I love nightmare at the North Pole because of Krampus and the fact that it’s Christmas. The theme is the best! And the presents are so fun
Thank you. I've been swithering over which to get. This helped massively.
Which one did you settle on?
@@AlliesorEnemies I have the original, my brother has the Greek. Played and love both! I want to pick up a second one, and I’ve been stuck between American and World Monsters. I might pick up Greek instead now, even though my brother has it - he lives 4 hours away and it might be the best second Horrified for me and my family! It was helpful to hear that it’s a bit more straightforward with the flow of the game and the rules. Less complicated is best for young gamers!
Seems like so much nostalgic fun. I like games that are a series of mini games. What other locations/mini games exist? How many cards for food exist and what is the distribution of yuck and what determines if the food is yucky. Is it always tacos? Or is there one yuck of each type? Push your luck is fun but need to make sure we understand not all people haste tacos, or spinach 😋. Love seeing the mancalabeing used here. With the other locations, what are the mini games like and how many?
There are 4 yums and 1 yuck of each type of food. But it isn't shuffled until the end of the day. So sometimes people get yucks early and you know what food is safe, but other times people get lucky in the morning and get a bunch of Yums out and then you are left with a very risky meal. As for the other lovations will have more info soon.
I was looking for a little bit interactive game. So this goes on my must-buy
It really rides the line between having the drafting interaction, but also letting you do your own puzzle.
Great list! We share a top 10! 1. Lord of the Rings LCG 2. Marvel Champions 3. Deliverance 4. Star Trek Frontiers 5. Fallout 6. Dune Imperium 7. Marvel Zombies 8. X-Men United/Marvel United 9. Aliens Legendary 10. XenoShyft
Thank you for sharing. The Aliens version of Legendary has been on our must play list for a while as we are both big fans of the movies. We also love Star Trek, but haven't really looked into Frontiers. Maybe we should.
@ I think you would enjoy both. Frontiers is pretty much a streamlined but direct re-skin of the epic mage knight, highly thematic plus it has both Kirk and Picard. Aliens Legendary is my favorite incarnation of the legendary system, the facedown advancing threats recreates the feeling of the motion trackers going off not knowing if it’s a cat or xenomorph. Plus the added theme of having a character avatar is awesome and immerses you into the game more as you can be eliminated or worse, impregnated with a chestburster and become an alien player.
Goldfish 🙃
I have played both Skulk hollow and Raptor. My partner and I both preferred raptor.
Raptor is high on our wants list.
From what I understand you don't get to pick Shepard's class for some reason and if I understand what another video on the game said for some reason they remove Tali's ability to use Shotguns in his.
We haven't really played the video games, so this isn't stuff we noticed. But I think you are correct.
Looks like a better version of Rock Hard: 1977. Great job!
Thanks!
Followed Kickstarter, will rewatch when I can devoted time to watching game play.
@@jamesbrazeal3847 thanks!
This looks great. I've seen it on sale. I think I need it in the collection 😅
Excited to see this develop!
How does the game feel with the Fractures of Time and expansion?
It doesn't necessarily need expansions, but Fractures of time is a nice level up once you've played a bunch. We probably use it half the time. That said, we never combine expansions anymore, so it is one or the other. We tried we everything at once one time, and I think we are still recovering.
and last question, Anachrony or Voidfall? I'm intimidated by Voidfall but feel it'll be better solo. I plan to use this game as an either solo or occasional 2 player game. I can handle Lacerda games (on mars is a top 3 game for me). Lastly, I backed Revenant and feel knowing more thematically could be a useful factor in consideration. But again, the intimidation.
Just found your channel and so glad I did. Subbed! We seem to have very similar tastes. My top 10 are: 10. Architects of the West Kingdom 9. Brass Birmingham 8. Puerto Rico 7. Teotihuacan 6. Hadara 5. Raiders of the North Sea 4. Terraforming Mars 3. Ticket to Ride: Legends of the West 2. Champions of Midgard 1. Everdell
Thanks for sharing. Hadara is so underrated, it's a great game! We need to play Puerto Rico, it is a huge blind spot.
