Hi there from COMBLOC permanent resident :) Just wanted to notice, that most our (7.62x39/54) steel core ammo is not considered AP. Bullets used in AP rounds have core made of tempered steel, they are less common. By the way, thanks for the video. That plate showed itself really good.
Search on RUclips. Russian FSB trainings. And those guys actually shoot eachother with full metal jacket and body armor at point blank range. Its unbelievable.. Then straight after the russian agent pulls a gun out after getting shot then returns fire. The exercise is meant to reflect a real life situation and make the FSB operative immune to nerves. I'd recommend u have a look. Anyways as usual brilliant video. Keep it up guys and happy new year
A steel core does *NOT* automatically equal an armor-piercing bullet. *Never* did. *Never* will. *Mild* steel is a much cheaper (and arguably less toxic) filler than lead. *Hardened* steel and *tungsten* as what makes up the cores of *true* AP ammo.
I know. That buges me too when people say M855 or 7.62x54R are armor piercing. They're not. Yes they migh have a slightly better time penetrating hard cover but not much. Not all stteel is created equal!
762gunr NO. It's just a slip of the tongue. Like when people say star wars is a good movie but are referring to the prequels. We know they arent good movies but people think they are because they have the star wars title
No surprises here. Silver Tip 54R failed to penetrate a level III plate at 15 yards from an M38. Would love to see this test at various yards with true AP x54R ammo (red and black tip, or black tip)
Hey, Eric. Check out TheBamidd's comment on the BATF's new ruling on the sig brace. Apparently now they're saying it's illegal to shoulder and that changes the classification of a pistol to an SBR. You should REALLY do a gun gripes on that.
Definitely worth a gripe. Worth doing more research into and waiting for an official word from the BAFTE. In my opinion, all these SBR nonsense laws are nothing but Hollywood crap anyway and should be repealed.
We will do a gripe on it...but relax guys...what's floating around out there is an opinion letter...nothing to be panicked about yet. What are they going to do about all the braces that are out there? Lol
***** from what i understand, the ATFs position hasn't changed. in that letter, the ATF ruled it would be an SBR because of the _intent_ of the guy who was making it. he was intending to make the gun to be shouldered as a rifle. if he had intended to make the gun to be used as a pistol, even in the exact same configuration, it would be legal, even if he shouldered it.
***** Only the courts can interpret laws, and there has not been a case regarding a pistol brace in court to allow a court to interpret the law and the facts. Until then, everyone -- including the ATF -- is merely giving opinions.
Every time I see you guys do an AR500 plate test, I lean closer and closer to buying some plates for my molle carrier. Great videos guys, keep it up, and Happy new year!
I almost died when you said "enough of the Micky Mouse guns" Like Barry had his Barry-ism's, you certainly have your Blanford-ism's as well. And they're mighty fine.
This goes to show that firing center of mass at a man wearing hard armor can still be effective. A lot of the rounds impacted his "flesh" where the armor didn't protect him.
I dont know but i think i saw one penetration at 10:00,there appeared hole in the torso a bit to the right from the vest and i thought he missed but then i saw smoke coming from a hole in the vest that also just appeared
I really like your videos and the effect you have on the gun world. Now that you added some humor, I think you have taken them to the next level. I hope you continue with the humor....Awesome job guys
