The passage where Peter Zeihan "predicted the Russian invasion of Ukraine to the very month in his book the Accidental Superpower" states that Russia will make a move before 2020, not in February of 2022. So, 1. He was wrong. 2. If you want to say he still predicted it happening, many did after Crimea, just ask Ukrainans or east Europeans, many were waiting for it to happen. I wish he corrected the podcaster about the "down to the specific month" comment, that was not a good look.

One thing overlooked was that prior to that disaster known as the "withdrawal from Afghanistan," the Taliban assumed we were going to keep Bagram. That would have been a huge strategic advantage in dealing with China and Russia. Oh well.
Everything with you Americans is strategy; at the receiving end there's death and destruction, refugee crisis as a result. The likes of Peter Zaihan push for that sentiment. The US will push, a nuclear catastrophe will ensure and the human race, as we know it will be extinct. You and I included.
Assuming the need to pull troops also implies expectations that Russia will invade Poland etc. Leaving behind arsenal is also confusing if following the narrative that we are supplying ammunition without ground support so while the practical delivery of clear-minded and useful information is a relief, it has holes. The delivery of "hope" escapes pragmatism when information is skimmed over as such. Otherwise, great talk but with BRI and Pakistan etc in the region, a power vacuum is certainly to our advantage, how remains to be seen and would like to better understand.

I'm a fan of Peter's work but his take on electric vehicles is incomplete. Half of Tesla's cars use LFP batteries, not NCA batteries. LFP batteries don't use any nickel or copper, they are mainly lithium and iron, two of the most abundant elements on Earth. With technological advancements, LFP batteries or some other non-rare earth mineral intensive batteries could become the norm. Tesla is also developing a drive unit that does not use any rare earth minerals, though they did not provide details on this during their last investor day presentation so I am a bit more skeptical about this claim. There are a lot of other issues I have with EVs, but rare earth minerals is one that could be overcome quite easily with technological advancements.
Very interesting comment. I've gone back and forth the Peter Z's EV argument. Do you have any links to the LFP battery data? My information was those were mostly in the Chinese market, and the performance of LFP batteries is lower, so they go in the lower-end cards. Also regarding this comment. "Tesla is also developing a drive unit that does not use any rare earth minerals, though they did not provide details on this during their last investor day presentation so I am a bit more skeptical about this claim." I'm very skeptical of the claim that the drive train can be made without rare-earth elements. I'm not aware of a permanent magnet worth putting in an EV that works without rare-earth elements.
I don’t see China falling apart so quickly. It is true generally that, whichever country has the most kids will in the long run win, but generally “the long run” is longer than the average life expectancy.
Death is not an essential element. Having a massive percentage of the population age into retirement and out of the labor market, a grossly insufficient pool of working age population to maintain the economy, let alone expand it, along with far too few reproductive age people, and a serious imbalance between the ratio of males to females, with a birth rate far below replacement rate, all within the context of deglobalization and serious reduction or total loss of access to import sources for necessary goods and supplies, are all country killers, in far less than the life expectancy of a generation.
Really good stuff! Refreshing to say the least. Hopeful. What the world needs, intelligent, genuine, easy to listen to, good people that leave politics and religion out of their narratives and presentation.
Zeihan's explanations are comforting, especially on China, which makes me highly suspicious of them. I hope he's correct, but I'm preparing myself for him being dead wrong.

But, props to Peter for being one of only a few folks that put themselves out there and make anything clear. Imagine hearing anything like this from MSM.
Whether left or right the US is on a bad path. Political manipulation will be our end. The one issue that this cast didn’t address is what globalism plays in dismantling everything just said.
Peter is too optimistic about the US. We have a skilled labor shortage and a soon to happen population crunch. The US economy can't run on a bunch of people trading cheeseburgers.Look at the current state of the bureaucracy, 13 years in that and it was intel, and you couldn't pay me enough to deal with that crap again let alone go to the MIC as I was supposed to do by some logic of the admin class. When defense contractors start offering bonuses for signing on without a clearance, you know its bad.
Peter is accounting for all the issues you mentioned. The US will not collapse because it is completely self reliant. There will be uncomfortable moments for the US but that is nothing like what most of the world will experience.
If you don’t mind me asking, what caused you to hate working in intelligence so much? I’m considering a career in it, so I would be interested in hearing your thoughts.

Peter seems like such a gentleman academic. I enjoy listening to his very a keen insights into the players and risks involved. Occasionally he does make dramatic comments then fails to substantiate any backing. Albeit it can't be easy managing all these working parts I would find it less then shocking if some of his recent comments are in fact completely contradictive in nature.
He's simply ignoring the recent peace treaty between Iran and Saudi Arabia because it doesn't fit his narrative
@@Withnail1969 Or, maybe, because he knows something about the long history of conflicts between peoples of these two regions, and two different, 'competing' sects of a major religion.
@@Withnail1969 With as much blood as each of those nations has on their hands, any treaty between them is only as good as the convenience it brings either nation. Nazi Germany and Soviet Russia both needed Poland as part of their expanding empires at the start of WWII, so the peace made between Hitler and Stalin was as tenuous as it was public. So it is with Iran and Saudi Arabia.
WTF?!? I would call that sloppiness, a quality, as well as paedophia, not part of ANY professor’s repertoire
He is NOT an academic.
I made that mistake too tbh.
This is a fascinating lesson, he was a whole different perspective on what’s going on in the world. Thank you for the podcast.

