  • In this video we have a look at rather unusual Chev Blitz Crain. It has been modified to be able to be driven in both directions with 2 steering wheels and 2 sets of pedals.

What a treasure trove! I'd be entertained for hours poking around that property

Hi, yes I have had a great time exploring the property. I spent a bit of time there to get a tractor that I had bought going and had a great time poking around everything else.
      Thanks from Geoffrey

Well done Old Mate! Nice to see the time honoured traditional Armstrong steering being used 😂. Good to see you swapped out yellow jerry can for a red jerry can. Ha Ha . There is an American you tuber who is always getting called out for having diesel in a red container by the work place and health practitioners. His response as long as the containers don’t leak who gives a ______ . I can remember in the late 1950’s I must have been about 4 yrs old there was an old flat top Biltz down the road with a beer bottle on the back. I took a swig thinking I was having a beer BUT alas the bloody thing contained PETROL 😂😢😮

Hi John, I am glad you enjoyed it. I was certainly sweating with that steering. I should have greased everything first. The yellow petrol can matches the rest of the Blitz better. The red can is mine and had to swap when the other one ran out.
The petrol in the beer bottles must have left a nasty taste in your mouth.
      Thanks from Geoffrey

    You got a sub!
I have been looking at an old crane blitz like this. I remember my father driving them when I was a kid.
I wonder if you could put a modern, nylon winch rope onto that reel and save 100kg?
And I'm sorry if this is sacreligious but I've been thinking about engine swaps as well. I don't want crazy modern horsepower, I just want a small, modern, strong engine that I can get parts for and maintain a bit easier. I think I read these old motors put out about 70hp? I'd be happy with 70 to 90hp in a smaller motor that doesn't take up as much of the cab. The only issue is I do love the sound of those old motors.

Hi, I am glad you are enjoying my videos. There is a blitz Facebook page where people do all sorts of crazy modifications to them. A more modern engine wouldn’t be a bad idea. These old trucks are slow, so if you could find a new engine with a higher rev range it would go a little faster as well.
I don’t see any reason why you couldn’t put a nylon rope on the drum.
      Thanks from Geoffrey

I would think if it was made safe and working correctly it could still be a useful thing every now and then Geoffrey 👍from me

Hi Nick, yes it would be very useful. I did wonder about buying it to use around the farm and building the house.
I am glad you enjoyed it. Thanks from Geoffrey
