@Exercise For Health - I just stumbled upon this video from RUclips recommendations, and I can’t thank enough. This is a brilliant video. I’m 35 years old, and since 4 years on a hypertension medication. My BP is lingering in the 125/ 88-90 zone with a low dose medicine. I am very keen on muscle building, and enjoyed strength training. However, my doctor had advised me to stay away from the gym. Thank you for the tips on avoiding the Valsalva through exhaling. I was under the impression that compound exercises using more muscles at once raised blood pressure more than isolated exercises only working one muscle
I am so glad I have found yr channel! I'm 55, just about to have a total rh hip replacement too, with high BP and on meds for that . Getting a bit active again is going to be my best thing.....mainly just want to be walking and doing the right stuff :)

Peter Guardamar Spain.
Sounds like you have white coat syndrome which is very common where anxiety of having B/P taken actually increases it. It might be good to try taking it 3 times a day: when you get up, in the middle of the day, and when you go to bed, and record the readings every day for a couple of weeks, so you can see any fluctuations. Your B/P will go up a bit during and shortly after exercise, but it will begin to drop again, so maybe try it about 2 hours after your morning walk and see what you get. Great that you're staying active though and great to hear from someone in Spain!
Thanks for this. Pandemic, stress & heredity brought on HBP, now I’m off meds due to side effects, just water pills, working holistic approach. Exhale on exertion, yes, good info., thanks for this.. alternate upper lower good too. I can’t seem to beat this low energy, age related/menopause.. relaxation techniques are also good to lower HBP, for eg. lay down for a few mins., brings BP down. Deep slow breathing is good too. Take care all.
I can't thank you enough for making this video, I've been struggling with this for a very long time, I even had to quit exercising at all to let my body recover figure out what I was doing wrong, and now I'm skinny fat. Thanks again
Brilliant video. I learnt that I am doing all the wrong exercises given my high BP. But rather then giving me an excuse to give up on exercises you gave me an alternative more beneficial one. BTW I'm surprised that exercises only reduces the pressure by 5 to 10 Mercury. I had hoped it would have been much more
I followed you yesterday morning to work on my BP but after the exercise I felt heart congestion and also felt like falling, could it be that I over did it or I did it incorrectly. Please advise me I don't want to base on high blood pressure drugs. Thanks

I believe all workout plans should be individualised as there are so many variations with one's health/ fitness/ ability etc. I obviously do this where I work in the UK for people that have been referred to me that I can assess face to face. However, I hope that the videos offer some general guidance for people, to help them manage their condition.
I was diagnosed with hypertension and after a month of practicing loe impact exercises my systolic is mostly 105-118 in the morning but now I want to bulk a little to gain some muscle
Very clearly laid out, simple, logical, to the point. Well done, chap! I’d imagine if I fluctuate between normal and Stage 1 hypertension, then I’d be best off taking a reading beforehand. Thank you for the excellent info!
Glad it was helpful. Yes B/P fluctuates all the time, and you can get different readings within the space of 5 minutes, but look for what is average over a period of time to get an idea of whether it is Stage 1 or not.
@@ExerciseForHealth Right on, that makes sense. Although generally speaking, knowing my other factors such as my cholesterol, diet, recovering from smoking and alcohol overconsumption (2+ years ago) and elevated stress from past traumas, I definitely fall more on the stage 1 side of things even when given time to rest, although I can achieve a squeaky clean 120/80 result at times. Good to know the numbers to be weary at and as well as how to handle exercises accordingly. Thank you once again!

