Thanks for watching I do notice that grass is definitely greener than it used to be to be. In the past grass on the side of roads wasn’t so manicured, so it would be taller and more hay breeds (which would look browner) With cities cutting the grass and keeping it lower, that allows different breeds to thrive. Now it looks greener and that breed becomes dominant. Where as in the past you would want more hay varieties for livestock and that grass would spread. I saw the movie (as well as many others) at the Jonesboro Twin which was in the North Main Plaza just north of the car wash. The structure is still there, but I don't know if it's in use. Thanks for watching and for the comment. I didn’t know that about the car wash. I remember in the 80s there was a guy living in that area always walking around with a shopping cart. Never realized that building was a car wash. Also I didn’t say it in the video but I seem to remember there being 2 of the yellow car wash buildings there. However when I watch the movie I only see one (probably just a bad recollection from being a little kid back then)
@@1870offroad The OLD Hickory House where the sheriff ordered a Diablo sandwich was in Forest Park near Georgia Power I ate there a few times as a kid its long gone now Georgia has changed so much.
Excellent video. Glad you’re keeping the memories alive. I stayed with my aunt and uncle that summer in Ellenwood Ga. Never knew that one of my all time favorite movies was being filmed nearby. Also my parents moved to Social Circle during the time The Dukes of Hazzard was being filmed in Covington Ga which is nearby. That’s crazy some of my favorite shows and movies were filmed closed to my childhood homes and I never got see any of it. lol
Awesome I’m glad you found enjoyment from the video. It’s ironic that I grew up around Jonesboro and my little brother moved to social circle when he got married (he’s in Madison now)
@@LoneWolf-cf5tp I don’t even remember Mr donut. Must’ve been gone by the time I came up, I was born early 80s. There was the Krispy Kreme in riverdale and a Dunkin across the street. That the only 2 we ever went to
Awesome, I’ve had a few Camaros and firebirds (but never a bandit TA). Always been a gear head, had several cool cars over the years. Movies like this, Bullet, gone in 60 seconds, NASCAR probably had a lot to do with it
Funny, you zoomed in on my dad in his truck. He told me before he died that he flipped them off and you could still see it in some edits. When they brought it back out at theaters for the last big anniversary I went to see it to confirm … and sure enough, he did flip them off. 😂
I grew up in College Park and had a '77 black and gold TA back 30+ years ago. I use drive all through Riverdale, Jonesboro and never thought about taking a picture of the car at the location when everything still looked the same. That picture of the dugout (my profile pic) was taken by a girl i went to high school with.
Thanks for watching. Sounds like an amazing car. That would’ve been an awesome picture. But something like that, you don’t realize how special the moment could be until years later. I’m loving doing this RUclips stuff, I hope it last for many years to come and offers a way to share memories with future generations
I did this "tour" in June 2023 when I drove to GA by myself with camera in tow and was fortunate to meet a guy in Jonesboro that lived there when they were filming Smokey. He showed me the exact spot where the house once stood. This video is past the actual spot by about 20 - 30 Yards.
Hmm never realized that, I’ll have to look it up. when we do the tour next year I’ll call it the correct name! Same here, it’s a great movie. Thanks for the info
Awesome video. It's cool to see someone that knows the area break it down. The truck stop where the bandit gets gas is at pleasant hill and 85n! That's the only area I know
The area where Sheriff Buford pulls off and the trooper confronts him looks like it's actually a couple of hundred feet further down the road in front of a car wash at 7740 N Main St in Jonesboro judging by the roofline of not only the building directly in the background but the slopped roof on the one just off to the left.
@@1870offroad - Pretty darn close but you certainly did a wonderful job of highlighting many other places like the pond. I knew a lot was filmed in Jonesboro but until your video, didn't realize how many scenes were filmed in such close proximity.
I've driven all around this town but not to this town. Used to live in LaGrange. I didn't mind it too bad being out in the sticks but it was pre-internet and there wasn't much to do, if you wanted to go shopping you had to haul up to Atlanta.
I am originally from Texarkana and it is amazing how similar the scene locations that they used actually look just as if they are in Texarkana. They released Smokey And The Bandit at the Joy Twin Movie Theatre for its first release showing in Texarkana Texas ( Nash ) and we went to see it on the first day, first showing and then again a couple of more times within the next two weeks after. It is my all time favorite movie and 77-78 ( second generation ) Trans Am’s are of course my favorite cars. Kenworth tractors are my favorite rigs ( I am a truck driver ) and of course this movie had multiples of my favorite actors- Burt, Sally, Jerry, Jackie. I have seen this movie at least 200 times and plan to watch it many many more- can’t get enough. If anybody is interested, there are also other movies filmed in and about Texarkana that are true stories. 1.- The Legend Of Boggy Creek ( which I grew up in Genoa and lived on highway 82 and went to school in Genoa right next to Fouke Arkansas that highway 71 runs right through, which Fouke is the setting in this movie, but I was born on the Texas side of Texarkana.) 2.- The Town That Dreaded Sun Down. Ya’ll should check these 2 movies out sometime.