Beautiful! I purchased the level 3 from spartan armory and am super impressed by all of the results. Thank you! It’s 250$ and definitely well worth it. Spartan apc shooters cut package with ar500 lvl III.
lynchlink01 Unless you get solid nose 5.45x39 I don't believe it would pass through because most of those (to my knowldege) are made with an air pocket in the nose, hence why they tumble on impact. And I think that would case the round to stop shorter than the 7.62x39 or going through. But I could be wrong.
@ 300 Yards neither will pierce the plate. They've already shot these hard armor plates with .300 Win Mag, .338 Lapua, and .50 BMG. About the only way to cut through the AR500 steel is to do it up close with High energy/velocity rounds or to use tungsten core bullets. Unfortunately few gun stores will get a hold of this type of ammunition for show and tell on their channels.
Love yours and Chads vids. Eric. Keep up the good work and look forward to 2015 with you guys. Missing Barry, but Chad seems to be a great guy and can't wait for whats coming next. Barry my brother, may you REST IN PEACE! We are missing you.
Really enjoyed the video guys and can't wait to see a full review of that PSL, particularly out at some longer ranges. Thanks for a great 2014 and all the best with your 2015 content!
7.62 x 54r is steel core, but it is NOT armor piercing ammo. The steel core in the silver tip was just for the ruskies to save lead. It is a flat tip mild steel they used.
They should've done that with a (repainted) airsoft or a blank-pistol, the reactions would've been nice. But on the other hand, they do it and then someone else does it with live rounds, so, good thing they didn't
Blake Otte Its the CIA/FBI style sunglasses at the begining of each video that gets me. He seems like a good guy and an awsome shot so for now I will deal with the sunglasses.
That was awesome, in the true sense of the word. I did say,.."You got to be kidding here ." when you had Chad there against the wall......Jeez............ All the best to Eric, Chad, Ray and all the folks behind the scenes there at Iragveteran8888 in 2015.
I know that you gunsmith quite frequently and many of your videos have given me inspiration to modify and improve my own firearms. So if i may ask a question, i was not aware that the PSL had a bolt hold open function - Could you possibly tell me what you did to this rifle if anything. The PSL performed above my exceptions since it has a nasty reputation as being a minute of man rifle due to its pencil thin barrel and the AK long piston system that is uses. Like another youtuber said I would love to see how this rifle compares to a VEPR rifle.
I was ready to cry foul! Sitting putting 12 rounds dead in the same hole first speaks to your handling of the PSL, and the firearms ability to shoot flat, but hell, that armor was not deformed, didn't see too much fragmentation flying out the side, even on slow motion, so I'd say, my investment in the Spartan ATC armor is a good thing. Hopefully there will never arise a situation in daily life where it will be required, but to have it and not use it is a helluva lot better than not having it and needing it. Spartan armor is relatively inexpensive as well. Finally, that plate carrier held up very good considering some of the larger models seem to get ripped to shreds. Thanks guys, nice video. Now, that big .50 you have, on a fresh plate, that's got to be a concern for the wearer.
I love body armor I have several Sets but what scares me is when he was shooting that 7.62 x39 at 300 yards he hit the dummy almost everywhere but the armor because of the short barrel lol I love your guys's videos keep them coming
Oh man, that's a Serbian military uniform jacket and army emblem! I guess we are exporting those as well as surplus, they are slightly different now... Well done and cheers from Serbia! :)

