2000 Y for me. Though I love how 1990 looks as well. I had my Y model for a few years in my mid 20s and it really made me fall in love with the 750...
My 86 750 is about to hit 60,000miles. Still commuting daily across Auckland NZ in the dark and the rain. I could always take the car to work, but I never do. This bike gets me to work in a great mood every time.

At 20 years old I had the 1985 RG500, what a weapon, sold it for a house deposit, have had many bikes since but for me nothing compares.
There's nothing like the love of a bike even admitting it's not that great anymore but you can't sell it because it brings you joy. So many people blow through a lot of bikes and never really find an attachment to them which is a shame.
My era of bikes to be honest. And I loved the GSXR. I'm way older than you and owned these bikes back in the day. Only being 5ft 8 the fact you sat in a Suzuki suited me literally to the ground. Light, compact, with everything you needed and nothing you didn't, just right. As no riding god they handled better than I could ride. The carbs could be a pain to keep balanced, apart from that great. Never had a modern bike or car with all the tech. Still ride two old school bikes and my Ute is 24 years old. Nothing about modern vehicles really appeals to me. And don't like the idea of a computer making decisions for me. The racing back then was great to watch, I followed it all. We rode to tracks all over Britain and sat glued to the telly for the rest. Haven't watched a modern GP or WSB in years. That is one nice bike.
I was a tech in a Suzuki dealership when the very first GSXR750 arrived in a crate. I was the first one in the New York region to assemble one... and test ride it, (for two miles). Exciting at the time!

How's this for a story of 'sale regret' I once owned a '86 GSXR1100 slabby in blue and white at the tender age of 19. It was so cool to have it parked up outside my local pub. You could actually pull with a bike like that back in the day.I was quite the celebrity in my home town, Barnard Castle. Or was that notorious haha. I then swapped it for a mint RD500LC. They both passed through my young hands without a single thought of how special they would both turn out to be! Those were the days!

I had the original GSXR1100. I see to recall that the rev counter did not register anything below 3000rpm. In top gear the rev counter would just begin to move somewhere between 50 and 55mph. What a bike. Sold it because I need to fit some central heating!
I had the follow-up - GSX-R1100H - in many ways the best Bike, I will ever own - only top shelf for the time it was born into 🙂 After nearly 10 years of ownership my back cried enough. BUT, I will never get another Ride like this again 🙂 That said - my next and current Ride - DL650 - turned 20 this spring. She was in the first Crate in DK (the other was Silver - both Regis traded same day). I had to register first complaint when she turned 15 !!!! (a burned '5w position light') - so all in all - two great bikes : The Gixer will newer as comfy as the VStrom (or reliable) and likewise will the VStrom never be as exhilarating on tarmac than the Gixer (had that one over 120Km/h ~75mph, on gravel - by accident) 🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂

Love it. The 14 years from the release of this bike to 1999 (R1, R6) is a remarkable period of motorcycle history. I was roadracing an '86 in '92 and it was ancient history already.

@@queenslander954 By 1992 a ZX7 put down 110rwhp and ran modern (even today!) 17" tires of 120/180 width on 3.5/5.5" wheels. The '86 GSXR made about 90rwhp and had 2.5/3.5" 18" wheels. Race tire choice was already limited by that time. Like I said, ancient history.
Love this bike. I was a teenager living in Tokyo in 1986 and that’s where I first became obsessed with motorcycles.
I've got over 100K on my Slingshot from 1988, still runs reliably only getting the rudiments of maintenance to keep it good for the road.
Its my favourite looking of the GSXR's and easy to ride, just not very far with my 62 yr old back.
My memories of riding a friends new first year Slab side was it wanting to fall into corners and the motor feeling overly busy, but that was from stepping off my new first year VFR.
I was surprised I liked the Slingshot to ride when I test rode it, beyond its looks, but it has been a keeper.
I am 57 this year. In my 20's I wanted a 1989 Yamaha FZR1000 but could not afford it or the insurance. Found one unmolested in 2014. My next bike I want is a 1986 Suzuki GSXR1100. It was the first super bike I had the pleasure to ride.
I was 11 years old when this bike appeared, i thought the Kawasaki GPZ,GPX looked futuristic and then this came along, a race bike with lights,incredible!
I had one. It had the 1100 suspension and wheels, a Vance & Hines ignition advancer, swept up silencer and single seat bum box. It was a hooligan tool. It became a bumper sticker on a mini bus.
Had my first bike in ‘86, Suzuki TS50X. I had the Suzuki sales brochure for that year with every model of Suzuki road bike in it. Amazing to believe now when you see so many different niches and models of bike that manufacturers make but back then there were only a handful of different models in Suzuki’s range.
TS50/125/250x, RG125/250/500, DR, GSX and then the mighty GSXR 750/1100.
That brochure was thumbed and inspected as if it was a copy of Razzle by the 16 year old me. Every detail of the GSXR was absorbed and adored like the exotica that it was.