That's the most insane thing I've ever heard him say(1:05:56). After the last two years and the twitter files ,how the hell could anyone think we need more government involvement in the internet?
Ya that was a big red flag for me as well, anyone who suggests that people's voiced need to be "regulated" should be considered suspect.
@@michaelallison2836 That is one of his big problems. Another is how he doesn't address that Western elites are obsessively destroying the cultures and economies of the West in general.

Deep state propaganda
Agreed. Govt deciding what “truth” is on the internet is absolutely INSANE, especially when the govt (meaning the current party in power at any given moment) is the absolute largest purveyor of disinformation, half-truths, outright lies and straight up propaganda.
Our govt needs LESS power over its people, not more.

it does but it costs a LOT more so its inflationary to build it our in his scenario and continues as the cost to produce rises. Love Peter!!! Thanks so much for hosting him again Jack!
Almost everything Peter Zeihan says is false. From the comments I have read many people believe what Peter Zeihan says. What this indicates to me is that people who listen to this propaganda have a very low level of knowledge about the topics he talks about.
Another conclusion I can make since what he says in many cases is the opposite of reality is that he is some how being paid by the u.s. government or the military industrial complex.
If your not seeing thr fake narrative that he is advocating then you are not knowledgeable enough on these topics.
Thank you for your work.
Peter's take on geopolitics is an inspiration for my next novels as well. Nice job with this interview, Jack.

@B.J. Sculley or is Peter creating irrational optimism? 😉
This, in fact, is a lovely discussion that has potency both for (1) waking up the sleeping patriotism of Americans and inspiring more those already patriotic the right way, and (2) can do wonders for promoting the US against anti-American and anti-West sentiments out there. @@Allaiya. his np real down of AI into “Applied” and “General” is incorrect. What he describes as “Applied AI” is just programmed heuristics, and that’s not really considered AI. The real categories of AI are Narrow and General. Narrow AI is an algorithm that can be trained to solve one problem intelligently. This is fairly well developed today and is seen in image recognition, stock trading, automated driving, AI art, ChatGPT etc. General AI is a human like intelligence and that’s about 20 years away. Much appreciated update from wise man zeihan
I'm delighted to hear Carr say these provide inspiration for him. I've enjoyed some of his books, and this just adds a smile to my face. I'm looking forward to your new book Jack.

Easy enough to predict the collapse of china every decade because most americans know jack shit about china and don't care enough even when his predictions turn out wrong. But making a prediction about the next US presidential election and getting it wrong? Bye bye credibility.

Tesla cannot carry the car industry by itself but it grow in the marketplace but is not going to displace ICE anytime soon.
Abundance doesn't matter if it's not in economic quantities
Very interesting comment. I've gone back and forth the Peter Z's EV argument. Do you have any links to the LFP battery data? My information was those were mostly in the Chinese market, and the performance of LFP batteries is lower, so they go in the lower-end cards.
Also regarding this comment. "Tesla is also developing a drive unit that does not use any rare earth minerals, though they did not provide details on this during their last investor day presentation so I am a bit more skeptical about this claim."
I'm very skeptical of the claim that the drive train can be made without rare-earth elements. I'm not aware of a permanent magnet worth putting in an EV that works without rare-earth elements.
@@alansnyder8448 RUclips deletes comments with links but if you google Tesla LFP batteries several articles from last spring pop up.

Put Zeihan and Carr in the same conversation it's a pretty good idea to tune in.
Weird now, that Putin and Jinping have met and made an alliance.
Peter Zeihan didn't see that coming.
I don’t see China falling apart so quickly. It is true generally that, whichever country has the most kids will in the long run win, but generally “the long run” is longer than the average life expectancy.
And what will they do when they have 4x more old people than young people who work?
Death is not an essential element. Having a massive percentage of the population age into retirement and out of the labor market, a grossly insufficient pool of working age population to maintain the economy, let alone expand it, along with far too few reproductive age people, and a serious imbalance between the ratio of males to females, with a birth rate far below replacement rate, all within the context of deglobalization and serious reduction or total loss of access to import sources for necessary goods and supplies, are all country killers, in far less than the life expectancy of a generation.
That's probably why the southern border is wide open

You beautiful, bearded man, thank you for hosting Zehian again. I'm such a Zehian fan boi, and I genuinely believe Peter's voice is one of the most important voices online. The ignorance and disinformation being espoused on this platform is unprecedented, and daily I see comically ignorant talking points, being regurgitated by our community. I've been yelling like an idiot for a year now *"FFS GO WATCH ZEIAHANS CONTENT."* I feel as if listing to the majority of content creators discuss geopolitics, is like listening to your drunk uncle at Thanksgiving, tell you about how the government is ran by alien, reptile people. But, props to Peter for being one of only a few folks that put themselves out there and make anything clear. Imagine hearing anything like this from MSM.
Peter Zeihan is like Tom Clancy on steroids.. Thanks to both of you!!
There is no population crunch in the US
We won’t have a population crunch soon, We have much better demographics than China and most of the developed world.