really enjoy these body armor videos. with that said, i think it's been pretty well established by now that nothing short of really large bore rifle calibers is making it through these plates. maybe look into some soft body armor tests with various handgun loads to spice things up a bit!
***** There is a great deal of shooting here in the UK. Lots of interest and variety in both target shooting and deer stalking(hunting). What do you think of the plate carrier? Is it going to last over time? What does it use to position/change the plate? Is it comfortable? What other carriers would you compare it against? Thank for the detail looking at possibly buying the setup
I was hoping you guys were going to test 7n6 ammo compared to non steel core 5.45 ammo. I've been curious if there was any way lives were saved by banning it's importation. It was on class 2 armor though, right?
Wow. Color me surprised. I really thought the 54R was going to blast right through it. Hell, the local indoor shooting ranges here won't let you bring the spam can ammo because they were concerned about it damaging their steel back stops. I'm pretty damn impressed. Definitely want to see more of that PSL in the future too.
Fun video - thanks again. I'm kind of a PSL guy, so especially fun for me. One thing I noticed that the first few shots missing left. Don't mean to insult your intelligence, but the side mounted Soviet style scopes need a windage adjustment past your zeroed range. This is because the side mounted scope point of aim crosses the bore axis to the right when elevation is adjusted and the windage compensates for this and from what I have read is standard operation for the SVD/side mounted scope. Looking forward to the follow-up review with the PSL.
The last rounds, out of the SVT (right?) didn't go through the armour, but wouldn't the shock of the impact (and the subsequent organ-displacement) have been fatal?
Does recoil of the rifle cause fatal injuries? Hit of the bullet on steel plate, energy of the bullet is distributed on a pretty large area. Soft body armor is completely different issue, because temporary deformation behind the armor hits deep, can break bones and cause internal injuries, Even standard kevlar military helmet can have almost two inches(!) of temporary deformation inside the helmet from a 9mm pistol round. Imagine what it does inside...
jpenna1976 Physics doesnt work like that.Recoil doesnt do much but a bullet certainly does. But yea, it being steel it would dissipate the force (not energy) over a larger area.
RJ Lee Pretty much equal energy goes into both directions when weapon fires, but true... my comment was a bit hastily written. Wiki quote " The momentum is equal to the mass of the gun multiplied by its velocity. This backward momentum is equal in magnitude, by the law of conservation of momentum, to the forward momentum of the ejecta (projectile(s), wad, propellant gases, etc...) from the gun. "
How long does it take you to clean your rifle after shooting that corrosive ammo? I usually just keep going through it until the patches or scrubs are almost completely clear. Better yet...do a video on cleaning your rifles after shooting the milsurp ammo....especially Mosin Nagant cleaning.
Great video! I was wondering if you guys could get your hands on some of AR500 level IV composite body armor? I think everyone would like to see how that performs for the cost.
Great Vid Sir thanks! Here is a question no one asked. I have watched every vid I could find on this plate. They shot the Multi Curved and then the new triple curved all with new coating. I notice when hit near edges the lead does break on the corners and fly out. Also noticed when the lead does hit center it finds it way out of side. So would it not be smarter to wear / buy the Multi curved rather then the triple curved because the triple curved comes into you more face sides gut etc? They sell Formed / Multi Curved ad triple curved. I would not go with Formed because of comfort but it just makes sense not to want to go with the triple because like I said the lead will find it way out and the end up glancing more into your area rather then Multi curved. Am i making sense or missing something? Thanks
This video did an excellent job showcasing the effectiveness of Russian weapons against body armor, I was pleased to see the 7.62 x 25 make an appearance for a change. That plate did a good job withstanding all those rounds, maybe next time we could see a how a soft body armor would stack up.
Hey I've got a question where did you get that shirt? Because the logo that you have on the left arm and the design is the same as for our military here. PS: I"m from Serbia.
holy shite! i thought there was going to be no way rosco survived that onslaught of red hot 7,62x54 steel that was rained upon him. kudos to the guys at spatan ,ar500 armour
Performed better than I expected with the 54R. Does anyone know what the thickness of the coating was? Was the coating "standard thickness" or a special order?
Thier are no videos of CQB level 3 armour testing on you tube. Most of us get plate carriers for home protection at close range. Is a green tip m855 going to burn through a spartan plate at 10 feet or in house distance? Do what you do, we want to know.
I want a soft armor base that covers the sides and put some steel or other hard plates in the front and rear. Might not help getting hit with rifle round in the side but it dang sure cant hurt.
I dont think you can find it in any small calibers but if it exists british squash head ammo is pretty neet stuff. That would really test the anti spalling on the plate.
I would have liked to see how the carrier holds the steel plates. Without the cover garments. The carrier seems like it was made to carry soft(light) armor. But never the less great review sir. Keep um coming.