I hope this helps.
Very interesting. Glad I found this channel. Haven't heard any recommendations for exercising that tells you what not to do. I will try lowering my blood pressure using these tips.
Thanks for your advice, really appreciated. I started doing the other video yesterday to try to reduce my BP not sure but I'm pretty sure I've seen an instant result. As my BP was reduced last night and this morning when checked, after yesterday's afternoons one session.
I was told a few years ago that I may have pre hypertension by my eye doctor... She said the veins in my eyes were not straight but were all over the place... I've been in sports since elementary school and now I'm 35 and been boxing since 09'. With all of the miles sit ups sparring etc... I would still get tired during sparring and actual bouts. It's really frustrating not being able to compete at the level I know can because of fatigue.
It's unusual for high blood pressure to cause fatigue, but at least you're remaining active. Imagine what your health would be if your were doing nothing at all !
Thanks may the lord bless you. I like it because after offering such a great video, you have laboured to answer every question here. 😍🥰🥰. May the lord bless everyone, heal the sick and make many more people view this video
Lying down with legs elevated is used in the treatment for shock to allow blood to go back to the heart easier, so by definition, yes it will increase blood pressure due to the venous return, but not in a bad way if your heart rate isn't elevated and it will only be temporary. I wouldn't recommend someone with high B/P to lie down during intense exercise though.
I would add, it's a good idea to avoid exercises in which your head is bellow your body (e.g. decline presses). I prefer exercises in sitting or standing position to decline of even to horizontal position.
Hi very nice video , I learned a lot . I been diagnosed with high blood pressure and am running on the thread mill everyday . The doctor gave me pill which makes me sick and I feel dizzy , drowsy and got anxiety from the medication . I want to stop taking it so plz let me know anything more you have that I could do . Do you have a healthy routine for at home exercisers? I'm 76, covid long hauler, who has jogged and exercised for years and eat very low carb, just a bit overweight but strong and flexible. I seem to have POTS now, some lung ache way before being out of breath, and have had 2 high bp reading in offices - at home systolics range 116-150. Both of my calesthenic routines include isometrics, isolation, and over the head moves, so thanks for those tips. God bless ❤🙏❤
I have done a number of exercise videos you can follow. Take a look at the playlist here (most of which will be suitable for your health conditions): ruclips.net/p/PLf9i8qFtMBBK1VBEA-IlSw7VrXxrvxHUF
I really appreciate this video. I’m 28, got high blood pressure after having my baby 3 years ago. I’m on one medication daily and have an average of 120/80 on medication. I have been trying out my local yoga studio and they do hot yoga. Is doing this a bad idea? I tried it once and didn’t have an issue but I don’t want to do more harm to my body than good.
It should be OK. The heat/ humidity in the room may cause your B/P to drop, so if you're going from a very warm and humid environment to a cold one, this can spike the B/P but only in the short term (a bit like dipping into a cold plunge pool or ice bath). Just make sure you stay warm when you leave the class to allow your body temperature to come down gradually so the blood pressure gradually stabilises.
Im 25 years old and have been taking medication for to reduce blood pressure for 4 years now. I used to be an athlete and im well built too and not overweight. I weigh around 178-180lbs and im 5'11. My resting bp has been around 130/80. Recently ive joined a gym because of the fact i want to do strength training and reach my natural limit. With this bp would it be wise to pursue strength training if i warmup before my heavy lifting and cool down as well?
I'm 20 years old. I have been doing sports for years. I started basketball at the age of 10 and played for 6-7 years. I started fitness at the age of 16. After doing powerlifting for 1 year, I started working in bodybuilding style. I went to the internal medicine department today and the doctor said that I have 14/8 BP and that I need to reduce salt. My question is how should I work. Before 2-3 weeks my BP was always normal, it was in the range of 11.5-12.5systolic 70-85diastolic pulse= 65-100 BMI 25-26 6.3feet 211lb BTW thanks for the information very helpful
Based on your age and what I think your B/P is (140/80?), it is something to keep monitoring. Your B/P isn't considered "very" high, so most exercises you choose should be OK within the guidance I've provided in this video. However, I'm also aware of people undertaking bodybuilding programmes that have increased B/P. Whether this is due to the type of training they're doing or whether it's other factors they make changes to within their lifestyle I don't know, but my advice would just to be cautious in your approach to stay healthy.
What about running and cycling You’ve missed probably the most important and the natural way of exercising. It’s so wonderful to be out there instead of in a sweaty gym where you get show pony’s showing off Cheers have a great day
Yes walking, running, cycling, swimming are all staple advice on this channel. This one was more aligned to certain exercises that people do in the gym/ exercise classes.
I’m only 19 and my Christmas gift was I had HBP, I can’t believe it!! I can’t eat the things I love anymore I can’t be the same anymore I love bodybuilding now I’m scared to even lift weights or run I just want to give up already
It could be a blip that's temporary. Don't get disheartened. Providing you stick to a healthy lifestyle (healthy eating/ regular exercise/ no smoking etc), you may find it will balance out after a year. Use this video link for risk of exercises if this helps as you will still be able to do most things: ruclips.net/video/OHVdYOggcco/видео.html
I exercise 5 times a week running and swimming Eat very well and Sustain a healthy weight 10/12 % body fat Blood pressure Still high Especially the bottom number
Great that you lead a healthy lifestyle as this will help reduce the risk for other associated conditions such as cardiovascular disease. In some cases, there is no reason why B/P is high in people, so continuing with your lifestyle choices is highly recommended.

