Hamilton: An American Musical is a sung-and-rapped-through musical by Lin-Manuel Miranda. It tells the story of American Founding Father Alexander Hamilton. Miranda said he was inspired to write the musical after reading the 2004 biography Alexander Hamilton by Ron Chernow.
The show draws heavily from hip hop, as well as R&B, pop, soul, and traditional-style show tunes. It casts non-white actors as the Founding Fathers and other historical figures. Miranda described Hamilton as about "America then, as told by America now."
It's my first time listening to Hamilton and my first time listening to "Weird Al" Yankovic - The Hamilton Polka.

All "unauthorized" Weird Al songs have videos based on the original videos as they cannot commercialize them and thus publish them for free somewhere online.
The lady Gaga parody he made (born this way i think) had the Gaga clips with Al's face set over it, which was a lot more effort than they spend on most of those "semi legal" songs.
No, ironically Lin-Manuel Miranda AND the cast totally loved this medley. Lin recorded himself reacting to hearing it the first time and the cast made a video where they dance and act to the music (and you won't believe what they made of the fart noise during the Schuylersister song...)
It's really funny to see both.

Lin's wife recorded Lin's reaction when he found out about this and listened to it for the first time. There's also a side-by-side of Lin's reaction with Jimmy Fallon's reaction (they're friends), and it's hilarious. ;)

I was disappointed that this wasn't a reaction to THAT video. I'm actually not personally a big Weird AL fan, but Lin is, and for that reason, seeing one of his boyhood dreams come true and his emotions in that moment makes it one of my favorite videos of all time.

Lin is actually a giant mega Weird Al fan. Seriously, search for the video where he talks about meeting Al for the first time and how hard he fanboyed. LoL. They've since become incredibly good friends and even found out while they were hanging out together that they both be getting stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame! :-)
And i love the video the cast recorded in their time off to the Polka... so funny. And a great sign of respect from one set of musicians to another, just like Weird Al's Polka is a great hommage to the play!

There is a video of LMM reacting to some of the Hamilton Polka. LMM is apparently a big Weird Al fan, so he just kicks out of Al polka-fying his work.
Yo... LMM is a HUGE Weird Al fan. You need to check out his reaction to hearing this the first time.
It isn't a Weird Al polka without the weird noises in the background.
You should listen to Hamilton in 7 minutes, by RANGE. Maybe is not as fun as this polka, but it's beautiful and it also sums up the whole musical, although you maybe enjoy it more with the animatic made by Ziksua.
You can also look for the Hamilton in 90 seconds, by Jacob Sutherland, which is way more summarized than the previous one, but this has a piece of every single song that appears in Hamilton and also it has an interesting coherence, so if you can listen to both in one video, I think that would be good 👌🏼

If I remember right, he said he imagined Ben Franklin sounding like Colin Meloy, asked them if they wanted to record it and their response was akin to “Uh does the pope shit in the woods? Of course we will.”
(Funnier still, someone asked a Ben Franklin historian what he thought about the song and his response was like “Well, I don’t think he’d swear so much, but the rest is pretty spot on.”
If you haven't heard 'Hardware Store' by Weird Al, the speed and word play are excellent. It's one that's never performed live because it's insanity.
I'm pretty sure I remember seeing it performed live once and his band members had scripted parts during the "would you look at all that stuff" section where they pick up one or two words as Al takes breaths. Also, if you listen closely, the "I'm going to the" bit is 3-4 layered tracks intended to be played by the full band.
Forty straight seconds of rattling off an itinerary list at mach speed without a breath.
i think the cat sound effect is because of the "tomcat" reputation

If we're down the Hamilton rabbit hole I need to recommend the Bad Lip Reading series "Axe-Assassin Albertson," in which, as the channel name suggests, the audio is replaced with lip readings that form its own nonsensical musical. It's five short-ish videos that have made me laugh extremely hard
And even I think you forgot to comment on at the very end of the accordion solo he very quickly says “and you’ll blow us all away”

You mentioned how LMM's face must have looked when he heard about this... Weird Al actually sent him the recording (just audio I think, not this video version) and LMM recorded his reaction to listening to it for the first time. You can find it on YT as well as an interview with LMM on a talk show where they played it as well.

I'm from rural Wisconsin. When I was in grade school in the 80s, we learned how to waltz, square dance, and polka in gym class. 😂

I saw him live back in May and it was INCREDIBLE
I feel like this wasn't just your first time hearing this, but your first time hearing one of Al's Polka medleys...yeah, they're all like this. And no, Al wasn't playing all the instruments here, just accordion. His band (and a bunch of other musicians) were playing the rest.

When you said Lin Manuel Mirada’s face when he heard what wire Al had done to Hamilton, I remembered there is a video of him reacting to this and the cast joking around and dancing and lip syncing to it

You are not obviously familiar with Weird Al 's polka medleys, they always have crazy sound effects 😜 I recommend the Hot Rocks Polka to compare... it's from the late 80s but pretty much all of his albums have a polka medley track 🥰
Absolutely this .. this medley pulls out all the polka stylings and sound effects Weird Al has used in his polka medleys over the years. It's truly a magnum opus in that respect

9:25 Weird Al plays the accordion, and I believe he knows a few other instruments, but he has a band playing most of the other instruments.