Interesting and honest assessment of bike development over the last 40 years or so. It makes me realise how privileged us boomers have been to experience it. For all our riding lives, bikes have never been better than the current crop.
38 years latter and the bike looks still a beautiful piece of motorcycle, I wonder which bikes of today would look so in 38 years… who knows… may be a good matter for discussion in another video…, great job MCN thanks
The oil cooling worked great on those and the basic motor was in production for decades
In 1978 I bought a new Suzuki GS750EC and loved it. Put a quarter fairing, Kerker ehaust and Zbars on . When the GSXR750 came out I had swapped bikes for a family. Now decades later I bought a 2024 GSX-8R and it takes me back to my GS750. Awesome machines.
I was 14 in '86 my mates older brother had one of these, and his mate had the green Skoal Bandit RG500, I used to just drool over them both, but it was the RG I really wanted.
The year was 1989 and I was coming off my P ( 250cc or less here in Australia at the time ) and I walked into local Suzuki dealer and a secondhand one of these in this exact colour was sat there. I had to have it- traded my RGV250 plus some $ and off I went. That was my first “ proper “ motorcycle…. 😊

I had the 1100H and it was awesome for the day
I was living in Riyadh as a fresh faced 21 year old in 1985, the local dealer had one in the window that we spent hours drooling over, it was a huge step on from the CB900 / GS1000 that we were riding at the time
I got a 1987 gsxr1100h for sale! Had her 22 years! I'm in Bristol area uk! Fantastic bike!
Had an 86 model in Florida got it up to 155mph on I 95, closed it off someone shooting at cars. Always wanted the blue one because I saw one doing a wheelie through traffic lights on north circular. Great bike took so much abuse.
My 1992 Gixer was by far the best bike i have ever ridden. Avon tyres i think they where called Azaro's stuck to the road like glue a few sildes big one on the front. More stories later. Cheers Michael great work.

I had one of these as my first street bike, an '87h model (same bike) in Australia Back in 2000 so it was an old bike then. It was a Japanese model and was dark blue in the places this one is black. Loved it, light and had a screaming top end. I had the 1990 1100 after that and 4 GSXR1000's since. I've had nothing but GSXR's and the 750 started it all for me. Great to see this video!
It’s definitely a 87 H model. Not sure why he thinks it a 86 G??
@christyrer9530 probably late '86 which was meant for '87 I'd say.... Ya know how they use to put them out early.

lived in New England where riding was very seasonal. Rode all through the months and off season i would completely go through and detail and service waiting impatiently for the better weather.
Had the exact same bike with the same exaust that i sent out and had ceramic coated when it first came around. i absolutely loved it. Had it dynoed at a bike rally for $20 to see how my upgrades were doing and beat everybodys guesses at 92HP. She really hauled the mail. Mine was always just as pristine and it to always got peoples attention more than any bike i had before or since. It was so weird even looking back at all the times i would come out of a store, party or bar, etc and inevitably there were people standing around or sitting on it. Almost had many fights because of that odd fact. Id get so pissed, like get the hell off my bike. Who does that, it made me nuts. I still have no explanation why it happened so often. I have and still do have great bikes without ever having that problem. It had over 80k hard miles on it when i sold it, i could not help but ring its neck every time we went for a ride. You have lots of life left in yours. Every year took the three hour ride to Laconia for the race/ rally weekend with friends. I still regret selling it, was one of my favorite bikes ever. It also had a remarkable Corbin seat and must say if you ever find one buy it. Completely changed the feel and comfort of the thing. Especially with the OG seat being red. I zhould say pink after a while. The gages were the same, never saw the three gage set up before. Had to watch when i saw the bike in these colors. Just so great to see it again, thank you for the memory flash back.
There’s something about old machines, I’ve got a few bikes and enjoy my Gen 1 Fireblade and 1957 James Captain just as much as my newer stuff, the Suzuki looks great 👍
They don't make sports bikes anywhere near as beautiful as that today. Absolutely gorgeous!!
Have recently bought a totally standard and orignal [standard pipe and airbox]blue and white 1986 gsxr1100,been sat in a garage unstarted for 28 years and only 2 owners,have had to go through it all,like rebuilding brakes etc .the only upgrade i have done is a ohlins rear shock and new fork springs.cant wait to get out on it when im finished restoring it.loved these bike since i was 16,now the wrong side of 50