I just doing planking during my sit ups everyday. On tip #4 you mentioned that doing planking is not good those who have high blood pressure. When i heard it im started about get nervous cause im doing this everyday.
Being in the plank position is an isometric exercise, as the body is static while contracting muscles, and it's this static contraction that can build blood pressure (while performing it). However, could you adapt the exercise so the body is moving e.g. plank jacks (moving one foot out to the side and back then repeat with the opposite foot) or plank up/ downs (going from a low plank on elbows to a high plank on hands and back down again). This would make the exercise more challenging therefore decreasing the length of time in the plank position and reducing the effects of a static contraction. I would also see if you can do this as your last core exercise and make sure you breathe with it.
I've started exercising again to get my BP down and I was doing literally everything wrong, for example I done a one minute plank and thought my head was going to explode and ended up with bloodshot eyes like you wouldn't believe.Loads of great advice in this video which is common sense when it's explained so well, thank you so much.

Glad it was helpful!
I'm Dealing with HBP. This was a very informative video....... THANK YOU!!!
You're welcome
Thanks!
Thanks! This is good 4 seniors 2know. Do what they can plus breathing correctly. I do push up standing up daily. Ready help.
Good 2 know not above ur head.
Good stuff!
I dont usually comment on videos but I really wanted to say "Thank you!" for all the tips! Im looking to take back my life after having chronic HBP for years (on 2 different meds) and wasnt sure how I should start when I go to the gym! Much appreciated! ❤

Thank you for the tips on avoiding the Valsalva through exhaling.
I've been diagnosed with a tiny pseudo-aneurysm in a vertebral artery and have been advised to avoid the gym because of the risks that come with valsalva (the aneurysm might burst). I'll take up your tip on reducing blood pressure through exhalation with my doctors and see if they can greenlight going to the gym.
Hope it helps. This one on aneurysms might also be of benefit to you: ruclips.net/video/aZG92qeZMa8/видео.html
@@ExerciseForHealth Cheers!
Thank you .I watch your BP related videos on repeat . Your each line is full of knowledge and so important.
I appreciate that!
Great tips. No lifting above the head and consider compound exercises. Don't hold your breath (Valsalva maneuver); Thanks !!
No worries!
I was under the impression that compound exercises using more muscles at once raised blood pressure more than isolated exercises only working one muscle
Pressure is up...started walking while listening to you...thanks for information...
Hope the info helps
I am so glad I have found yr channel! I'm 55, just about to have a total rh hip replacement too, with high BP and on meds for that . Getting a bit active again is going to be my best thing.....mainly just want to be walking and doing the right stuff :)
Well done and welcome. Check out my hip replacement video for sample exercises that might also help you here: ruclips.net/video/Qs_PLGbY6eM/видео.html
Just discovered your chanel it is really lnformative and easy to understand, i am 72 male and have high blood pressure i walk for one hour before breakfast every day but my pressure stays high even after rest, my problem is i cannot take my pressure even at home as it stresses me and forces it higher have to take strong meds but the after affects are not good, any tips? great video, Thanks.
Straight to the point , Thank you 😊
Glad you like it.
Great, thank you for this comment.
Wow! this was so informative. Brilliant. Thank you so much.

