The unmistakeable sound of Sadao Watanabe, my most favourite saxophonist, first time hearing him speak english! All world class musicians here. Thanks for the trip dowm memory lane.
Eric Gale, Richard Tee, Ralph McDonald, and Steve. New York City's greatest session rhythm section. These guys created the indelible sounds of the 70s and 80s smooth jazz genre.
Some great players in this video. All musical heroes of my teens, and I still listen to them in different constellations, like Will Lee with Pat Matheney and Gary Burton. Still have the vinyl Watanabe album California Shower, the tune they seem to be rehersing. Thanx for posting.
Thanks for sharing this video clip. I have never seen the sax player, Sadao Watanabe perform before. Even if it's in rehearsal. I could only find one LP of his from 1986, "Good Time for Love". His music very smooth and melodic - easy groove, which makes Steve Gadd, the perfect drummer for his music. Lots of excellent supporting musicians - jazz, and R & B greats.😀👍
Thanks Ruben!! You are the number one Gadd aficionado in the world today!. Many years ago when I first heard Gadd I wanted to learn what made him tick, then I saw a video of him playing Sissy strut in an army band and realised he has always been Steve Gadd. Such is the nature of genius. Buddy and Steve both have that perceived inability to explain their genius to the satisfaction of their adoring followers. It's like asking a bird how he flies. He just shrugs his wings and takes off! Although Steve has done some great videos and tutorials. There is always more questions. You're videos and explanations and playing is the best I've seen in all these years. Thankyou for all your great work Ruben. From all lifelong lovers of Gadd are truly a gift and a blessing, like the man himself!

Also Will Lee
Don't forget Grover Washington Jr. (RIP) and William Henry Marcus Miller Jr.

Different constellations? Is that something to do with star gazing?🤔
This is fantastic! Thank you for sharing this unbelievable magic.

Thank you for sharing.
Your welcome some amazing stuff!!!
The place is full of black Yamaha RC drums.
👍🙂R.I.P. Eric Gale & Richard (Mr.) Tee. 😢
Fine respected musicians.. they collaborate with respect.. cool.. ✌️😎
Wow sadao watanabe…..one of my favourite sax players besides the late grover washington
Cleanly shaven and playing match-grip…
its like seeing a unicorn
Hahaha, that was funny.

Rehearing for Sadao Watanabe's Live at the Budokan
Wow, how the hell did you even get a hold of this? Incredible. Looks like a good pay day, too! 😆 Pretty sure they nailed it at the gig. Thanks.
The concert is also on RUclips, sadao watanabe live 1984 feat.Roberta Flack
DigとかBack In The Poolとか。
How young Will Lee was...walking in the big footsteps of A.Jackson.
At 1:03 something we a\ll did at some point .Pencil snack :)))
Will Lee was there as well !
Wow! They all were so young. Look at Will from the old Letterman Band on bass. He looks like a little kid!
Great to see Ralph Macdonald in action.😊
Ralph MacDonald producer and percussion.
Basically Paul Simon’s pre Graceland band with Watanabe.
Fill up the night
Fill up the night
Ruben have you heard "friendship" album by lee ritenour, direct to disc recording.
Yes'sir!!!
RALPH MACDONALD, percussion & music director
❤
Will Lee there!
Smooth 😂😂jazz
Is that Will Lee on bass?
Yes!
Instead of "Adadadadadaa. make it Addadadadaddadada."
Guys are smoking 😊
cigarettes too
Het Ruber, what is that snare drum?
Yamaha metal 14x6,5;)
Thanks!!!!
9:30 mute
Yes:( ruclips.net/video/iCBj0LkcP_U/видео.htmlsi=t1swN3_Yr4tVYYlQ
Sounds like the soundtrack to 1980's Porn 😅
who has a pencil in their mouth at 1:01? thanks
I think it's Richard Tee
Poor labeling of video. Gadd's barely in it.
Oh I think he is there the whole time, strange
Steve gadd ? WTF
been following him for 50 years
Why is Greg Brady playing the drums?
C'è da commentare? ✨🌟🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅Manca Anthony Jackson e vabbè...