That’s awesome, I’ve never been to Texarkana but I plan to pass through there in a few years when I go to Moab. I hear it’s not as nice as it used to be, I’ve also heard it’s a fairly big town even though it’s regressed in recent years. Cool to know the similarities with Jonesboro ga. The train station is also the cover of a Lynyrd Skynyrd album from the same year
This is a great video. The only disappointment is learning that nothing was actually filmed in Arkansas where I grew up. Burst my childhood bubble a bit.
@@michaelmccarroll5946 sadly true of many movies. Thanks for the comment and compliment. I was similarly disappointed to learn there is no such place as Deeson county Arkansas 😂
I’ve never noticed that, I’ll have to go back and rewatch the scene. They used 76 Trans Ams modified to look like 77s. I think they used 4, maybe the wheels were different on one of them? Good eye
Good job showing how many scenes were filmed close together. I always noticed the Decent County Arkansas police roadblock scene has a sign in the background that says Clayton County homes. When you do the next one in 2025, could you add the nearest street address for the places you visit at three bottom of the screen?
When will you do an update including Cleveland, Georgia scenes? A lot of it was filmed in the Cleveland area too. My Uncle was Mayor of Cleveland at the time. He was able to acquire one of the less damaged Firebirds used in the movie.
That’s awesome!! I recently filmed a couple scenes in Helen, cumming, and McDonough. Not as detailed as this video I’m aiming to have that video edited by spring time
All those firebirds were crushed at Auto Crushers of GA in Conley. GM sent a man to watch them all be crushed. They didnt meet EPA rules and GM didnt want the serial numbers getting out
I could be wrong but it looks like the trans am has those 76 composite rims instead of the classic snowflake rims in that scene where the sign says Texarkana.
The cars were 76’s not 77’s. They changed them to look like 77s because the movie was filmed in the summer of 76 but it was to take place in 77 (to the best of my understanding)
Smokey and the Bandit 1977 is one of my favorite Movies of all time. Thank you so much for sharing this video I love watching Smokey and the Bandit Then And Now Filming Location. I can’t believe they removed the snowman’s house that was sad I was so surprised. But there’s one thing you forgot to film the shot it was when Burt Reynolds and Sally Field went to a swamp area when Burt Reynolds said to Frog “You wanna starche your legs”( Do you know where in Georgia that scene was shot.
Thanks for watching, there are several locations of that movie being lost to progress. That scene was filmed at Unicoi state park in Helen ga. That walking bridge is gone but there’s a new one going over the creek now. I was in Helen just a few weeks ago, filmed a little for the next Video. Unfortunately we ran out of time and didn’t make it to Unicoi park, we’ll hit it again in the future

Good video my friend , question what ever became of the snowman's eighteen wheeler truck with the beautiful paint job ??? THANK YOU FRANK FROM MONTANA....
From what I heard they actually used 2 different trucks for filming. There’s slight difference in the paint jobs, gas tanks, and a few emblems. I never heard what happened to them. There are some replicas I’ve seen in Georgia a few times. They do a ride called “snowman’s run” maybe one day they’ll come through Montana?
The hickory house is gone (I wanna say it was in forest park), I’ve heard there’s a new one in Tucker Ga. But personally I’ve never been nor seen it. Thanks for watching
Thanks watching and for the comment. I would love to use more of the movie. The problem is copyrights, I’m not 100% certain how many clips of the movie I can legally use (and how long). I try to keep each clip under about 5 seconds, seems to work so far. I’d love to get some kind of licensing to where I could use entire scenes from the film and match it up
Jonesboro Ga. The entire movie is filmed in Georgia, to the best of my knowledge. (Except for 1 scene that was a reshoot in LA) Jonesboro is about 20 minutes south of Atlanta. It’s mostly filmed in Jonesboro, Cumming, Helen, McDonough, and Riverdale. All Georgia
One thing is for sure as time goes on things get and worse and worse. God I pray someone invents a time machine so I can go back to the 1950s and live out the rest of my years from then. As a Canadian, I will die before the mass third-world immigration when my country was still a majority Christian European-based place with English flags and food and North American cars and smoking anywhere you want no political correctness when you could afford a nice house on a blue-collar wage where the green spaces were pristine and Canadians were proud and patriotic. When men were men and the ladies were glad about it. Beer and smokes were cheap and people were cool and had manners. Drive-in movies real steaks real burgers. Hell, we could hop in the car and go camping without a freakin reservation those were the days great music beautiful fast cars great TV shows and so on.
