  • The Kansas City Chiefs overcame a double-digit lead to defeat the Philadelphia Eagles 38-35 for the franchise's third Super Bowl win. Patrick Mahomes is the third player to win multiple MVP and Super Bowl MVP awards. He threw for 182 yards and three touchdowns, along with 44 rushing yards and no turnovers. However, one big story line on top of Mahomes' performance was the Eagles defense, who struggled, especially in the second half. The biggest talk of Super Bowl LVII was the flag on James Bradberry for holding JuJu Smith-Schuster that led to a game-winning field goal. Colin Cowherd explains why the Super Bowl proved Philly's defense was only 'good against bad QBs.' which led to the call.

Hurts was amazing. I give credit to their game plan as well. The first half was executed perfectly. If the Chiefs had any time of possession in that first half I felt like the game would have been 50 to 20-30. Not taking anything away from Hurts he was an absolute stud and needs to get paid. I think if TOP was even Mahomes would have had 3-400 yards hurts would have been 180-250. I’ve liked the Eagles for a long time. Ever since their last SB. I’ll definitely be pulling for them every year in the NFC now. Hopefully they can keep it together. That’s from a lifetime Chiefs fan. @pdst3. I believe the Eagles offensive line was BEASTLY against the Chiefs in both halves. Every time they needed short yardage they got it as that Jason Kelce led O-line pushed the Chiefs D-line and company completely off the line of scrimmage every time they needed a 1st down. They were impressive. As far as the Eagles defensive line is concerned, I felt they were pretty good in the 1st half, but they weren't on the field much as the Eagles controlled the ball for most of the first 2-quarters. 2nd half was a bit different but that's because of what Colin reported with this piece IMO. I don't blame the Eagles D-line for this loss, I would be more inclined to point to the defensive secondary of the Eagles instead. Chiefs receivers were getting open pretty often in that game, and the Chiefs coaching staff knew going into the game that the Eagles defensive line was formidable. So Andy Reid and Eric Biennemy designed plays to counter that fearsome pass rush and blitz combo. Keep the faith: the Eagles are gonna be really good for quite a while now and I wouldn't rule out them returning to the Super Bowl NEXT February and winning it. Who in the NFC is going to stop them?
NOTHING to be ashamed of in that game yesterday. Could've gone either way.

The Chiefs got in one of those zones they get in in a lot of big games in the second half. It happened in the Super Bowl they won over the 49ers. 21 points in the 4th quarter. This Super Bowl was the mirror image: 17 points in the 4th quarter, and could've been 21 if they'd have wanted to punch it in late and didn't wisely hook slide and set up the FG. They do this when they're down. They get rolling and it quickly becomes an avalanche.
When they get rolling, no one can stop them. The way you beat them is to stop that roll from starting. How you do that, no one knows.

Forget the dropped passes, the previous penalties at critical moments, or the overturned calls; lets just remember the last call that you determined was pivotal to your team losing the championship game. Forget that it was a proper call. I absolutely love watching any sports from the stands (or TV) and second guessing the calls made on the field, especially while I have had a few. It is the only profession in the world where everyone can critique you on a split second decision and it is always up for review by millions of people.

As an Eagles fan, the defensive scheme is the problem. Can't just play 2 deep zone all game. Teams just throw across the middle or just throw 5 yard routes. Also, it's easier to run the football. Eagles have gotten away with it this year because we had 70+ sacks all season. But just like the Dallas/Washington games, Kansas City dink and dunk on our zone defense all game.
It was the same problem last year, we were last in sacks and that's why our defense was below average in 2021. Defense plays well against QBs like Daniel Jones, Wentz, Kirk Cousins, and rookie QBs. But against Mahomes, Brady, and even Dak. Our defense gets carved up.

@@butchgood183 "What's that tell you about the Chiefs?"
Uh, it tells me that it doesn't matter that they won by 3, Chiefs still won.
You bring up the fact that KC beat them by 3 pts after a "ticky tacky" call (which btw isn't even ticky tacky because Bradberry HIMSELF admitted he held on the play), but not the fact that the Eagles blew a 24-14 halftime lead? 🤔
What does THAT tell you about the Eagles?

Next season Is going to prove if the eagles were truly legit or not and I'm saying this as an eagles fan who wants to prove the world wrong. As a regard to next years schedule playing the AFC East , LA Rams, Rematches with KC Chiefs in Kansas City and the Niners, along with our division obviously which isn't a cakewalk so all this talk about the legitimacy of the Philadelphia Eagles comes to an end with a winning record in the reg.season, being a top 2 seed in the conference, and getting back to a least the NFC Title Game or at the max back to the SB. I think this Eagles team was legit and just maximized on their opportunities this season you don't get to the Superbowl by luck and it's hard to wrap up wins in the NFL so next season I'm really looking forward to unfinished business and I think this teams has a huge chip on it's shoulder and is gonna chomping at the bit to prove the doubters wrong.

As an Eagles fan, I couldn’t allow myself to buy the Eagles defensive hype this year. The point was made… against even some what good QB’s Gannon schemes the immense talent on that roster in the worst possible way. Literally allows the defense to get carved up with zero adjustments. The talent covered up just how bad Gannon is, and any true eagles fan has wanted him gone since last year! He’s horrible. Hats off to chiefs though!

Can we talk about how great that KC O-Line is? 3 Pro Bowlers. Didn’t let Eagles D-Line get to Mahomes and opened holes for Pacheco to run through all night.
I was hoping Eagles would win, but Chiefs made a couple more big plays than they did. Can’t get too mad on that PI call on Bradberry. I still think it was a great season for Philly despite not playing great teams up to this point(also how many great teams were there in ‘22? 4? Maybe 5?)

In the week leading up to the Super Bowl the eagles fans were like 16 year boys looking in their muscles in a mirror. All they did was self admiration. All the talk was about how many sacks they were going to get. Nobody gave the chiefs d any respect. 7 rookies and they shut down the eagles run game. Chiefs defense is about to get very very stout. This was a total team win and Patrick mahomes was badly hurt. Special teams almost scored. Defense had 1 (should have been 2) scores. Greatest team of the ghetto league. That I’ll give you.

Make no mistake. KC had 3 possessions in the 1st half. TD, missed FG (drive should've been extended with 1st hold of Bradbury on JuJu), and the drive that Mahomes re-aggravated his ankle. Philly had no answer for KC what so ever. The Chiefs just manhandled the Eagles in the trenches and that was ultimately what won the game. And the 2 Philly FGs. KC also played complimentary football on all 3 phases in the 2nd half
