Dropped by GoOutdoors this afternoon, surprised at the lack of weight, just watched your beach video and shocked how much speed you seem to be able to maintain on soft sand. I'll have to get one for no better reason than i like the look, but if it actually pedals well also - happy daze.
p.s. guys, have a look at my channel and check out 'what are FATBIKES for?' .. you may like that recent video I uploaded too If your interested in fatbikes.
Couple of important points for people looking at a bike like this: it has a tapered head tube, making upgrading to a fat suspension fork feasible. It also appears to have a threaded, external bearing bottom bracket. This means you could upgrade or replace the crankset with any modern fat bike crankset if you wanted to make changes to your drivetrain (e.g. switch to the currently fashionable 1x setup). If you can afford it, buy as much bike as you could possibly ever need; but if you're on a budget, buy a bike that is good enough for now, but can also be upgraded to meet your future needs. Upgrading is never the cheapest way to get a given point, but an upgradable frame gets you on the trail today for less without limiting your future options. You could upgrade this bike to a front suspenstion fat hardtail, then side-grade that to a conventional 27.5 or 29'er hardtail by replacing the wheels (although you'll need 197mm spacing in the rear, they are available in conventional rim sizes).
I work at Go Outdoors and have had my eye on one for the last year.....nice to read a proper review and an honest one at that. I would definitely swap the brakes out and maybe a 10 speed cassette and SLX shifters but as you say a solid frame base to work with. I'm 5'10" and have ridden one around the store and it seems comfy enough for my height.
I'm lovin' my fattie, even though it's nearly 9kg heavier than yours! Cheap at £160 used though. I bought it to improve my fitness, so the weight it a benefit, right?
Hoohoo! I just collected one of these yesterday. I will be trying it at Haldon Forest trails in an hour or so. It's SOOO light compared to my Coyote Skid Row!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The next clip after you sayo bg that the seat is baby friendly made me laugh. I thought that the baby was on ur bike when u were going off road for 2 seconds lol
I'm thinking of getting a fat bike and doing an ebike conversion, I ride for pleasure on gravel paths and roads and pavements, I'll probably keep the tyre pressure at 25psi or above and put some slime in the tubes to give me a bit of protection against punctures.
Good review, it looks much better than my budget fat bike which is steel and a single speed, I wish I'd of known of these before I got mine.. I think tubeless is the way to go with fat bikes, the wheels seem to spin up with a bit less effort.
Thanks, yes i will look into tubeless at some point, distracted with moving house right now, but hopefully take advantage of whats left of summer before its gone :)
I have those same tires set up Tubeless on my Fat Bike. Very good review I subscribed to your Channel. I did a recent video on riding a fat bike on ice it's under my own name.
I bought a calibre gauntlet, the bike is good but it had a load of set-up issues. The bottom bracket, cassette, headset and grips were installed loose and after two weeks I had to completely rebuild the wheels and every month since had to fiddle with the wheels again. In the end I bought new wheels.
Thanks for uploading this! I bought one of these today, from go outdoors just as you mentioned, and also just like you said here got a puncher on almost immediately! Less than 5 km in and booom a teeny bit of twig popped the back tyre when just riding along a redway pavement. I can't imagine this would have damaged a regular bike and I can't see this thing going more than 10k without getting a puncture I'm totally new to fat bikes, just bought it coz it looks dope. Are they're upmarket puncture proof tyres you can buy???
SJM you can set it up as a tubeless option. Bit of a faff but should resolve the puncture issue. Although I will say I haven't had a puncture in ages. Mainly because I use it on beaches mainly. Maybe check my channel out as I recently uploaded a video about how I modified to act as my kitesurf transport. :)
I want to get a fat bike, is this bike a bike where you buy cheap you buy twice kinda thing if you know what I mean or is it actually really good for its price. Thanks.
bro I am new to cycling and thinking of fat bike .I travel on road only and some times off road .So can I go with bike with front shockers or without any suspension or shockabsorber
FUN TIME if you mostly ride on road a fatbike may not be for u. But each to his own. Do u ride on sand at all. (Mainly why I bought mine) And they can be fun on trails too. But for light off road use and on road a regular mtb may suit you better.
hi fella. just seen this bike in the shop. coming from a full sus lapierre spicy. Is this bike worth its price tag in long run? i live in sunny wales and wanted a rigid fatbike to shres around afan trails. is it suitable for this? also how tall are you? i hear the frame size limits the rider comfort alot. cheers.
Hi. I'm 5,9" and have the medium. It's a pretty small medium. They do do a large apparently though. It's a fat bike. I can cope with burms and wallowy jumps. But anything very steep or harsh you would be better off on a full sus of course. It's fun for how I use it. Sand dunes, beach (beach and stone) and sandy trails along coast. And foresty trails it's fun for. But you have to use it within its remit.
+biscuitsalive thanks for the reply dude. I dont really ride the beach around here. though maybe i would if i joined these fatty clubs..haha . They only make the one frame size. im 5ft ten so probably not much an issue.
Hi again fella. I took the plunge in the end! I get it tuesday! I went for the medium (they do a large now) a large may have suited for the climbs but cockpit was a perfect feel for me for what i want for descents
crazy world lloyd hey. Sorry I don't know much about electric bikes at all. My thoughts here won't be that useful. But let me know if you do it. May be something I look at down the line.
i would love to have one of these bikes .looks like a lot of fun to ride . i keep looking for something low price but done every find anything. could you help me with a brand name or something like that. THANKS for the help.
James Taylor I thought the cost was about right. Not spotted many other fatbikes for similar with as good a frame. We have left it stock so far. Gets used lightly by us so no need to upgrade. If using it hard on trails then would surely upgrade brakes and drive chain.

