    PETER BERGEN
    Peter Bergen is an acclaimed journalist, terrorism expert, and national security analyst. Bergen famously interviewed Osama bin Laden in 1997. In season one, Peter was on Danger Close for a conversation about his book, The Rise and Fall of Osama Bin Laden, which examines the life, philosophy, influence, and personal contradictions of the infamous leader of al-Qaeda.

    Congressman Mike Waltz has been on Danger Close twice, most recently this summer for a conversation about the American military’s withdrawal from Afghanistan. He is a combat-decorated Special Forces veteran, congressman from Florida’s 6th district, the author of the book Warrior Diplomat, and a colonel in the National Guard.

    SCOTT NEIL AND MARK NUTSCH
    Mark Nutsch served in the Army as a Special Forces officer. Scott Neil is a retired Green Beret Master Sergeant. Following the attacks of 9/11, they deployed to Afghanistan where they traversed the rugged terrain on horseback. Their story was immortalized in the film 12 Strong. Scott and Mark are also two of the co-founders of American Freedom Distillery, the makers of award-winning Horse Soldier Bourbon.

    I think Afghanistan should be a lesson to everyone it doesn't matter the quality and honor of the guys on the ground. If the people leading the war from office at home are incompetent the mission will fail.

      In the end we where just wasting our time there and the afghan's people time. We were never gonna break the Taliban insurgency. Just like the Vietcong insurgency was never gonna be broken. Military occupations rarely ever work in the end. You can blame generals and political leaders all you want. Building a democratic Afghanistan was never feasible. Especially a society like that.

      @@jonathanramos8414It is very telling that insurgences never worked in the pre-modern world, I.e. the world before 1945.
      Or that the second that they started, they were crushed .
      Something to think about….I wonder what.