Excellent review
Thanks!
So this is a bit of Heat mixed with Thunder Road?
We haven't played Thunder Road, but it has a gear system similar to Heat.
How would you say it is compared to Gaslands or Thunder Road: Vendetta?
We haven't played either of those so we can't say. But we do really want to play Thunder Road, it looks awesome.
It reminds me of Pagan fate of Roanoke. Asymmetric 2 player game with the same general gameplay but different objectives and strategies.
I haven't heard of that one. We'll have to check it out!
We've just bought this one! I can't wait for the next board game night :)
I preordered 'Ironwood' and have played it several times. I very much enjoy 'think-y, interactive conflict games' and I knew this one would be right up my alley. Comparable games that I enjoy include my #1 favorite game, 'War of the Ring'. Also, 'The Battle of Five Armies' and 'Stronghold'. The thing that I really appreciate about 'Ironwood' as one of those types of games is the shorter play time. 'War of the Ring' is usually a 4+ hour game. 'Battle of Five Armies' is maybe 3+ hours. 'Stronghold' probably 2+ hours. Being able to get a rewarding experience with that type of game in an hour or less is really great.
We haven't played the other two, but agreed the War of The Ring is both terrific and very, very long.
Have you played "Awkward Guests"? How would you compare them? I like Awkward Guests but it is a pain to set up and take down...
We haven't played Awkward Guests, but I can tell you that the set up for Kronologic is like 15 seconds.
I’ll be getting Bus & Stop shortly but there is a game that’s been out for a while that it is very much like. It is called Pearls and it’s really good.
Ooooh. We'll look that up.
Thanks for the review. Almost sounds like Stardew Valley. Looks charming.
It doesn't have the same kind of story or sandbox, but it definitely had a very similar cozy vibe.
hmmmmm. This looks intriguing. Thanks for the review!
It exceeded our expectations.
Great review! Thanks for taking a look!
Thank you!
Thanks for sharing. Well done overview and review!
Thanks so much!
Did I hear you say Calgary?! Here I was watching your video tonight after seeing the World of Monster game at a Calgary Chapters tonight! What a nice surprise!
Yep, that's my hometown! I hope you also pop by The Sentry Box for games. That place is huge, there is nothing like it in London.
Yes! The Sentry Box is awesome!
A Bus & Stop quick session to see it played, would be cool! Thanks for the video!
Great review. ❤
Thanks!
Mille merci pour votre analyse sur mon jeu
Notre plaisir! C'est un super jeu!
Bus Stop and Superteam look awesome! Thanks for the awesome review(s)!
Thanks for watching!
A year later, but great review.
Bus and stop looks great. Thanks for recs!
It really is!
Bus & Stop has that Saashi look. I'm excited to try that when I have the opportunity!!
It is great. Now we need to go find the other ones.
Shawn, Have you ever played any sports simulation games from PLAAY? I know he has Hockey Blast, since you like hockey. I play History Maker Golf and want their soccer and stock car game too. Anyways, his game systems are super accessible for solo simulation sports games. You do have to like sports simulation games mechanisms, ie looking up tons of charts off of random dice rolls.
I have never heard of this. But it sounds super interesting. I will look this up! Thanks.
Tranquility: The Ascent arrived for me the other day, so I'm glad it's receiving positive reviews after all this time
It is solid. Glad it delivered!
@@matt_stowball I really like it. All the ways you can play it! Green path, goats, and solo.
Harmonies and Windmill Valley will likely be on my list that we do later this year (or early 2025) - some great picks! Have you tried Naishi? Its only available on BGA in the states, but it's SO good and will make you want to play a physical version IMO. Cheers from the Tabletop Express! - CB
Would you recommend the game if you were only going to play it two player?
We really liked it at two. But we prefer not getting in each others way too much, and we like it playing a lot shorter. The scanning is harder, but it's the same for both players, so it's certainly not game breaking. The perfect count is probably 3, but it is definitely playable, and good, at all counts.
@@AlliesorEnemies Multiplayer solitaire is our jam so it sounds like it will be good for us. Thanks!