Looking pretty gloomy across Goss Moor as I look out from my desk, but hope it will be drying jest enough to get out there soon. I've got a spot in mind for a night shot that is hard to get to and the fat bike could be just the tool.
are throns a serious problem there? I want one of these some day but I dont do the downhill fast tracky stuff where you do jumps and wheelies (tho I wouldnt mind learning how to on flat ground just so see what it is like) I dont have a beach so something like this would be fine I am not a bmx thrills and spills rider by anymeans but do love to hit the trails at modest to low speed not to steep trails. so I figure these bikes would be fine, I have seen them with pedal assist motor and I have been considering this, some day when I can afford it or find a good used one. pretty nice to read reviews from experienced riders to help us novices and bikers decide on the bike that is just right for them. thank you.
TheRosa63 thorns can be an issue. But my friends that have owned fat bikes longer than me tell me to convert to tubeless. (Haven't tried that yet) then u don't get punctures.
Hi there, I liked your video and noticed the frame size doesn't seem to be a problem for you, Im going to buy this bike in the next week and thought id be better going for a large frame as I'm 5'11 in height although im not sure... I also bought one of these for taking my boards down to the beach (I also kitesurf) lumberjac.com/2013/06/csr-small-block-surfboard-bike-rack/ would it be better for going the large size in your option? Cheers
Hi, cool board rack... i may look into that. Im not sure I'm only about 5'8" or 5'9" , and it feels pretty small with me. Can you get to a go outdoor store and try it out first maybe?
I'm 70 mile away from the store :(, if it feels pretty small to you I think I'll go up to the large.ive emailed the store to see if they can shed some light on the sizing. The board carrie can carry 2 kite boards a normal and light wind board... Looking forward to getting the carrier on the Fat bike :)
yes, maybe a good idea, i wouldn't say it feels too small.. but i tend to like bikes that have a shorter top tube than normal folks (my back prefers to be a bit more upright) i hope you enjoy it, i need to get mine out of the shed! (been distracted with moving house etc)
Good review, no bull and you seem like someone I've known for years despite being from the wrong side of the Tamar! ;)...I'm in Devon see...cream first . I can't stop looking at these ere fat bikes, I still ride a race ready '91 GT this thing looks like an armchair of a bike...but I don't fancy the thorns! I punctured 8 times on 1.75" tyres back along ..
Thanks, yep the bike is still running fine, doesn't get loads of use, but has held up well against rust after many sea spray/beach trips. p.s. I'm from bristol originally. so you may have run in to me up there once upon a time. :)
Yeah we probably hung out at the same places ;) Maybe I ought to sell some stuff first... kites , longboards, buggies... see you out there some time. Thanks for your quick reply!
Hah!! Since I acquired my Calibre Dune last year, almost 4 months after my heavyweight fattie thang, (100% steel) I've lost interest in any other type of bicycles! Really! Added a dropper seat post, raised the bars to cope with my dodgy neck, and it's just the best thing since sliced coffee and cake!!! 😋🥰🥰🥰 OK, electric is interesting, but it will have to be a fattie!! Dunelectric?
sorry man but NO tyre is gona stand thorns if you ride throu the bushes. its not minus of the bike. Fat tyres have awesome bonus cos even if you get thorn in tyre. if you leave it you have 3 hours before it get completly flat/ thanx big mass and low preashure. So dont spread bulshido.
Liquidazot it’s just down to maths. The surface area /footprint on the fatbike is about 4 or 5 times bigger. So you are 4 or 5 time more likely to pick up a thorn compared to normal tires. And anecdotal experience matches this. I’ve had more punctures with my fatbike than any other bike. (I own 6 bikes now and they all go along the same trials... but it’s always the fat bike that catches a thorn.)
@@biscuitsalive i have fat bike and i say acordimg to this whay i know not what i think. Thorns are not on the road. If you take shortcut throu the thorny bushes No matter wich size of tire you will get100% thorn. Bonus of fat tyres is that even with 2 thorns in you still can get to work place to workshop or home. You have plenty of time. Allso you you dont want to pump wheela ypu can use gas cilinder. I juat hate bike experts who talk what they rhink not they know
Liquidazot clearly I’m not professing to be an expert. Im just sharing my experience with a product. Are you confusing me with a journalist or something?
@@biscuitsalive allso there is another tricky thing. If you pump wheels to 32-35 psi and you have suspension. You have less chance to get puncture than on normal tyres. I was watching your video just to see how geometry whelding and other specs of ftame look like. Seams to be fine. Minus of the fat bike is only one. If some one is not using gears. Dont understand to use gears than fat bike is not for this persone. Is realy hard to travel on this thing without proper gearing. My fat bike was just stolen and i want to get replacment. And i was writing only to correct miss leading thing you make. Cos this push off many peoples of the realy intresting bike style. I test fat bike in all condytions and therw is no better thing to travel throu evrything. If we want to point another minus its when you travel throu river or any water and lecel of watwr reach above axles than wheels pop you on the side whatever you will try to do ;)
Another interesting thing. I remove completly transparent paint of the frame. Becauase i hate glosy color. It apears that frame now glows in the dark realy long amd strong light. Like tron bike. No joke.
FUN TIME yep the advantages of the fatbike is the large foot print for loads of grip in snow sand and loose dirt/stones etc. Doesn't sound like you really need that. But by all means give one a go and see if you like it. No rules to say u have to ride it on the beach. :)
Hey Biscuit, An honest, straight forward review of the Dune. I avidly researched budget FATs before buying my Dune in March and found the following thread really helpful, perhaps some Tubers may find the same. Also mate, you may be interested in the Fat Bike Cornwall page on FB. singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/would-you-buy-a-new-fatbike-for-1k
any bike any mechanicaldeviceyou take to the beach is gonabe contaminatedand ruinedifyou will not cleanit. so why you pointitasa downside.? Just use lubricants based on silicon.Dryonessoless shit stuck to drive train. But any way saltwilldo its job if you do not washof bikeafter trip. -.-
yea we get some snow(not like the snow belt around the great lakes thank goodness) but we get some and this bike would be great for the snow (which seldoms gets really deep except for a brief period in feburary) and it all melts away within a couple of weeks or so. but for me i dont ride in the winter to cold for me, but some do. i see this guy allthe time on his 10 speed bike even in winter on the plowed roads, wonder how if he would like one of these.
Why buy a fat bike¿ because I WANT to hell with negative opinions from some people lol. Why care so much about what somebody else does or like long as it’s not something bad like stealing or something is my question Jesus. Not the video just in general some people got to say Their opinion like it’s fact and in a more aggressive or in someone’s face way why though lol what’s the point in that good for them you know whatever though.
In a sea of crap reviews yours is brilliant, just the facts and no pregnant pauses, repetition etc - keep it up amigo.
Thanks buddy, not the most professional thing i have every done. :/ but if it was useful then it did its job. :)