Apparently they don't have an issue with the brace, but the intent of the user. If you plan to use as designed, no problem.
I have been lookin at spartan armor systems for a long time now and I think this video here just sold me lol.
Hey, you got old Serbian infantryman jacket, chevron and all, there were still some of those around while I was serving!
Every time I see you guys do an AR500 plate test, I lean closer and closer to buying some plates for my molle carrier. Great videos guys, keep it up, and Happy new year!
4:27 idk why the sound of the reverberating echo is so pleasing. I could picturing as the beat in some kind of dark ambient music.
That start was brilliant, I'd like to see more little skits like that, made me laugh.
You weren't kidding once you started putting them in there with the PSL lol...shot after shot in the same area... Nice video guys

What about 9x18 or 5.45x39 ?
5.45x39 might because it was designed to tumble around. But I'm positive 9x18 would NOT pass through
lynchlink01 Unless you get solid nose 5.45x39 I don't believe it would pass through because most of those (to my knowldege) are made with an air pocket in the nose, hence why they tumble on impact. lynchlink01 for AP purpose tumbling means nothing
its density and energy of the projectile that counts
Thank you, I didn't know that. That's very helpful. And I hope I'll remember that!

Awesome test! Love that PSL. And love the patch on your hat. It's clever.
We know that the steel core isn't what defeats AR500, it's velocity.
We knew how this was going to fare.
Cool though.

if you stop it at exactly 3:21 the plate looks like it has a skull outline where the bullets hit
Can we see psl on armor with the gel torso???
And wheres that PSO or POSP kalinka scope/mount at?!?
It's been a great year for IQ8888, can't wait for 2015 to start.
How about a test of the plate shot at an angle? Will the coating catch the bullet?
"You didn't really think I'll let Eric shoot me"
Me: actually chad I was kinda hoping he was gonna fill you with led
They should've done that with a (repainted) airsoft or a blank-pistol, the reactions would've been nice.
But on the other hand, they do it and then someone else does it with live rounds, so, good thing they didn't

Oh man, that's a Serbian military uniform jacket and army emblem! I guess we are exporting those as well as surplus, they are slightly different now... Well done and cheers from Serbia! :)
Nice video guys. always love to watch your stuff.
The bullets just look as if they ping off and seem so... docile.
That Spartan armour is awesome.
i laughed out loud when Eric closed his eyes pointing the pistol at him XD

Wow thats amazing, so many shots on the one spot and still didnt punch its way through!!
DANG, I thought that Roscoe would have a huge hole at the appendix where you stacked the rounds from rifle. That is a good piece of armor!
Wow. Color me surprised. I really thought the 54R was going to blast right through it. Nice armor. That 7.62X54R was pounding the hell out of it and it didn't fail.
Where did you get that Camo jacket? Super cool, I want to buy one!
Jaket was used by Jugoslavian National Army. You can probably buy one oneline.

I didn't think the light ball 54r was considered armor piercing, as it uses a mild steel core.
Do you think the PSL would penitrate at a closer range? That plate is very impressive.
I love when Eric turned his head too..haha..
When Eric turned away after Chad did, i just LOL! Haha, hilarious.
Lol somehow a iv88 vid i havent seen before. Hilarious intro guys. U should do more funny stuff like that.

Awesome job Guys!
I have been saving up for a PSL or VEPR. I hope they do a comparison some day.
Wonder if steel core rounds from a 30-378 wby mag would drill threw within 100 yards.
is the plate 3/8 or 1/2 inch ,great video for info,,thanks
I'll be looking for the PSL video, I have one with the same scope you have on yours.
holy shite! i thought there was going to be no way rosco survived that onslaught of red hot 7,62x54 steel that was rained upon him. kudos to the guys at spatan ,ar500 armour
the plate works very well. And if I could afford it I would buy one. However what about blunt force trauma?
Great video guys!! like always! 💥🔫
Eric, what kind of scope on the PSL 54C?
I like that jacket on chad. Where did you get it???!
I'm surprised to see them wearing jackets. I'm not use to it.
+BosleyBeats M89 uniform used by Jugoslavian Peoples Army. Try to find M93 uniform too. This two are very similar. They went through three wars...
Good video guys keep it up and also could you have a firearms facts to show witch is the best flash suppresser on ak47 and ak74
Performed better than I expected with the 54R. Does anyone know what the thickness of the coating was? Was the coating "standard thickness" or a special order?
WOW! I didn't thought the armour would resist the shots!
great videos guys, all though I would have liked to see a 5.45X39 shot at it. Keep them coming guys!
Thier are no videos of CQB level 3 armour testing on you tube. Most of us get plate carriers for home protection at close range. Is a green tip m855 going to burn through a spartan plate at 10 feet or in house distance? Do what you do, we want to know.
Might want to wear a plate your self on this one! Lol
Would like to see you shoot some AR 500 body armor with a S&W 460 mag with some solid ammo. Thanks !
is there body Armour that has room for plates that protect your sides ?
Can you shoot the level III plate with a 22-250, Hornady VMax, 50grain at 100 yards?
I was wondering what war was yours and Chad's?
Great video! I didn't know PSL had a bho after last shot. Anybody armor that's stops 54r has got to be good!
The IV88 crew needs to make a new shirt that says "The Anti-Spawling Coating did its job"
That AK he was shooting looked like a AKS-74U but he said it was 7.62x39m? Do they make AKS in 7.62? I thought they were 5.45
It’s a serbian one they are all in 7.62.
Serbian ones have three holes in the foregrip and russian two.
I want a soft armor base that covers the sides and put some steel or other hard plates in the front and rear. Might not help getting hit with rifle round in the side but it dang sure cant hurt.
That body armor has deffinetly saved lifes from high power ammunition :D Very impressive.
