Amazing performance! There's so much joy in Jim's performance. And the rhythm section of Ged Grimes and the ageless Mel Gaynor is blowing the doors off of this track. Thanks for posting this!
Cheers Roger. You're most welcome. I'm glad you like this Simple Minds clip. It's one of my favourite tracks I enjoy when they play it live. Appreciate you watching 👍
Thanks for your comment Paul. Yep - agree 100% with you. I've always found them to be a rewarding live band to spend money to go see and hear live. I've never come away dissappointed from seeing them play. They are a top class band, very nice bunch of musicians to the fans. No pretentiousness about them if you get to meet them. Cheers and Happy Christmas. Appreciate you taking time to watch the video 👍
Thanks demonweber666. Appreciate your comment and you watching. 'The Minds' are still an excellent and hardworking band, who are well worth seeing live. Pure class. I've a lot of respect for them. 👌
The awesome and sudden climax to this song 🎵 is multiple times. Geniuses, saw them in Konocti Harbor, CA on Clear Lake. Such a relatively remote area to get to, that few people were at the show and then the band hung out with us near a dock, and signed their autographs on my friends motor oil bottle with a Sharpie marker. My friend didn't have any paper, sort of, and a fascination with cars and SM being fast, fun, music. Lol, true story.
They'd probably remember signing that motor oil bottle if they happen upon that comment about Konocti Harbor Resort., they probably got some needed rest that night of their tour.
Lyrics are deep & still up to date (more than ever regarding the music industry) but I really regret that they never made another album in the style of Sparkle in the Rain, I mean not the songs alone but the production as a whole, the special sound that album had, not to mention those powerful pieces like Up on.. or Waterfront, I liked the following album a lot but that special feel and spirit - at least to me - felt somehow watered down...
Thanks for taking a look and for your comment. I guess its just something can happens with a lot of bands when they play live versions of their studio tracks. Maybe it could be down to the logistics on the tour for what guitars in general might work for a broader range of songs or cause less swaps during the live set. They're a powerful band to see live and sometimes the live versions of studio tracks can be refreshing, a little different or even totally reworked. Cheers 👍
This song makes me feel sooo good, I feel like being a better person. It still has this punchiness that really grabs you. With all this musical experience on stage, it doesn't get better than this.
You're so right. Its always a good song to hear & see live from the guys. I've never been anything other than impressed when I see/hear this track live. Powerful song - one of their best classics. Thanks for watching & for your comment. Appreciate it.
I totally remember walking into a record store (way pre-CDs) and seeing "Sparkle in the Rain" just released. I was the only one I knew who really liked Simple Minds (or really even knew who they were), having been into them since "Themes for Great Cities" was released in the US. And yeah... this song!
Back in 1985, I ambushed several "greatest guitar solo" debates with the studio version of this song ... It is one of the great 16-beat solo breaks in pop music / Not flashy and not a showcase of guitar prowess but it is perfect for the song - perfect
This is my all time favorite Simple Minds song.
Same for me.
This and New Gold Dream are mine.
Mine too !!!
Mel's drumming never fades. He still got it goin' on.
His voice STILL kills this song!! In fact...I may like it a bit better now.. Damn, way to go boys!! On of my all time fave-rave tunes of ANY genre!
Wow, this is a great live version. 32 years after the original was released.
This is a really underrated song - a couple of years before they went full mainstream and even stadium rock.
36 years on dude, still is lol 😆
I love this song!
Charlie and Jim haven't changed much in 40 years. And they're still good as a live band.
Still AS BRILLIANT as ever !!!!

Gosh, just how good is this, when they are live it is on par with recorded tracks, Catherine looking stunning...

I will be there.... i will be thereeee Scottish best!!!
Toniiiiiight, under the crystal light!!!!! lol!!!!!!
Great song, should get played on the radio but it doesn't!
Mel Gaynor, badass
Is that Catherine Anne Davies singing so much like Chrissie Hynde?
YES IT IS !!. X
zoom in on Mel ! they cannot do this track without him now, no matter how good Cherisse is
Grandi
It's a pity Charlie Burchill doesn't do the nice pretty choppy guitar from the studio version. Needs a stratocaster.

Berni Parker They sure have a magical musical ability ! Thanks for watching and for your comment. Cheers
One of THE most amazing gig - SM doing Sparkle in the Rain @ The SFX in 1984, incredible...
I think Jim Kerr's voice got better than earlier
Still coming across very convincing!. I like the female background singer complementing a lot.

I know what you mean. I'm out on the decking with bottle of cider and tennis racket in hand absorbing the adulation of the empty garden.
Des simples d esprit...qui savaient composer comme des génies
