One of my all-time favourite pieces, we played this in a youth orchestra about 40 years ago - completely unforgettable experience. The flute solo in the second movement takes me straight back to that very happy time.
Snap, though not 40 years ago - played with the Anglo-German Youth Music Week Orchestra which was set up post WW2 to engender cultural relationships between the 2 countries - it's now the European YMW and hopefully not affected by the insanity of Brexit! It's resulted in a few Anglo-German marriages over the years...
There are so many wonderful moments in this piece; in this performance especially! The flute solo in the third movement is one of my favorites, and Clara played it so beautifully. It's not easy by any stretch. My other favorite moment is around 18:00 in the Marche... joyful and happy!!
C’est un grand compositeur Hindemith
L’égal de Shostakovitch a mon sens
Ici formidablement bien interprété
Terrific exciting composition and what an orchestra 🎻🎵🎹🎼🎶🍸
What a brilliant piece of music!
So ein fantastischer Holzbläsersatz! Blechis natürlich auch ;)
Flutist, lovely playing, thank you. I am about to perform this with my orchestra and your playing inspires me.
Wonderful! I forget what a colorful orchestrater Hindemith was.I enjoy your performances so much...they are always welcome, but they’ve been a special bright spot this past year! Thanks!
Excellent performance and recording as always. Thanks from the USA!
Hindemith's most popular piece.
That ending is the bomb---always brings me to my feet.
Chapeau! Danke für diese wunderbare Einspielung!
This work is always a delight to hear, and all the more so in this great performance. (Whoever said Hindemith's music is dull and stuffy couldn't have heard this!)
In this case, Weber had something to do with it.
hear hear!
Je ne connaissais pas cette pièce. Mon seul commentaire sera :. Wwaooouhhhh ! Une merveille
Akkustisch und musikalisch grandios !
This song is so amazing that they are performing for a half empty auditorium!
Thank you. So beautiful! When everything comes together. Bravo!
A superb and quality upload. Many thanks for this treasure.
Most enjoyable! This performance made me wish I were playing with the orchestra.
Never heard this piece before. It has a fantastical quality very evocative of the season and the times we are in. Guess it's time to put out the Halloween decorations!
The "fantastical quality" may partly be due to the fact that the themes started out as Chinese tunes orchestrated in the early 19th century by Carl Maria von Weber and then further transformed in the early 20th century by Paul Hindemith. Quite a musical journey!
I would really like to know more about the principal oboist. Every time I hear him play, I think he is just incredible. He is my favorite of oboists that I have heard in recent times.
he is Nicolas Cock-Vassiliou. take a look at their site - link is in the description of the video.
I remember performing this piece with the British Youth Symphony Orchestra when I was a student. It was great fun to play.
The majestic comfortable feeling of this symphony is irreplaceable , and full of admiration and emotion
Excellent !
Wspaniałe. Dziękuję bardzo.
Hindemith💙 full of power and energy, esp. in this piece! Superb Performance by the hr orchestra👍👍
There are videos showing Hindemith rehearsing, very funny and interesting!
The delicious March- finale starts at 16.15 or so.
Greetings, with thanks, from east Anglia in England.
This is wonderful.
It's so wonderful!
14:48 she's amazing
The final movement always reminds me of a train bowling along then bursting out of a tunnel!
Чудесное выступление! Большое спасибо Франкфуртскому оркестру!
My favourite Hindemith!
9:04 OH, YEAH!!!! Timps should be well-blended with the orchestra - neither overpowering them nor behind the closet door, just in the ZONE!!! And THAT is the best version I've heard (since the one I played in '94!) ❤️😻❤️🥁
One of the highest peaks of the whole European symphonic repertoire. I played it with an orchestra as a percussionist more than 40 years ago, and it was an amazing surprise to discover this superb masterpiece... Exactly at the same level as the best of Shostakovic's or Strawinsky's works. The capacity to mix perfectly old and new, respecting the tradition without forgetting the innovation. The instrumental arrangement is simply powerful because clear and adamant even in its complexity. All the orchestral sections are involved at the same level, and the percussion section has a central role in some topic moments. Great great music. To listen all life long. This version is superb. Compliments to the orchestra and the master chief.
14:45 flute solo ❤
an electric performance
Clara Andrada: have you acquired a new flute? Your fan is curious.
I'd like to know as well.
I am used to hearing her on her golden flute. Is she just trying this one out, or does she plan to go with it in future concerts?
It seems to have a more focused - almost edgy tone quality; easily heard in the opening of Turandot. It fits perfectly with the bell notes. Interestingly, it does not have a B foot. Seems really well suited to piece ... especially when she is playing it.

I was reading Joyce so I thought why not Hindemith?
Sounds a bit like Mahler. 🤔🙂

This is not Berlioz? Really??
I assume the conductor's name is Turkish. Of course Hindemith first fled Nazism to Istanbul, where he taught music before going on to Yale.
Wer möchte gerne mit mir über Hindemith fachzimbeln?
Sinfonische Metamorphosen...IQ-47
Muy interesante, por eso es muchisisisisisisisimo más popular Beethoven que los dodecafonistas y demás coyotes.
I’m in Love with 2:39 ..... so handsome .... hit me up .....
You mean the 1st clarinet? :D
