2:17. The phrase 'beat around the bush'; we use as 'peck a bush to bring out a snake' . This means 'to do what you don't have to' for us/indigenous people.
10:09. The phrase 'down to earth'; we, also, express our phrase one's bare foot being on the ground.
Thank you for your useful phrase/expression.

    Hi teacher!
I am learning English myself. My English level is around A2.
I have problems with nouns [c,u]. When I look up the dictionary I understand the meaning of single words and understand the meaning of example sentences. The problem is that I don't really understand whether the nouns in those examples are countable or uncountable. There are very basic words that are nouns [c,u], for example:
    afternoon [c,u]
She works three afternoons a week at the library. [c]
He's been in a bad mood all afternoon.
    advantage [c,u]
It gives you an unfair advantage. [c]
She had the advantage of a good education.
    age [c,u]
I'd guess she's about my age.
    We're the same age.
She was 74 years of age when she wrote her first novel.
He left home at the age of 16.
The show appeals to people of all ages. [c]
    analysis [c,u]
a detailed analysis of the data [c]
We made the decision based on our analysis of the situation.
    April [c,u]
    She was born in April.
The meeting is on the fifth of April.
We went to Japan last April.
I arrived at the end of April.
    banana [c,u]
    a bunch of bananas [c]
    mashed banana
    a banana skin/peel
    bed [c,u]
He lived in a room with only two chairs, a bed and a table. [c]
He likes to have breakfast in bed on a Saturday morning.
She didn't get out of bed till lunchtime today.
    I'm exhausted - I'm going to bed.
    beer [c,u]
    a pint of beer
Would you like another beer? [c]
    life [c,u]
All risk to human life should be.
He risked his life to save his daughter from the fire.
    The operation saved her life.
Hundreds of lives were threatened when the building collapsed. [c]
    breakfast [c,u]
What do you want for breakfast?
    Have you had breakfast?
Breakfast is served in the dining room between 8.30 and 10.
    cake [c,u]
    chocolate cake
Would you like a piece of/a slice of cake?
    He made/baked a delicious cake. [c]
    change [c,u]
There was no change in the patient's condition overnight.
I need to make some major changes in my life. [c]
She is someone who hates change.
    class [c,u]
My last class ends at 4 o'clock.
I was told off for talking in class.
Who takes/teaches your environmental studies class?
I missed my aerobics class yesterday.
I understand the meaning of the above sentences very easily, but I don't understand when it is countable or uncountable. I only know a countable noun when I see it in the plural form or with a quantity word -> I put [c] next to that sentence. I spend a lot of time speaking or writing a sentence related to this type of noun. It's really hard to understand.
Can you make a video to teach this kind of noun? There are so many nouns like this. How can learners learn them?

    2. Look mr. West, i'm not gonna beat around the bush that advance English is making puzzling without a crystal clear explanation, you explained them to us so well.😁
    3. When it comes to speak English, the next best thing that i obligatory to do is speak English with Cici Ai, sorry mr west i'm broke i couldn't join your speaking course i'm a free sources young guy with zero dollar.😂
    4. From time to time lods of lods people said learning Japanese is not a rocket science but for me its esier said than done.
    5. I can tell the difference between American and british accent, i have an ear for for those two accents How about you?🙂
    6. Most of the people In Indonesia are behind the times they unwelcome to the touriest if those people taking over the place here or make uncessary promotion concerning on global products as indonesian i'd like to say sorry this is the factual thing Indonesian citizens are lame, they should be educated to respect tourist make a scene for things that considered normal is inapropriate.🤦🏽‍♂️🙇🏽‍♂️
    7. I'm someone that can be down to earth when it comes to sharing snacks with my relatives however i can be emotional if i cried over spilled milk about my life i should learn to get a grip.🥺
    8. When we prone to make mistakes in life we should face the music, it is what it is.😒
    9. My mama always slaming the bone every week so that we could fullfill our needs, poor people needs to make ends meet for food, i'm grateful for my life.😇
    10. Our black speakers for enjoying the music online go hand in hand with the two black mics that my mama bought two years ago.😎
    11. For the most part i've never ready for the challenge in English subject like this however now i'm up for it. What do you think?🤗
    12. I've had enough for the uncessary news that being reviewed on tv they are too negative concerning on western people who are living in Bali. Do they think they are impaccable people? who often judge a book by it's cover, some Indonesian well known for their close mindedness, such a shame.😒
    My thoughts on the lesson:
Your lesson full of unexpated thinngs for example when you explaining certain snarios on your mind the best thing about your channel you chin us up with your uplifting words that need to be heard, giving motivation is needed the students needed as well eh? What's your thought on it? I appologise once again for the inconvinient statement that i conveyed even though that is just an example, i feel sorry for them out there who treated unfairly here.😟

Hi, Wes! How's it going today? Hope that all's well on your end. Thanks for this another great advanced vocabulary video - well done! I just can't seem to recall whether I already asked you this question, but what’s the difference between the phrases "more importantly" and "most importantly"? Can they be used interchangeably? Appreciate your reply on this when you get a breather. Thanks very much, and all the best!

Have you ever heard about Anki ? A free application that uses a system of memorization that uses a concept of card front and back.I think that's perfect to implement with these expressions because you can put audio with so we'll know it sounds like and the phrase. And in the back of the card the meaning of the sentence like an explanation

Beat around the bush: you have already taught this one. I've been watching your videos since covid pandemic started. You already have a video on this. It was an outdoor video, to the best of my remembrance. We want new things in your newest videos. Please avoid repeating dear Wes. Hope I didn't annoy you😊.

I think I have an ear for accents too. Like I can pick them apart and even in a language I'm not very fluent I can kind of tell some dialects apart. Also I noticed it when I could easily sing a song while others are tone deaf and would not even notice it.

Thanks a lot. Learning vocabulary has always been a thing easier said than done for me but your lessons are really helping. May I ask if we can use these phrases in our writings or are they too informal to do so?

    • @InteractiveEng
      @InteractiveEng  Год назад

I'm happy to hear that. As for writing, it depends on who your audience is. If it's academic writing, I'd avoid using idioms. 👍

I have an important question for you my dear teacher.. What's the difference between Advanced Phrases and Idioms?

    • @InteractiveEng
      @InteractiveEng  Год назад +6

Thanks for your comment. Idioms are considered phrases because there are two or more words. But what makes it an 'idiom' is that the words together have a different meaning than the individual words. 👍
