    One of my all-time favourite pieces, we played this in a youth orchestra about 40 years ago - completely unforgettable experience. The flute solo in the second movement takes me straight back to that very happy time.

      Snap, though not 40 years ago - played with the Anglo-German Youth Music Week Orchestra which was set up post WW2 to engender cultural relationships between the 2 countries - it's now the European YMW and hopefully not affected by the insanity of Brexit! It's resulted in a few Anglo-German marriages over the years...

    There are so many wonderful moments in this piece; in this performance especially! The flute solo in the third movement is one of my favorites, and Clara played it so beautifully. It's not easy by any stretch. My other favorite moment is around 18:00 in the Marche... joyful and happy!!

    Never heard this piece before. It has a fantastical quality very evocative of the season and the times we are in. Guess it's time to put out the Halloween decorations!

    • @johnwalters1341
      @johnwalters1341 2 года назад +2

      The "fantastical quality" may partly be due to the fact that the themes started out as Chinese tunes orchestrated in the early 19th century by Carl Maria von Weber and then further transformed in the early 20th century by Paul Hindemith. Quite a musical journey!

    I would really like to know more about the principal oboist. Every time I hear him play, I think he is just incredible. He is my favorite of oboists that I have heard in recent times.

    9:04 OH, YEAH!!!! Timps should be well-blended with the orchestra - neither overpowering them nor behind the closet door, just in the ZONE!!! And THAT is the best version I've heard (since the one I played in '94!) ❤️😻❤️🥁

    One of the highest peaks of the whole European symphonic repertoire. I played it with an orchestra as a percussionist more than 40 years ago, and it was an amazing surprise to discover this superb masterpiece... Exactly at the same level as the best of Shostakovic's or Strawinsky's works. The capacity to mix perfectly old and new, respecting the tradition without forgetting the innovation. The instrumental arrangement is simply powerful because clear and adamant even in its complexity. All the orchestral sections are involved at the same level, and the percussion section has a central role in some topic moments. Great great music. To listen all life long. This version is superb. Compliments to the orchestra and the master chief.

      It seems to have a more focused - almost edgy tone quality; easily heard in the opening of Turandot. It fits perfectly with the bell notes. Interestingly, it does not have a B foot. Seems really well suited to piece ... especially when she is playing it.

    Wunderschöne und detaillierte Aufführung dieser perfekt komponierten sinfonischen Metamorphosen mit farbenreichen doch perfekt vereinigten Tönen aller Instrumente. Der intelligente und geniale Dirigent leitet das hoch funkitionelle Orchester im veränderlichen Tempo und mit künstlerisch kontrollierter Dynamik. Wahrlich inspirierend in dieser schwierigen Zeit unter der Coronavirus-Pandemie!
