To me this particular modifier only makes sense after rolling the dice, contrary to the tonic example, that clearly depicts the advantage beforehand. My 2 cents.

Just did my first playthrough and completely missed the fact that I could leave the room if I started my turn with an enemy there! It slowed me down so much.
Hey! Thanks for the video! One question though about the "invisibility" spell; can you first spend your character's movement and THEN use the invisibility spell even if your movement has ended for a reason? (e.g. you ran out of speed or you stumbled onto an enemy)
For your "successful spell" rule, does "cast a spell" mean "successfully cast a spell"? Specifically for the Phoenix legendary set it says whenever you cast a spell add focus depending on how many items of the set you have. Do i get that focus: A. When i attempt to cast the spell (regardless of success or failure) B. When I pass the intellect check (regardless of whether i then pay the focus for the spell; e.g. for Fireball if i pass the 7 intellect required, but dont pay the 6 focus). C. When i cast a successful spell i.e. i pass the intellect check AND pay the focus for the spell. ?
So the successful spell rule is just if there is a 'green check mark' on the ability. So as for the item set, it is as soon as you attempt to cast the spell that you gain the extra focus. So option A. So you CAN use that focus to change to dice to make it successfull. I hope that makes sense.
I see many people walking after playing a heroic action but i think in rules says that when you walk in a room with enimies and when you did a heroic action, I can't move out from here.
That is correct, if you walk into a room that has an enemy, or spawns an enemy, that ends you movement. Also, when doing a heroic action it will end your movement. However, if you start your turn with an enemy you CAN move out. And if you haven't started you move action, you can do a heroic action and THEN move.
@@BoardGameOfficer How can we tell that you can start your move after a heroic action? From the manual, it looks like it ends your movement even if you haven't moved yet.
@@happyjolteon that’s a good question, I can see the confusion. However on page six of the rulebook it states the 3 things you can do on a turn: move, heroic action, free actions. Above the list it states that you can do anything of these in ANY order. So that means you can do your heroic action first and then choose to do you move action second.
Your videos made me re-visit the game, and I've just bought like the last playmat in Europe for 40€ plus 61€ shipping :D.. I don't know why I hesitated when I had a chance during the KS, I guess 30€ was too much for me then lol... I'm cursed

