Thanks for this series Ray! Its great to see somebody out there putting effort to make such videos in our relatively small community of digital modelers. Looking forward to see the completed model. I think 3x speed and slowing down to explain some bits is perfect. Hope to see you finish the series with some great renders in VRED/Blender.
Hi ray. Thankyou so much for sharing your philosphy. I have applied some of your phylosphical mindsed to my sketch modelling in blender and am currently transferring from blender to Alias.
Hi! I just found this video on my feed and in the first 10 minutes you answered all my questions that I've been asking everyone that I know they may have the answer for the past year! so I have to thank you for putting out such amazing content. I'm a CG artist working in Maya and I was looking for the right way to model a complex concept design that I did for practice. So... thank you again!
This is amazing for sure. I use Blender, and the modeling process used here could easily be used across platforms relating to their own tools to make designs, so I'm definitely going to give these techniques a try
HB3D i watched all 49 minutes of the video! Thank you so much for this . you really helped me break down the thought process in my mind. This is so GREAT!
Finally found a very good modeling and explanation session on RUclips. I'd like to get into concept car designs etc, and even though this isn't a "Blender" tutorial on "how to make a car", the general workflow and ideas are very helpful in being able to design my own renditions of concept cars. I personally don't mind these long videos, as they tend to be very informative, and I think that 3x speed is a great medium as it's not too fast either, so I was able to follow along quite nicely, thank you! Now it's time to watch the other parts, and most probably spend the rest of my day watching them haha 🙈😅😂
Thank you so much for this video. I've been trying to do concept car for a couple of months now, and being screwing up big time. This video is the only one that address the core issues. The initial 2D sketch has to be made accurately by someone first before it can be translated into 3D and surfacing. Blueprints on the internet are NOT concept sketches. They already exist. And that's exactly what concept is all about.
Thank you Ray for doing such a great series because I am currently trying to become a class A modeler this series will help me a lot. By end of this series I like to done my own model for my portfolio. I am eagerly waiting for the next video.
I love these over the shoulder views of your workflow. Always interesting to see old things done a new way. I know this is an older video now, but what stood out to me is the lack of seeing the actual tools youre using. Cant keep track when you dont use the pull down menus as you have everything hot-keyed. Hot-keys are awesome for work speed but those watching have a much harder time following. That said, for this particular video it isnt hard to follow as you use very simple tools pushing and pulling CVs but may be more important in more complicated situations.
That is great ! I've been watching ur video for a long time , ur tutorial did give me geat help for translating a sketch into model. THX! Can't wait to watch the next video!
So cool, thank you very much for sharing! I think one gets a pretty good idea of the workflow and to really follow through all steps, I think the speed makes sense. Looking forward to part 2!
Thank you very much dear friend, very instructive and informative! About modeling and sharing your experiences in professional environments. Very hard to find these insights about Auto design career. Hope to see more video in future!
Thank you!! For such a informative well guide video, enjoyed watching your approach towards design as a sketch modeller, looking forward to your next video's in this series!!👍🏻
I really like your videos! You are the best!. Record tutorials as much as possible. They really help to model correctly. Without mistakes. Thank you for the video . Always waiting for new videos from you. And I love to model in alias.
Thanks much for this video...♥️ Yeah u could make it to 1 hr video....if people wanna see this video soo soon...they could increase the playback speed ..
So helpful...love you!...the speed is perfect in my opinion, also transition between parts...and no, you don't talk that much,...and is very useful what you are saying...:)
By far the best instructive video i have seen in my 10+ years of working Alias. great stuff! would you be willing to share the wheel mockups? think that a lot of beginners would benefit from that starterpoint of basic geo. they magically appear in the video. i can build my own but maybe not all can :)
Absolutely, just like clay sculptors prefer modeling from render sketches. And freedom to adjust the design to capture the designer vision. I worked at Honda Powersports for 7 years....I barely learning this software now.
Hi Ray, Thank you for this tutorial series and for all other the previous one really appreciated. Just want to mention that the link for your prefs is not working on your website.
Ray it goes without saying, I think we all here would love to know your feeling on subD inside alias. It seems you are ignoring subD for now, do you plan to introduce them in your workflow at some point and how?
Cool video! My question i would be: how do you controll the indication of the cv's. I mean your do a new curve and afterwords the cv's disapear again. Is there any shortcuts or good way to handle this? My line models always look like a mess or i don't see anything..
nico you can change the degrees of the line in the control panel. I think I go more into this in the cell phone series and spaceship series. You can also hotkey the rebuild curve tool.
@Handlebar3D Would you consider drafting the wireframe in Rhino and importing the curves into Alias a viable workflow? I find Alias very tedious for creating supposedly simple line geometry, but I'm not sure to what extent there is a loss of data (read precision) in the transfering of the files.
Hi, I have question. How can I assign Square hotkey seperately like 3*3, 5*5? there is only one slot for square in hotkey stting box..Thank you in advance
Sorry for my English, using google translate I have been learning how to render different videos for two years. I would like to learn how to render tuned cars, make different parts, spaceships, etc. Does it make sense for me to learn architectural programs? I do this only for video, but I would like to be able to work in architectural software, but I do not know why I need it and if I need it at all.
If you are going into architecture I would focus on Rhino and Blender for your other 3d creation. Alias I would only learn for automotive and product design. Besides that it would be better for you to focus on Autocad, Rhino, and other 3d software specializing in architecture.
@@HandleBar3D thanks for the answer) I heard that the modeling is easier in architecture software, is that true? Will the topology of exported models be suitable for animations and similar processes?
Raymundo: Take time off, living my life, going out with my dog, hanging out with my girlfriend. Go and come back with fresh eyes Me in 2021 during pandemic: well yeah thats not gonna work
I’m in Cali, vaccinated, going out with my dog and my girlfriend even more. 😂 but I definitely know that’s not the reality for many people. I hope wherever you are it starts getting back to normal sooner than later.
Even when you translate from YOUR OWN sketches and 2D renderings into a 3D space, you are constantly making compromises to make the individual elements/ proportions/ etc. work together within the overall design. A great example in this video is the wheelbase differences between the profile-view and the front-quarter-view: the shortness of the profile-view wheelbase hinders the overall proportions of the vehicle, not unlike the original Audi Quattro Sport or 1970s Thunderbirds. The key to successful 3D translation is in your diligence to preserve the "feel" or "expressiveness" of the original ideas laid out in the sketch, and work towards making the ideas work in physical space~
as soon as i seen the wireframe .. i knew i came to the right place !!!! perfect !!

Watching this I’m convinced, that Alias modellers should be regarded just as much car designers, as sketchers 😮

Nice, logical beginning. Will you get feedback from Hanbin while working on this?
Yes :) after I block in the form I will send him renderings and he will do some renderings off that.
