Hamilton: An American Musical is a sung-and-rapped-through musical by Lin-Manuel Miranda. It tells the story of American Founding Father Alexander Hamilton. Miranda said he was inspired to write the musical after reading the 2004 biography Alexander Hamilton by Ron Chernow.
The show draws heavily from hip hop, as well as R&B, pop, soul, and traditional-style show tunes. It casts non-white actors as the Founding Fathers and other historical figures. Miranda described Hamilton as about "America then, as told by America now."
It's my first time listening to Hamilton and my first time listening to Hamilton, alexander hamilton, my short, yorktown, helpless, the schuyler sisters, the story of tonight, and more!

Everyone will inevitably have their own opinions of which songs rank higher over which- for them- and all of them are valid.
*_For me_* personally, Story of Tonight and Dear Theodora are probably the least interesting (comparatively) of all the songs in a banger musical. Whereas I think I would place Farmer Refuted somewhat higher, because of the sheer cleverness of Hamilton riffing circles around Seabury's own words. I would also probably rank Schuyler Sisters and 10 Duel Commandments higher- both at least a 'Vibe'. For the rest, there are too many amazing songs here to easily or definitively rank them, but I CAN say that Satisfied stands out in my mind as unique, in the way it replays the events of the previous song- choreography and all- and simultaneously turns them on their head.

For me, I'm always team satisfied over team helpless. Helpless is still one of my favourites, but satisfied is just on another level of incredibleness. I would have put satisfied in the top tier, after Yorktown which is first. My shot would also go top tier for me. I would have put non stop slightly lower, although I still love it. Other than that, there are a few things I would change, but definitely a fair enough tier list
satisfied is relatable in a lot of ways and very emotional. also renées beautiful performance
My Shot is so tricky because it sets the base for tons of amazing songs, so do you rank that high, or do you rank the songs high that build on it? And Satisfied is a beautiful song, I think it's just my boomer showing that is why I like Helpless so much
@@YoBGS it's definitely tricky. I would say that even as a standalone song it is brilliant and would go in the top tier, but it's definitely a matter of opinion
I am team helpless, but I respect the choice they are both amazing songs.
Satisfied and Helpless are both good but Renee murders Satisfied with a higher degree than Helpless

I would also like an Act 2 Tier list. I can see where you’re coming from on all of this. Can’t believe all the comments about Non-Stop being lower in their list; that song is an absolute banger and I love the medley of all the songs at the end of it to tie all of Act 1 together.
Right? Although I feel like Non-Stop was kinda a cop out because it's easy to pick it since it's literally every song in one

I know this might be a spicy take but history has it's eyes on you does so much more for me then yorktown. It never fails to give me goosebumbs, the emotions, the insane harmony, its just awesome imo.

I actually really enjoy the song, I just feel like its placement is sorta off. But I can't think of where else you could put it that would still make sense.
@@YoBGS I'm actually really happy with your video, every other person I've seen do a tier list of hamilton, they never get the actual point of the song, and you did, so I wasn't upset. While there were some I didn't agree with, I really respect your opinion.
its my favorite song. I'm a freshman in college with an intent to go into politics watching the world fall apart. I don't know how I couldn't love this song.
Its a good somg but its not better than yorktown
For me the song that sticks out the most in act one and in fact the entire musical has to be “wait for it”. Something about it just hits different lol. It’s just so excellent Whether I listen to it in context or just as any other piece of music without the hamilton context. In fact in and out of context also give me two completely different experiences as a listener, both equally and extremely enjoyable.
My top two will always be satisfied and wait for it but my GOD Non stop is definitely a HARD contender.

If you could only pick TWO top favorites for act 1, I’d pick Satisfied and Yorktown. Nom-Stop and Wait For It as my honorable mentions.

I think you didn't give credit to how incredibly lyrically clever 'farmer refuted' is. That, or you didn't notice. It's pretty hard not to notice though
Farmer Refuted is one of my favourites, clever intertwining of the two parts and I love Thayne’s acting!
No, helpless is not better than Satisfied; not even close. BTW lol I like Farmer refuted and History has it's eyes on you (it's the harmonies). Satisfied is my favorite for sure. Renee knocked it out of the park.

yorktown is my favorite song in the whole show, every single time i watch the show i always forget that yorktown isn’t what ends act 1, its a perfect act ending song because it just drives and drives and pushes so much energy and then everything drops out completely and you can practically feel every character waiting with baited breath as the white flag is waved, uncertain and hesitant to celebrate before they have this massive holy shit we did it moment and its insane to me
Oh man it's so hard to pick the best song of Act I. Non-stop, Satisfied, and My Shot are all fighting for that spot for me

I did my own tier list since you gave us that link! And I feel like ours varies a lot, but I think that's so cool! It's interesting to see how some songs affect us differently. My tier list:
Musical HoF: Satisfied, Wait for It
Stuck in your head: My Shot, Nonstop, Yorktown, Alexander Hamilton, Helpless
Can Vibe with it: History Has its Eyes on You, Farmers Refuted (probably controversial but it really clicks with my ADHD!), Guns & Ships, Right Hand Man, The Story of Tonight
Good Enough: Tomorrow There'll be More Of Us, Dear Theodosia, You'll Be Back, That Would be Enough, Aaron Burr Sir
Not For Me: Stay Alive, A Winter's Ball, The Schuyler Sisters, Ten Duel Commandments, The Story of Tonight (Reprise)
Just Kinda There: Meet Me Inside (I like it a lot more in Disney Plus, but I will always skip it when listening to the album), What Comes Next

Not putting You'll be Back in stuck in your head is a complete travesty, as months could pass without me even thinking about hamilton but that song will still randomly pop into my head out of no where. I completely respect your list overall though, totally valid.