Guys you left out so many important scenes. I grew up in gwinnett cty and watched many of the scenes , you left out so many scenes filmed on hwy 400 and north Georgia. What's up guys.
For this video we only hit the Jonesboro area filming locations. We are hoping to do a Helen video, maybe this winter? Ironically I was on Ga 400 a few weeks ago and filmed it but I haven’t started the editing process yet.
The house across from Snowmans house in the movie was owned by TT Ford, He and Mrs Ford were the people on the porch. They went to our church. Jonesboro Presbyterian. The "beer warehouse" was Mr Fords garage. Clayton County was a dry county and did not allow any beer or wine sales until well into the 80s. I remember working with the Chamber of commerce to get it allowed. Waynes was a 5 & Dime not a grocery store. I knew him too. Same street used in Movin on too (TV Show). Today Clayton County is a 3rd world country with a corrupt superior court that is involved in organized crime and racketeering. I am a victim. Laws ignored to steal a $630,000 property from my Dad's estate. It has financially destroyed my life and credit. Nobody cares
Sorry to hear that. My family was from around there but most of them moved away decades ago. It’s went down hill even in the 90s, it seems to have gotten worse since My dad grew up off of Valley hill rd. They had B&B sanitation and B&B campers around the time of the movie was filmed. My mom was off of turner rd. I wasn’t around yet when the movie was made. I remember watching as a little kid and everything mostly looked like it didn’t in the movie
Why did they tear these buildings down for no reason? They would've made a fortune in tourism from preserving these iconic buildings. It's not as though Georgia has many tourist attractions. Insanity.

I am pretty sure I went fishing one time were the car jumped the bridge also when I was a kid thanks for the video!
One of the best and funniest movies (EVER) !!! Sure miss seeing jerry reed too !! 👍👍
One of my favorites
Excellent video. Glad you’re keeping the memories alive. I stayed with my aunt and uncle that summer in Ellenwood Ga. Never knew that one of my all time favorite movies was being filmed nearby. Also my parents moved to Social Circle during the time The Dukes of Hazzard was being filmed in Covington Ga which is nearby. That’s crazy some of my favorite shows and movies were filmed closed to my childhood homes and I never got see any of it. lol
Awesome I’m glad you found enjoyment from the video.
It’s ironic that I grew up around Jonesboro and my little brother moved to social circle when he got married (he’s in Madison now)
@@1870offroad Is there still a Mr. Donut ? I can’t remember if it was Jonesboro or Forest Park. We used to go there every time I visited. lol
@@LoneWolf-cf5tp I don’t even remember Mr donut. Must’ve been gone by the time I came up, I was born early 80s.
There was the Krispy Kreme in riverdale and a Dunkin across the street. That the only 2 we ever went to
Im from Ellenwood too. Lived on Grant Rd before it became an industrial park.
Good job on the redo. That was my favorite movie. Even bought a Trans Am and later a Peterbilt.
Awesome, I’ve had a few Camaros and firebirds (but never a bandit TA). Always been a gear head, had several cool cars over the years.
Movies like this, Bullet, gone in 60 seconds, NASCAR probably had a lot to do with it
Bandit-I wonder what they do here?
Snowman-Probably watch the cars rust.
😂
Funny, you zoomed in on my dad in his truck. He told me before he died that he flipped them off and you could still see it in some edits. When they brought it back out at theaters for the last big anniversary I went to see it to confirm … and sure enough, he did flip them off. 😂
Hahahaha,
I’ll be looking for it when I go back and rewatch the movie
Impressive knowledge and well put together video!
Thanks
Great video
Thank you,
it’s a great movie
Good tip, I’ve never seen the house. I was a little kid when it was gone.
Was it 20-30 yards towards the tracks or away?
Thanks! I’ve been to several of those locations.
Glad you enjoyed it
I really enjoyed the video was ten years old when it came out awesome movie.
Thank you. I’m glad you enjoyed the video
I believe that's Deeson county Arkansas 😁 Great show fellas... Huge S&B guy here! Used to have every word memorized! 😂
That's the only area I know
Glad you enjoyed it, we’re gonna film one up on the north side one day. Hopefully hitting Helen while the leaves are down
The area where Sheriff Buford pulls off and the trooper confronts him looks like it's actually a couple of hundred feet further down the road in front of a car wash at 7740 N Main St in Jonesboro judging by the roofline of not only the building directly in the background but the slopped roof on the one just off to the left.
