look submissive but he's in control the entire time.
I like the little bits where people genuinely laugh and break.. like when he said to Martin “what are you doing, do you even know what you’re doing?!” LOL 😆
The slaps to scorcese sooo amazing, venting his frustration and getting away with it. and Marty saying that s too hard obviously pissed off i peed my pants ;)
Just to be clear, Larry (as director) directed Scorcese (as actor playing himself) how he should react to him being directed (him playing himself as a director) by Larry (his played character playing an actor) during playing a take inside a show. If this isn't meta, I don't know what is.
Damn this was super impressive. Maybe it's just the costuming but he really killed it. Makes me want to see him do like, anything at all other than just playing himself in everything lol
“Why won’t balls read” is one of my favourite lines of all time. I wish they’d done more of this. I love how Scorsese blinds him with science: the video was going in and out 😂 such classic stuff.
Pretty astonishing. I've watched Curb episodes dozens of times, I've seen clips hundreds of times, looked at countless interviews but... I would never have recognised Larry David in that disguise. The voice, maybe would be familiar, but that's it. How much does hair and a moustache (and an attitude) changes a man.
Marty’s bit at the start did genuinely sound like something someone from a Scorsese film would say - diction, accent, everything. Makes you kinda want a Larry David-led mob film.
Was thinking the same about Daniel Day-Lewis and not only in his role as Bill the Butcher. At first I couldn't place who he reminded me of. Scrolling through comments to see is anyone else had same impression.😀
The fact that Martin Scorsese would even find the time to put up with this abuse shows he knows he is a genius filmmaker and is confident enough in his abilities to take a little ribbing.
