When I saw Allan Holdsworth in 1984 at BYU, front row center, he played that dark red charvel with the black pickguard. Chad Wackerman on drums, Jimmy Johnson on Bass. I got to meet him, he signed my ticket Cheers! and his signature. I think Road Games came out around then.

I believe that the dark red Charvel, was on the cover of Guitar Player back in the day. I also met Allan in Cleveland in 1984 at a small music club. No one else around us for 20 minutes just shooting the shit about Eddie Van Halen, current guitarist and his hope about securing a record contract. A terrific memory with an idol!

Paul, thank you so much for coming on and telling your stories about EVH and for correcting memories from the movie. Michael Charvel actually told me about the movie when it was newly finished. I found it with a Spanish title on Tubi and told him where it was so he could watch it. Then, I tried to tell all of the guys in the VH YT community about it, but they didn't want to hear me, probably cuz girl. Omg! Please interview Slash! That would be next level! And I hope Wolfgang comes on at some point too! Great interview! Long Live King Edward!

I'm betting that the guy Dave was talking to who he said looked like a Cocaine dealer was Pete Angelus who at that time was his business partner as The Fabulous Picasso Brothers. He was considered, by the band, the fifth member of Van Halen before leaving the camp with Roth. He directed the Jump video and did a lot of creative things. He became persona non grata with the brothers. Roth ended up turning on him when his own career started and continued on a downturn. He was actually holding the Ampex board mixes in two boxes when I talked to Roth backstage in 1979, Logan, Utah. When he walked by, Roth said did you get it? He showed the two Ampex boxes that were underneath the lapel of his sport jacket. Roth smiled and said Alright!! Angelus seemed to be kind of like a slick rock business type not knowing who he was. I thought he was with the label since he had the tapes.

@@royalrockfilms it's interesting how far back he worked with Dave and when things started to go South, Dave wrote him out of the History. The Picasso Brothers would make a hell of an Indy Film told by Angelus.

@@bradhardisty1652you would be surprised at what he doesn’t have, as well as what he DOES have! He also has a lot of reels of rare cuts and mixes from bands he likes. He has a rough mix of “pet sounds”… that was VERY interesting to hear!
Nowhere near the capacity of Ed’s tape storage though!!!

    Are you from Birmingham?
I heard you talking about Damon. I was in a band called Kaos back when Damon was in a band called Chinatown and they would play Al’s Crossroads one week and we would play the next.
I was wondering if you were around that scene.

How much do those early 80's Charveles go for. I can't event find one on ebay or anything.
What model is a good representation of that era.

Depends? If It's a 100% original and in good shape You could get maybe $10k-$15k to the Right collector. Last one that I seen that was certified Sold for 9k a few Year's back. A Good reassue like the Nitro relic series or the Legacy(I own one of these) goes for $5k

The single humbucker with a graphic strat style with a brass vintage trem is the most representative Charvel guitar.

A guitar I played with in the 80’s still has his two original Charvel’s that he bought at the old shop in Glendora and he never sold them. He later went into finance and made millions but to this day, they are his prized possessions and he will never sell them. Can’t imagine what they’re worth now.
