I've been playing drums for almost 25 years, and this is the most amazing instrument I've ever played. The sound and feel of the drum is incredible! Thanks!
Just Received mine. Best Snare I have ever played. Went from a Big Band session to a Fusion session then to a live TV show. Same snare. No compromise at all. No tape or rings etc. Just play!!
Hi Roy, thanks for commenting. Those Tama snare are great! Now, the 13"x7" is not going to have the flexibility of the "Versatus" drum. Especially as a primary snare. The cross ticks are not as clear (You need a groove-wedge) with a 13". Also, the well-rounded combination of Maple-Mahogany adds a very wide tuning range to the drum. Maybe both! :). Anyway, best of luck with it, RM
If you know how to tune you can (or I can) make three completely different drums sound identical. You'd have to have a well trained ear to tell the difference.
His comment about the staggered lugs doesn't hold up 'cos that size shell is to small to accommodate the lugs in line. Also the diplomat head might be a little lightweight for some heavy hitters. Having said that I played this drum in the shop this very afternoon and it does sound very good indeed, especially at higher tunings. Definitely one for your short list (or long list in my case!)
I wondered that myself and don't think it really has any affect at all. I've had the drum for a little while now and it's amazing. Looking forward to trying different heads.
Russ is more than likely a great guy; but the minute some dude starts talking about the equipment he endorses as his 'go to' equipment...I've got a problem. Drumhead Magazine Ensnared 2 Issue is a great example of this. One guy with 6 snares and guess what...everyone of them is from the company he endorses. Really? Kind of limited in your sound aren't you?
Have had mine for a while now (a few years) and I LOVE it. Fantastic instrument!

That means a lot coming from you Bobby! Awesome! RM
Never heard a snare this versatile. My older 12" cherry bomb is THE funk drum with an awesome fat fundamental!
I have this drum, played with it a few times, it absolutely delivered the tones I was looking for.
Wow! Seems like me and Russ have the exact same things we want from a snare drum. Amazing.
Great video. Lots of explanation and also some clear demos. Much appreciated.
Love to hear this and the Mapex Black Widow...head to head...
Both very good.
I'm getting this bad boy in the summer!
Russ seems like a genuinely nice guy. Great player, too.
Nice snare drum!
Great to see decent heads on a drum in this price range...about time...😊
I GOTTA HAVE THIS BAD BOY !!!!
I’m tossing up between this and the Tama SLP G maple 13x 7” snare.
I’m a big fan of the affordable SLP series.
Any recommendations ?

Found out Russ Miller took mechanical and architectural engineering so he may know something we don't.
Yo I know it's been 7 years but he could've went with a single lug design at the center. C'mon

Does anyone know the name of the song being played at 2:49?
Meu Bem Querer a Brazilian Classic from the Arrival "Chegada3" album, all these tunes feature the snare on them! RM
So what happened with the Journey cover video?

I have one!
The background music is very distracting..... but the drum is pretty cool
hmm, you say no need for muffilng, yet i still hear that unwanted resonance in a very disturbing frequency...although not so much in the mix
marketing gimmick
beautiful sound ugly drums