@@BoardGameOfficer I have a question (couldn't search it anywhere): "same room" icon, I know it means "target is in the same room", but does it mean only one hero would be affected even if there all more heroes in the room? or does it means it'll affect ALL heroes in that one room? Thank you in advance
@@NguyenMinh-ri1tj there should be an icon preceding that one that shows ‘all heroes’ or ‘1 hero’. Let me know if you find a card that doesn’t specify. (I think there might be one or 2. And I’m pretty sure it defaults to ‘all heroes’)
@@BoardGameOfficer The icon I mentioned is included in Minotaur or Dire Serpent card. I understand it'll move and attack in that one room only, however I got confused if only 1 hero got attacked or all heroes in that room? I guess by default ALL heroes are targeted, which is sucks lol
@@NguyenMinh-ri1tj Oh anytime the Enemies activate (meaning from the black and red diamond icon) the enemy will target ALL heroes within range. This is found on page 15 in the section next to the black and red diamond icon. So even if it is not 'in this room icon', they will still target ALL heroes that are within their stated range.
One thing on your video i sort of disagree with (and i know that the Dized app says the same as what you says, but i disagree with it too) is about enemies stopping your movement when they enter your room. I agree with what you said in terms of if you use the warhorn to bring an enemy into your room, or past you, it doesnt "end your movement", i.e. you can theoretically move later on this turn (whereas if you walk into an enemy my movement has ended for the turn, even if i then use the warhorn i can no longer move this turn). BUT based on the rulebook i think that you CANNOT move past an enemy if theyre in your room (i.e. you cannot leave the room), even though your movement hasnt ended. The rulebook says "When moving into a room with an enemy, you cannot move any farther this turn. Heroes cannot 'pass through' enemies unless they have the Stealth ability.", so the first sentence is what we covered above in terms of the warhorn, but the second sentence is more or less saying that even if your movement hasnt ended, you cant move past that enemy to leave the room anyway. The Dized faq seems to also say you can leave the room, but again, i feel like this is a mistake. Based on the rulebook, I think you first need to use some ability like the warhorn to move the enemies off your square, and then you can use your movement . I guess it depends on the definition of 'pass through', but in my mind if an enemy is on your space then you are having to 'pass through' them to leave that space, which the game says you cannot do; but i guess if you dont consider leaving a space with an enemy to be passing through that enemy then what you/dized said is correct.
Yes, i understand that the rulebook does make it sound like that with that wording. The official TED FAQ also states that same thing as the Dized app does and so that is where I got that from. Sadly, that comes to what we were talking about in the other comment, that you have to look at 5 different places to make sure that you have all of the rules right haha
@@BoardGameOfficeroh okay, if the official faq says it too then i guess I'll concede I'm wrong. But it does seem odd to me flavour wise that I can escape from enemies when they're next to me fighting me, but not when I willingly and intentionally move towards and engage them haha. I guess I'll have to play a few more games with each way of playing it to see if my way limits options too much or if the other way is too easy, and then decide from there if I should use my rule or not. Thanks for the help clarifying and for tracking everything down for us! :)
@@moocowp4970 We would love to hear from you if it makes the game really hard, or its actually balanced the way you said that you cant pass through monsters, it makes more sense thematically and im all for the theme hahah
First off great video. Just wanted to ask something about spells and loot. When a spell is used - is it discarded ? Or it can be used multiple times. Also can I choose to discard my items and spells anytime ?
Thanks! And Spells are not discarded, you can use them every turn if you want. And yes any item/spells can be discarded at anytime, so if you draw something that you want you can switch it out, or in the middle of a turn if a card is covering up an ability, you can discard the card in the middle of the turn so you can do that ability. If that makes sense.😄
Still have the doubt if elemental charge or the wood elf ability let's you move up to your speed even if you already moved all that you can. Since in the rules it literalñy says "move up to your speed" I understand you can move "again" but seems to powerfull
Ya it can be pretty powerful! What go off of is it doesn’t say, ‘add your speed to your movement action’ it just says, ‘move up to your speed’ since there is no clarification of either or not you have moved. But I definitely see how it can be pretty strong!
Yes, That is a misconception. It can be interpreted that way. However it has been confirmed that when it says "and can be used to perform spell effects" What they were trying to clarify is that if you did "gain" that focus, that you can THEN pay for the spell with the 'gained' focus. Another way to think about it. It does say that the focus CANNOT be gained AFTER, and There is no real difference between gaining the focus AFTER and USING the focus from the dice. I hope that makes sense!
I just asked to get a for certain answer! facebook.com/groups/424653084794177/posts/1354078961851580/?comment_id=1354093051850171¬if_id=1695009244637530¬if_t=group_comment
So if this is an annoying question, but... Are you sure about when you gain the Focus when casting a spell? The reason I ask is this: If you Fail the roll, you definitely do not gain the Focus from the dice -- it has to be Successful. Because of this, I would have thought the spell would need to be successful FIRST (and so the Focus used up) and THEN, since Successful, the 'new' Focus gained. Am.I wrong?
Very useful video, I've now played about 4 games of this, and while im still enjoying the game, the rule book is easily one of the worst I've ever read/used. So many things wrong with the rulebook: 1. Needing to use an appendix, that's not included with the game box, to understand the basic rules/iconography is terrible. 2. Even with the appendix you need to look up the FAQ and Board Game Geek comments from the creator to still clarify some rules. 3. The rules that are there are written in such a way you constantly need to jump back and forth to find important information that should be next to each other. 4. This one is insane: there are MULTIPLE incorrect text descriptions in the appendix! E.g. the Pulley room and Library room dont have skill checks, but the appendix card mentions skill checks. The Giant's Strength text is what the text for Elemental Charge should be, the Elemental Charge text is talking about a card not in the base game i think, the set of the Lion equipment talks about adding to melee attack dice rolls when clearly the iconography is saying you should heal X health when performing a melee attack etc. etc. . There are so many errors its crazy, they obviously didnt proof read it properly. So as such, a video like this is SO useful for this game! Thanks so much! I've mostly tried to dig around for some of this info before finding this video, but I either had to house rule it or guess in some cases. Thanks again :)
