I scanned both sides of the board and printed them both off, slightly enlarged, on A3 paper. I glued them back to back and had them laminated. So I get a bigger board and it lies flat. For travel I will keep teh original board, but for home use, I prefer the new one.
Thank you for the counter argument. I'd argue that gaining runes will always put you in a better position both for scoring and triggering rune actions, so those battles matter. Especially with just 15 turns. But I totally appreciate that the scoring system may not be everyone's glass of mead.

I think having scoring only at the end of the game was a HUGE misstep. The rest of the game feels like random jockeying
