However, as a person who's worked on these strawberry farms in Australia, I've seen their owners and staff hire hundreds of Asian workers and treat them like slaves, and the same goes for the backpackers travelling through, who work here for their Visa extensions. I was horrified to see the way staff were treated. The Australian farmers aren't governed on how they treat their staff. So I can only think this is a horrific tactic by the workers to get back at the farmers. The authorities MUST review WHY this is happening, and not react on the action alone. I'm very confident if the Authorities looked into this, they'd find a different world for how the Australian farmers treat young people trying to experience Australian Life in poor conditions. One episode a metal bristle from a grille cleaning brush got ingested at a bbq and made it's way all the way down and pinned a guys intestines. For myself, I'd buy them anyway. I want to help the farmers, so I'd just cut them up before eating them. There are a lot of things you can do with strawberries wihout getting hurt. To be honest though, even if they made jam out of it, I wouldn’t eat it as the needle may possibly risk the sanitation of the strawberries themselves due to the acid in the fruit causing them to rust
if a needle is found then the strawberry wouldn't be used to make the jam... and really the needles are inserted when hey are in the shop, if the jam maker take the strawberries straight from the farmer then there will be no needle concerns.

We used to buy a brand of mixed vegetables for stir fry. I don't remember what grocer sold it but on two occasions there were rusted partials of safety pins in the peas casing. They we're safety pins with the hinge and lock broken off essentially leaving behind a needle.

You can use a strong magnet to detect if there's any needles inside your strawberries, I just put a sewing needle in a strawberry & I could feel the attraction of the magnet pulling the needle, it's a better solution than just hoping.

For myself, I'd buy them anyway. I want to help the farmers, so I'd just cut them up before eating them. There are a lot of things you can do with strawberries wihout getting hurt. Why dont they sell them to all places that serve alcohol. Strawberry daquries are wonderful. I'm just concerned aboit the kids eating them b4 parents get a chance to cut them. Maybe when they catch all the rat-bags that are doing this, they could keep all the fruit with needles & let them eat them. Those people should definitely have to pay farmers back until they are fully paid, even if it takes the rest of their lives. Putting them in jail wont do much for the fsrmers to get their money back. I say get them a job & make at least half their pay be given to farmers. Putting them in jail will mainly mean that tax payers will be paying for them to be there, including farmer's taxes that will also be used to feed the mongrels. Make them pay FINANCIALLY to garmers. They could be given 2 or more jobs, leaving them too tired to do anything else but sleep & work.

The explanation is that moronic pranksters are placing needles inside of bananas and strawberries as some sort of practical joke/copycat prank. This has led to tonnes of strawberries being dumped and wasted, and a national food scare. Strawberry farmers' lives are also at stake, and campaigners are urging to public to continue to buy strawberries (and cut them up before consumption) to support the nations farmers' livelihoods.

I grew up on a farm, every summer I’d handle my family’s strawberry patch with my cousin. it’s so sad to see such a waste because of some evil people.

Grand City, Use your brain. Do you really think those huge piles with I'm going to estimate at probably 10-20 thousand strawberries all have needles stuck in them? Regardless they weren't and haven't been anywhere near a store. Those piles were farmers dumping their harvest after the pricing pretty much hit nothing and loads of people weren't buying strawberries any more.

When you really think about it, it's impossible for such a large scale sabotage to be an individual's work. Who stands to benefit the most from a fear towards natural fruits? Obviously, it's someone who profits from the production of processed foods! The investigators just don't want to get their hands dirty, they're sharp enough to deduce this kind of thing instantly.
Obviously, some people will duplicate the "prank" after hearing about it, but for it to be so widespread and at such a large scale, do you really believe some people with nothing to gain from it did that? Procuring millions of needles alone is not something someone with nothing to gain from it would do, let alone painstakingly hiding them in fruits. Additionally, they'll need to put the food back into circulation.

To be honest though, even if they made jam out of it, I wouldn’t eat it as the needle may possibly risk the sanitation of the strawberries themselves due to the acid in the fruit causing them to rust
if a needle is found then the strawberry wouldn't be used to make the jam... and really the needles are inserted when hey are in the shop, if the jam maker take the strawberries straight from the farmer then there will be no needle concerns.
@@WeiYinChan erm... I don't really think so, as it is believed that the needles have been inserted by people picking and packaging the needles into the punnet. By the time it reaches the hands the hands of the jam makers, rust from the needle would have already contaminated the strawberries.
Sirius Snazz again, if there is needle in a strawberry the jam maker would just not put that one in. And most cases are copy cat cases, the ones who got caught were mostly kids, so no, most of the contamination happens inside the shop

We used to buy a brand of mixed vegetables for stir fry. I don't remember what grocer sold it but on two occasions there were rusted partials of safety pins in the peas casing. They we're safety pins with the hinge and lock broken off essentially leaving behind a needle.

You can use a strong magnet to detect if there's any needles inside your strawberries, I just put a sewing needle in a strawberry & I could feel the attraction of the magnet pulling the needle, it's a better solution than just hoping.