@@moocowp4970 yes I agree, so there is an appendix out there that has a few less mistakes, but once again the problem is that it is not the one listed. I honestly right now don’t remember how I found the one with less mistakes so I can’t even tell you where it is… But I am happy that I could help!! I have some more videos on this game, even with all the rules difficulties it is one of my favorites, so I have done a lot of videos of it haha Let me know if you have any other questions as well!
@@BoardGameOfficeroh okay, maybe I should try searching for it more. I love your tips. Thanks man. I have one simple question. Is just for the spell that we gain the focus from the dices before doing the action or is it for every other actions? For a melee attack for example, I roll 3 dices and I took 5/+2/+1, should I receive it before or is should be after my action? Thanks in advance.
Thanks for the video, It Is very interesting for me. But i have a question, If I am casting a spell, but fail to cast it, will the enemies then counterattack me? Or i Lost only the hero action? Thanks you very much for tour time
Thanks for this video, i bought the game and did my first game tonight. I just have a question about the rules that I can't quite figure out: if an enemy (minion or boss) takes a spell that does direct damage (like Gerrund's magic arrow), does it counterattack if the hero is within range or in the same room ? I search a lot, but didn't find a sure answer.
Yes, they will still counter attack no matter the range, unless you are around a corner, so if they don’t have line of sight to you they cannot counter attack. That is a big benefit to the spell attacks with the squiggly line!
Okay i understand more, but in the FAQ, it's wrote : "Q:Moonblade : if the enemy damaged by ShadowWalks urvives, does it get to counterattack? A:No, direct damage in this way does not warrant a counter-attack." What the diffrence with a spell who damage directly ? @@BoardGameOfficer
@@sebleshah9712 Yes, so this can be pretty confusing, So the way you know that it is direct damage or not is if you look on the same line of the abliity that tells you what you need to roll to succeed. If there is Range or Target on that line then it is a spell attack. If there is no range or target on that line (it will be on the next line down) then it is direct damage. I am pretty sure Moonblades shadow walk and the spell elemental charge are the only spells that do direct damage (i think those are the only ones). so you can look at elemental charge and then look at claw of darkness, and you can see the difference.
In the rule book at the bottom of pg 7 it says 'skills with a -room flip- icon negate the requirement that you move into the room after revealing it.' We've been playing, that if the room has that icon, you don't have to move into it. But since all goblin/minion rooms have that icon, (and all videos I watch don't say anything about it) I feel like we're doing that wrong. Would you know what that pg 7 description means?
Yes, so that is specifying ‘skills’ that have that icon. For example ‘dungeon scry’ it allows you to flip over a tile, but you don’t have to move into it. Hope that makes more sense.
@@BoardGameOfficer Ok, thanks! That does make sense. I guess the room card is just kind of confusing then for goblin encounters, since it has the optional : colon icon after the room flip icon (in the bottom left). As though it's optional to move into it.
I had a situation with the viper set. When the torch moves down to enemies attack, The character does one or more damage to each enemy in the room before resolving the enemies attack. My question is are all the goblins killed simultaneously or one by one? Because the first goblin I had was a mixi goblin and it gave me a potion that caused all monsters to attack. That’s why I wanna know well all the current Goblins in his space die therefore they do not attack? Are they die one at a time resulting each one at a time?
Oh now that is a tricky situation for sure! So, I don't know if there is an official ruling on that. But I would say because it says that all enemies take 1 damage. I would say they ALL die at the same time, then each of their rewards are done in any order. So the potion would NOT activate the other goblins in that tile.
@@BoardGameOfficer I would agree. I would think of it like this scenario in Magic: the Gathering: Your opponent has two 3/3 creatures, one of which says "When this dies, give another creature you control +2/+2 until end of turn." You cast Sweltering Suns, which deals 3 damage to each creature. This causes both creatures to die at the same time, so the +2/+2 effect has no targets and thus doesn't resolve. It's not like the first 3/3 dies, gives the other one +2/+2, and that saves the other creature - all damage resolves simultaneously when applied by a single source.
IF a hero falls unconscious after losing all health points and with 5 remaining focus (out of a max of 8), when they rest, their health goes from zero to 3 and their focus goes from 5 to 8, yes? I had a friend who said if a hero falls unconscious BOTH health and focus drop to zero. Which is correct? GREAT video!
So when a hero falls unconscious, it is only the health that is at zero, the focus will always stay where it is at. So when you rested it would go back up to 8. I can see where your friend is coming from though, because it does seem that when you get knocked unconscious that you would loose both. But on page 13 of the rulebook, it just states that you put the health tracker to zero and lay the miniature on its side. It doesn't say anything about losing you focus. So that is why I say that the focus stays where it is at when unconscious.
Ya of course! And I very well could do that, but if you are interested. This appendix already explains each spell. www.gamelyngames.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/TEDu_card-appendix.pdf Let me know if you have any questions about anything in there!
Hello there. Is enemy counter-attack part of the heroic attack action? Can I use a free action (except dice modifying) before an enemy counter-attacks? For example shoot him and then teleport out of his sight.
Great job 👏. If you move the torch as a free action, as I understand it activates. Also, after you end your turn you move the torch. Does it mean that it moves 2 times ( one as a free a action and one after you have ended your turn) ?
@BoardGame Officer May I ask one more? I'm reading the rules and it says that if the enemy is still alive he counter attack. I understand that goblins have one health so, if you fail they counter attack but never when you succeed. Instead, minions and bosses have plenty of health. Does this mean that every time after a successful attack ( and since it is not the final blow ) they counter attack?
@@konikniov7069 You may ask as much as you need!! And yes that is correct, the minions and boss will counter attack every time until it is the final blow, then they will not counter attack the last one that kills them.
Apologize for not being able to link to the rules, but you are wrong on spell casting. From the rulebook you can use the dice energy to cast the spell.
Yes you can use them as long as you have the focus to gain. Since it says ‘gain immediately, if you are already at max focus, you then are not able to gain that focus and forfeit that focus.