I had the exact same bike, an 86' 750 red and black. I also had my wheels powder coated white with a 4-1 Yoshi with a black canister. I had her until 1991. I never should have sold her.
I remember that this bike was the epitome of 'cool' when first released, and it still is...epic motorcycle, LOVE it.
I have a 1986 750 g got it back in 1987, has a supertrapp 4 into one, vance & hines timeing advancer and stage 3 carb kit, I will never sell it, she runs fine today, only 10,000 + miles on it. My old man bike is a 1988 gsx-1100 katana.
I was 15 when these came out me and some mates went to our Suzuki dealer lusting after these and Ts50's and were promptly told to f##k off by the shop owner .. proper customer service 🤣🤣🤣
I had a C reg TS50X best of the mopeds it was massive. No non bike person would except it was a 50cc and only went 30mph with a 21 front 18 rear

I remember the first exactly where I saw this bike back in 1986.
As as a 16 year old i was so intimidated by these back in the day. Wish i had bought one now! Love it. Ended up buying a 1987 CBR600F.
I had that exact same model but mine was an import. Interestly though I didnt have the fuel gauge that you talk about. Just remember that you could ride it through the revs but if you caught it at about 7000 with the correct throttle response it would rip your arms off. Amazing bike. When I upgraded to an srad however I was going to keep both but when I rode the slabside after the srad it felt outdated so sold it. Nostalgia is a great thing but probably not when you have multiple bikes. Probably the most fun bike I ever had though.

A local lad bought one of these brand new when I was about 17. It looked like it was from a different planet, a real milestone in bike design.
Remember my brothers mate coming round on a brand new blue one of these... I'd never seen anything like it! I was riding a Vespa at the time and it just blew me away at how amazing it looked.

Had a 750 H ,1100H 1100k , 1000k3,, and my K6GSXR, always liked the black and red,, reminds me of the Yoshi bikes ,, cracking bike,,

Love 80s sports bikes as its when i started riding. The GSXR750 was a dream bike to me back then. I still own a TZR250 from that time and likewise don't ride it much but can't sell it.
Bloody hell, hard to believe next year makes it forty years since l saw my first GSX R 750 here in Western Australia.

My orange and black K8 I had, bought it from new and took it to the TT. Absolutely beautiful bike looked fantastic in those colours with a black and silver Arrow can. Lovely finish and build quality too.
That's almost spooky, I was mid-comment just now about good old Farmer Giles, when the seat pad was brought into the conversation. A more aesthetically pleasing solution is to wear some decent cycling shorts under your leathers ( or jeans)......no-one need inow you're an undercover MAMIL 😊.

Great video. So many memories, as in my 20s I had exactly the same bike. It had a great motor, handled terribly and spat me off a few times on remote country roads in Tasmania, but I loved it.
I ended up going with the VFR 750 in 86. I always wanted the Gixxer though.

Thanks for the video! A truly Iconic bike, that I'd love to own. I had the 750 Slingshot, and that was also fantastic. Wish I never sold it, but would rather have a slab! 55 yrs old and went through all the 350LC & YPVS stuff. Regret selling every one of them now :-(

You need to put the airbox on it. The engine will live much longer, it will run better and it will also function when it is raining.
I remember siting at brands hatch roundabout before a foggy world superbike race on my nsr250 and 2 of these nearly looped themselves wheelie ing away from the lights.i was laughing my head off in my lid. Loved them suzukis

I bought a GSXR 1100 black and red in 1987. Lovely bike but it was uncomfortable. And I always wished I'd bought the blue and white.

Yeaaaaa a ‘M(C)Neeves about 750 Gixxers, and yet different MO from usual🤔. Lovely looking bike is that mr boss man 👍. That’s the bike that made me want one back in the day, (and every model since to the present!). Always thought the K6 was the one for me, but I do love the K8 headlight (its Face 🤗, v.pretty!). The L1’s face isn’t as nice (looks like a cats face, if you squint 🤣), but taking everything onboard, it’s the one for me. Forks, brakes, weight, .. scattering of black in with the blue & white (it’s Law!!) … 13 plate, (Dark 🙃) Blue Frame & swinger, Yoshi R11, 7k miles, never selling! The blue framed ones are faster than MN’s L3 onwards, tell him I said so 🤣🤣.
That said I love the red & white of (? L4? L5?) & the YoshiSpecial one 🤔🤔.. and after Cadwell last week .. I’m Really fancying an SRAD750, there were loads out, literally hundreds 😎👍.

I've got a 1990 GK76a GSXR 400 RL in OEM black with red & silver graphics which looks as good as this gorgeous 750 Gixxer is in the same colours. Was that the Yoshimura corporate race colours back then? Nearly bought a blue on white GSXR 750 G back in the late eighties, but went for a 31K 350 Power Valve instead thinking it would be the safer / easier to manage bike.
Thought I would kill myself on the GSXR with all that power & speed ! 🤕🤪 Great wee videos by the way, keep 'em coming.

I had a lot of trouble deciding between the first of the 750 gixxers or the last of the big strokers, the RG500s. My biking friends unanimously decided that I should get the 750, so I bought the RG500😂