@@joed9491 yeah it was, I stood in front of the building next to the correct one
@@joed9491 but I was going off of memory there. Didn’t even catch it until someone sent me the address
It’s amazing some of the places I’ve been that were less than 20 minutes away and I didn’t know it
Very interesting
The train station is also the cover of a Lynyrd Skynyrd album from the same year
A nice, well done video.
Thanks
Fred went swimming in Mr Edgar Blaylock's pond. That was his house too
This is a great video.
Aweomse video
Thanks
Fun fact snowman’s wife was named Wynette because Burt was dating Tammy Wynette at the time. 1:44
That’s cool, I had no idea
Thanks for the comment
wow great,..thanx
You’re welcome, thanks for watching and commenting
Looks like the trans am changed wheels from Texarkana line to the beer warehouse, honeycomb to snowflake
That’s a good idea,
Yes you can even see the Willows bend neighborhood sign behind the sherif. The neighborhood is still there
When will you do an update including Cleveland, Georgia scenes?
Aww thank you so for much for the Location: Unicoi Park I really appreciate Because I’m going to Georgia their with my brother this April 17 for 4 days and to check out Smokey and the Bandit Filming Location. Burt Reynolds, Sally Field, Jerry Reed, and Jackie Gleason were Awesome.
@@Prince.15306 only a few scenes are filmed in the Helen area. Most of the movie was filmed in Jonesboro ga.
Have fun, April is a great time of year to visit. Warm days, still cool at night
@@1870offroadAww Thank you so much you as well. 🎉😊😊
The trailer itself could actually be seen as an Easter egg in an early episode of the walking dead abandoned along a Georgia highway
Seems like all the play in GA
Yeah lately a lot of stuff is filmed around here.
Love all this trivia. Smokey and The Bandit is also my favorite movie of all time. Is the local "choke and puke" diner also in that same area?
The hickory house is gone (I wanna say it was in forest park), I’ve heard there’s a new one in Tucker Ga. But personally I’ve never been nor seen it.
Thanks for watching
Nice job, but you should have used more of the movie for reference.
Thanks watching and for the comment.
I would love to use more of the movie. The problem is copyrights, I’m not 100% certain how many clips of the movie I can legally use (and how long). I try to keep each clip under about 5 seconds, seems to work so far.
I’d love to get some kind of licensing to where I could use entire scenes from the film and match it up
I can dig it.@@1870offroad

How many trans am did they go through in this movie? Good editing by the way. I never knew this movie was filmed in Jonesboro ga
Thanks
To the best of my knowledge they used 4 transams and they were all in bad shape by the time they finished filming
No, they don’t mention Smoky and the Bandit in the sign article.
Sadly they didn’t, I didn’t read it while filming. I took a picture and read it after I was home
"why do you want that beer so bad ?"... "because he's thirsty, dummy"
50 years later and still a very quotable movie
Sir, do you live near this town/area?
Not anymore, I lived there many years ago
Hard to believe that movie is almost 50 years old
Sure is
Where those flags are that was a national pride car wash, I was there and I was 16 when they filmed smoking the bandit in Jonesboro
That’s cool,
And surprisingly it still looks somewhat similar on Hwy 3 right there.
The white house behind the pond my wife used to clean the house for the old couple
Nice! Small world
Was the Jonesboro Arkansas or Louisiana?
Jonesboro Ga.
The entire movie is filmed in Georgia, to the best of my knowledge. (Except for 1 scene that was a reshoot in LA)
Jonesboro is about 20 minutes south of Atlanta.
It’s mostly filmed in Jonesboro, Cumming, Helen, McDonough, and Riverdale. All Georgia
@@1870offroadThe scene where Buford cane out with the toilet paper on his glasses was filmed at the old hickory house in Forest park
@@donsummerour8065 that area has changed a lot!, they recently redid old Dixie on the north side of 285
One thing is for sure as time goes on things get and worse and worse.
Definitely don’t feel as free as we used to be
Why would Burt Reynolds fake Texas in Georgia instead of going to the real thing?
He lived in Georgia then. A lot of his movies were filmed around here during that period
It’s went down hill even in the 90s, it seems to have gotten worse since
My dad grew up off of Valley hill rd.
Insanity.
@@h.i.m3646 it really would, unfortunately many of these locations have been gone for decades