Their dice free actions I think will always be a home ruling for me

Haha you are welcome! haha but Yes the playmat is a very nice thing to have!

I believe the rules said that you don't gain focus from spell rolls, but the symbols can pay for the spell directly.
It does say that the focus CANNOT be gained AFTER, and
There is no real difference between gaining the focus AFTER and USING the focus from the dice.
I hope that makes sense!
I just asked to get a for certain answer!

When I first played I thought the torch on the Boss mat activated every time the torch moved down on the torch track....
Oh snap!! Now that would be punishing!!
A friend gifted me this game and it's super good Thanx for the tips
That’s a good friend right there! :)
Am.I wrong?
I do understand where you are coming from. But in the FAQ it does state that the focus gained from the dice is BEFORE you pay for the spell.
Very useful video, I've now played about 4 games of this, and while im still enjoying the game, the rule book is easily one of the worst I've ever read/used.
So many things wrong with the rulebook:
I honestly right now don’t remember how I found the one with less mistakes so I can’t even tell you where it is…
But I am happy that I could help!!
I have some more videos on this game, even with all the rules difficulties it is one of my favorites, so I have done a lot of videos of it haha
Let me know if you have any other questions as well!
@@BoardGameOfficeroh okay, maybe I should try searching for it more. I was actually tempted to make my own file I was getting that frustrated with the errors in it haha 😅 (but I think I've understood most of it now that I don't need to refer to the rules/appendix that much anymore, so hence I cbb fixing it haha).
Thanks again :)
Great video! I have a question.. If the monster die lands on the Torch Down icon, what is the monsters roll to match to your heros defence for damage?
Thanks! In this case no damage is dealt to the hero, just the torch track gets moved down.
I love your tips. Thanks man. I have one simple question. Is just for the spell that we gain the focus from the dices before doing the action or is it for every other actions? For a melee attack for example, I roll 3 dices and I took 5/+2/+1, should I receive it before or is should be after my action? Thanks in advance.
thanks!! It is for all actions. But to note, you can not use the focus gained to change the dice.
Thanks for the video, It Is very interesting for me.
But i have a question, If I am casting a spell, but fail to cast it, will the enemies then counterattack me? Or i Lost only the hero action?
Thanks you very much for tour time
Yes, the enemy will counter attack you even with a failed spell. The only 2 exceptions are the rogue elf’s shadow walk and the spell elemental charge.
@@BoardGameOfficer thank you very much
Thanks for this video, i bought the game and did my first game tonight.
Okay i understand more, but in the FAQ, it's wrote :
"Q:Moonblade : if the enemy damaged by ShadowWalks urvives, does it get to counterattack?
A:No, direct damage in this way does not warrant a counter-attack."
What the diffrence with a spell who damage directly ?
@@BoardGameOfficer yes it's little bit confusing.
But I'll just memorise no counter for shadowalk and elemental charge. 🙃
Thanks for all
@@sebleshah9712 Ya that is probably easier haha Happy to help! Let me know if you have any other questions!
Can i use the stealth action after i enter a room that reveals an enemy or i must pay the focus before the move?
Pleaseee help
No you have to pay for the stealth prior to entering a room. Since the damage and the movement ending happens immediately as the tile flips.
@@sylentninjah ya I see what you are saying. But the only ‘move in’ is optional is on the heroes skill cards not the dungeon tiles.
Wow I just played for the first time and the counter attack for Elemental Charge was devastating. And now I realize it should not even have happened 😂
oh man that is rough! hahaha
@@BoardGameOfficer it was a terrible one hit KO. 8 damage on a 3 defense character 😭😂.
@@m.m.2341 ouch!! Those one shots hurt!!
I thought for ranger attack that required line of light like the bow the hero and goblin/ minion could not be in the same room?
That is correct, just in the example the panther bow has a special ability that allows him to attack everyone adjacent to his room and in his room.
TNX for the videos :) super ! i need a video to explain every spell PLSSSS !! GL
Ya of course! And I very well could do that, but if you are interested. This appendix already explains each spell.