If you like songs on history I would highly recommend Sabaton. It's a metal band and they make very good music based on historic events
Helpless better than satisfied - yes or no? My opinion? Satisfied is the one I listen to over and over and over again. She is an absolute beast - rapping and singing and the choreography and use of the stage is sick. That being said, Satisfied would be less impactful without Helpless and I'd be lying if I said I didn't listen to Helpless on repeat as well.. I'm probably not to be trusted because I named my goat Alexander Ramilton and during feeding time I tell him that he's young, scrappy and hungry.. Keep doing what you do. Can't wait for you to post the tier list for Act 2.

Saying history has its eyes on you deflates the ballon of energy as a negative to the song makes no sense as if you go from guns and ships right to Yorktown it feels weird it needs that lessening of energy.

You know, till today I thought I was the only one who noticed that thing in "Aaron Burr, Sir" when Burr sais "Fools who run their mouths off wind up dead" and then John Laurens comes in and is like "AH yo yo yo yo What time is it? Showtime!" and Burr slightly mentions in his direction (at least I feel like he does that) and sais "Like I said". And I hate and love it so much at the same time (what I hate about it is mostly, that John Laurens (next to Philip and Angelica) is one of my favourite characters in the show and he's one of three people to die. Of course Washington, Angelica and Hamilton's mother and cousin's deaths are also mentioned and for some part also take place during the play, but we actually see John, Philip and Alexander die.)
Also for me all three "Story of Tonight" versions sort of belong into top tier. I can't exactly put my finger on what it is about those songs that makes me love them so much but there definetly is something. Also for a long time I actually considered "Tomorrow there'll be more of us" as my favourite song in the show because somehow in every musical if someone dies it's my favourite character (with exeption of Into The Woods) and their death songs are alway my favourites somehow (same with for example "A Little Fall of Rain" in Les Misérables). And the funny part is that when I pick my favourite characters I don't know that they die yet. It somehow just happens. But I love death and drama, so that's probably another reason why I love these songs. (And yes, I also love "Blow us all away" and "Stay Alive (Reprise)" because of that. But for some reason "It's Quiet Uptown" never really got me.)
Last thing: It's probably a pretty unpopular opinion but I don't really like "Non-Stop" and "Yorktown" is also not one of my favourites. But I do think "Guns and Ships" deserves its rank in top tier. That one's just awesome. Props to Daveed for that. "Satisfied" is an easy top tier for me as well. Only the end of that belongs there not to mention the whole rest of the song. But I feel like "Helpless is just kind of boring. And up to now I've only heard one other who shares my opoinion (I do think there's more), but it just doesn't really do it for me. Btw, I also love "A WInter's Ball". It's also one of my favourites.

In Tomorrow There’ll Be More of Us you mention the blocking - Mulligan drinking from his flask and Lafayette falling to the ground - the Disney+ version doesn’t show that, does it? Took me several watches to even spot them up there! So thoughtful of LMM to put them in this scene - they were John Lauren’s’ friends too after all. Love Anthony Ramos’s voice
I personally think Wait for it and Satisfied should’ve been in the Hall of Fame category but I definitely see where you’re coming from and would love to see an Act 2 tier list
Here’s a suggestion for “musical-based stuff” …. Come From Away. There’s a video of it on Apple TV, or just the audio soundtrack is here on RUclips. I HIGHLY recommend the video though.. it’s the literal only reason I pay for Apple TV.
Seriously though… I’ve never shed so many tears for the whole range of emotions, with a musical EVER.
I love that Helpless See the beginning of Eliza Hamilton's relationship with her husband but But if you're going to compare Satisfied with anything you should do that would Burn.
I almost 100% agree with ur list!!!!! About 5 songs I decided to choose my top 2 n it took like 10 seconds at most. Guns & ships n Non-stop (nonstop first). First disagreement comes at yorktown vs satisfied. For me, Satisfied gets that 3rd place slot. Yorktown can go to 4th or 5th. It's a beautifully constructed song, but it doesn't match it for me. My real disagreement comes at Tomorrow There'll Be More Of Us (Laurens Interlude). I would place it at the end of the vibe one, or even midway through that part of the list. Knowing the irl context behind their relationship, seeing all those animatics n watching the lyric breakdowns. It's the closest to to tier out of the 3 story of tonight songs. I might even put it higher on another day, but I say vibe tier (n would have to temporarily rename vibe tier cuz that's just the wrong word for that lol)