Thanks for sharing! Have it on preorder.
This was a great video! I had to check it out because my boyfriend and I have fairly strong feelings about the Horrified series and I was dying to know what others thought. lol Thanks for sharing your thoughts in a fun and engaging way! Here’s a quick breakdown of our thoughts: We absolutely adore Universal Monsters and there isn’t a close second or even a debate on our side about that. The theme, art, monster selection, puzzles, etc. all sing in this game. It’s absolutely fantastic! Also, the location overlays in this version were the best as the locations stood out more. We enjoy American Monsters, its theme, and the monsters chosen, but some of the monsters/puzzles can be confusing (looking at you Bigfoot). The color scheme of American Monsters kinda threw us off because of all the brown that was used. It definitely felt like more color could have made the world feel more lively and less muddy. We bought Greek Monsters when it released (literally had them pull it from their stockroom) because we were so stoked about the theme. Sad to report that we completely despised it. The monsters were often more unclear than American Monsters and combined with the ever worsening rulebooks, we just felt lost most of the time. We didn’t like the new system of each Monster triggering off three different symbols because it felt unintuitive and we couldn’t just look at the card and know who triggered. The fact that the heroes were basic citizens and the villagers were these epic beings felt entirely disjointed. Lastly, the map had too many dead ends where it no longer felt like we could randomly choose heroes, but had to pick specific heroes based on their abilities. Ultimately, Greek Monsters is in our pile to sell or donate. It needs to find a home where folks love it. We haven’t purchased World of Monsters because we felt burned by Greek Monsters and the general incremental degradation in quality since the original game.
Do you 2 find Greek is too punishing to play at only 2? Do you play 2 characters each? Otherwise, it's worth noting Prospeo Hall (R I P.) designed the original, which is why the design feels more polished overall
We do play at 2, but we do tend to make sure at least one of us has a hero with a strong movement power. Movement is key in Greek Monsters. Absolutely agree on Prospero Hall. Their IP designs are some of the best in the business.
I appreciate the big swings American Monsters takes and the 50s Sci Fi theming, and the Puzzles of Greek Monsters are cool but the vague, sloppy rule books and production issues drag them down. I also find it weird theming that the "villagers" in Greek Monsters are demigods and heroes of Myths and Legends and the "Heroes" are just anonymous randos. Should have been reversed. The first one is still my favorite and your review of it is how I found your channel back in the day.
That was I think our second ever video! So thanks for sticking around! And very much agreed on the demigod vs "heroes" thing.
Great video! We own American and Greek and love both, but this video has convinced me that we need to pick up the OG sometime.
You really do. It is a modern classic.
It's on order. Can't wait to play!!
There's an old Kanban????!!! What? Love it! Also, I've been on the fence about Mad King and I think you sold me!!
There are actually a couple of older versions. I'm pretty sure the only major change is the art, but it's like half the price, and a much smaller box.
@@AlliesorEnemies Both advantages!!!
I love rondels and train games, but not contemporary heavy eurogames. The latter feel appears to outweigh the others, no pun intended, but I could be wrong! Do the resources go back onto market spaces or are they only removed?
They go back whenever they are spent. And because players can only have 8 at a time, and building trains costs so much stuff, you really can't hold onto very much. We have very rarely seen it get into the last row. I might watch a playthrough first if I was you, but I could see it going either way.
Excellent pictures. Exactly what I would want in a review. Concise thoughts and clear component pictures. Great work!
Thank you!
Thx for the video ❤
My wife and I love roll and writes and I actually found your channel back in the day due to your top Roll and write games. I finally got Rolling Realms about 5 months ago and we were bored to tears. This looks better!
To be honest, it is a very similar game. We really enjoy both, but if you didn't like the first one I don't think this will win you over. Another good flip and write we recently played though is Rivages, it has a really fast pace.
@AlliesorEnemies Rivages...cool. haven't heard of that! Trek 12 is great even solo and it's on BGA
Game ruins ME canon, not playing it
I initially read this like it was from a pirate "aaargh, ya ruined me canon."
That's funny 😂
How?