Hello there. Is enemy counter-attack part of the heroic attack action? Can I use a free action (except dice modifying) before an enemy counter-attacks? For example shoot him and then teleport out of his sight.
The counter attack IS part of the heroic action, so you are unable to use any free actions before. That would be a good strategy though if you could!!
Great job 👏. If you move the torch as a free action, as I understand it activates. Also, after you end your turn you move the torch. Does it mean that it moves 2 times ( one as a free a action and one after you have ended your turn) ?
Thanks!! Yes that is correct! It will basically move twice!
@BoardGame Officer
May I ask one more?
Bottom of page 10. www.gamelyngames.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/TEDu_rulebook_forWEB.pdf
Yes you can use them as long as you have the focus to gain. Since it says ‘gain immediately, if you are already at max focus, you then are not able to gain that focus and forfeit that focus.

Can free actions in a room be activated multiple times? E.g. the room with the table with food in it
Yes as long as you can pay for it!
@@BoardGameOfficer let's say I'm in the room with the dinning table. So I roll as a free action, and I succeed the Check. Can I get the benefits from unused die without applying the effect of a successful roll?
@@changoatomico2995 ah I see what you are saying but this is treated like a spell, where you do have to pay for it to be considered successful. Another way to think of it is, you can 'use' the dice but then not pay because then you are technically using that dice, therefore not being successful.
I hope that makes sense.
What happens when you got the Phoenix set? Does the focus gain apply before or after have to pay the focus cost of the spell?
It is applied immediately when you make the magic action. So it will be before you pay for the spell.

I have a question. When we battle 2 bosses and we enter one lair. Does it mean we should open the other lair?
Yes, so that is also a rule that I missed is that opening up the lair is a FREE ACTION that is done on the lair door (its a orange action icon). Meaning you do not have to enter the layer to open it up.
So to answer your question yes, they both open up when you open the Lair Door.
I have a question: when taunting a boss, does he get to attack after moving or just moves and stares at you without attacking?
He is too angry after your taunting that he just runs towards you and stops. So no he does not attack. Just moves.

That’s smart! The Dized app can be super helpful!
You need to read the card appendix. The free actions inspire and intoxication can be used to increase the dice for skill checks so they could be used on a trap when first encountering the trap.
I understand where you are coming from, but the appendix doesn’t state that those abilities are an exception to the rule. Since they are a ‘free action’ and on page 2 of the FAQ, it states no free actions can be spent before checking for the trap.
@@BoardGameOfficer I didn't know about the FAQ, thanks for that. I was going from the card appendix, the FAQ though states on page two that you can use a free action for a skill check:

A: No, with one exception. You can use the Free Action to adjust your dice during a Skill Check.