Amazing video, dude. You may have convinced me. Looks really versatile.
Also i am jealous of those trails.
Thru-axle front and rear, tapered head tube... amazing at that price! I wish other brands (i.e., available here in Canada) could offer the same thing.
I have the same tires. Just put 4oz of Stan's sealant in the tubes, no more thorn punctures
Thank's for a great review, it always hard to find reviews on niche items like this normally?
Glad it was useful.
I'm actually out with the bike now trying to grow balls for some big jumps. :)

£500+ and no hydraulic brakes?! Madness! Have you decided to buy any hydraulic brakes to replace the cable ones?

Maybe even some sort of tripod rack:)
Yeah. Looks like you cart around even more gear than me. Adding the dog to the front can exercise him and help me get places too.
Taken the plunge with the help of CycleScheme through work. Hopefully have something in the next few weeks.
Simon Jones cool. I need to get mine out of shed. Summer on the way :)

doesnt thta cause the air to go out?
TheRosa63 look up "how to go tubeless" a few good vids on it.
It involves some sticky glue stuff and particular rims/wheels.
I never see any of these on the bike trails until it starts snowing, I guess they are better on the ice and snow
exodous02 they sure are, they suck in the mud though

No joke.
I will ride only on road and some times off-road
FUN TIME yep the advantages of the fatbike is the large foot print for loads of grip in snow sand and loose dirt/stones etc.
Doesn't sound like you really need that.
But by all means give one a go and see if you like it.
No rules to say u have to ride it on the beach. :)
Hey Biscuit,
An honest, straight forward review of the Dune. I avidly researched budget FATs before buying my Dune in March and found the following thread really helpful, perhaps some Tubers may find the same. Also mate, you may be interested in the Fat Bike Cornwall page on FB.

Thanks. Will check out that link and the FB group. :)
any bike any mechanicaldeviceyou take to the beach is gonabe contaminatedand ruinedifyou will not cleanit. so why you pointitasa downside.? Just use lubricants based on silicon.Dryonessoless shit stuck to drive train. But any way saltwilldo its job if you do not washof bikeafter trip. -.-
Just wait till the snow comes lol
yes, for those 2 days of the year this bike will be perfect! :)
You might only get 2 days lol
yea we get some snow(not like the snow belt around the great lakes thank goodness) but we get some and this bike would be great for the snow (which seldoms gets really deep except for a brief period in feburary) and it all melts away within a couple of weeks or so. but for me i dont ride in the winter to cold for me, but some do. i see this guy allthe time on his 10 speed bike even in winter on the plowed roads, wonder how if he would like one of these.
0:32 Her seat is too low.