I can't thank you enough for making this video, I've been struggling with this for a very long time, I even had to quit exercising at all to let my body recover figure out what I was doing wrong, and now I'm skinny fat. Thanks again
Glad it has helped you.
@@ExerciseForHealth yea welcome
Very well explained much needed video for the people with hypertension wanting to lift weights
Thank you :-)
Brilliant video. I learnt that I am doing all the wrong exercises given my high BP. But rather then giving me an excuse to give up on exercises you gave me an alternative more beneficial one. BTW I'm surprised that exercises only reduces the pressure by 5 to 10 Mercury. I had hoped it would have been much more
Excellent, well done, and I'm glad it has helped you.

Absolutely enjoyed his talks and it’s phenomenal how he addressed the issue of blood pressure
Thank you for you feedback!
I followed you yesterday morning to work on my BP but after the exercise I felt heart congestion and also felt like falling, could it be that I over did it or I did it incorrectly. Please advise me I don't want to base on high blood pressure drugs. Thanks

THIS GUY IS GREAT...PEOPLE HE KNOW ABOUT THE HEART...NOT MANY EXPERTS KNOW THIS AND ABOUT THE HEART WHEN IT COMES TO TRAINING THEIR CLIENTS
Thank you, I appreciate the comments you have made.
thank you so much could you plz make workout plan for somebody if somebody need
I believe all workout plans should be individualised as there are so many variations with one's health/ fitness/ ability etc. I obviously do this where I work in the UK for people that have been referred to me that I can assess face to face. However, I hope that the videos offer some general guidance for people, to help them manage their condition.
I was diagnosed with hypertension and after a month of practicing loe impact exercises my systolic is mostly 105-118 in the morning but now I want to bulk a little to gain some muscle
Great!
Thank you for this video

Could you do a video with exercises for high blood pressure, an actual class?
Hi there. Yes definitely!! All of the videos I've done in this playlist here: ruclips.net/p/PLf9i8qFtMBBK1VBEA-IlSw7VrXxrvxHUF will be suitable for people with high blood pressure. However, I do have plans to do a specific blood pressure related home exercise workout video over the coming months, but it will be similar to many of the home exercise ones on here so far. I hope this helps.
Very interesting. Glad I found this channel. Haven't heard any recommendations for exercising that tells you what not to do. I will try lowering my blood pressure using these tips.
Good luck
Thank you so much for explaining breathing techniques
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you so much! This encourages me to start working out. I always get light headed though. Do you know why that might be??
I can't answer your question unfortunately, so best to speak with your doctor if you are concerned.
At last someone who's not showing off how muscular and knowledgeable he is, or talking to super athletes. And it makes sense
Ha ha, love this comment! 😂 Brilliant 👍
Thanks for your advice, really appreciated. I started doing the other video yesterday to try to reduce my BP not sure but I'm pretty sure I've seen an instant result. As my BP was reduced last night and this morning when checked, after yesterday's afternoons one session.
Glad it was helpful!
Your low on iodine
Thanks may the lord bless you. I like it because after offering such a great video, you have laboured to answer every question here. 😍🥰🥰. May the lord bless everyone, heal the sick and make many more people view this video
Thank you so much
Thank you sir for this great video. I want to ask if lying down with elevated legs raises blood pressure? Thank you Sir for your help
Great
THANKS VERY IMP INFORMATION IT HELPED ME A LOT
You are most welcome
Hi very nice video , I learned a lot . I been diagnosed with high blood pressure and am running on the thread mill everyday . The doctor gave me pill which makes me sick and I feel dizzy , drowsy and got anxiety from the medication . I want to stop taking it so plz let me know anything more you have that I could do . I walk in the park do 5000 steps as well .
It sounds like you're doing really well! Look out for a home exercise workout to reduce blood pressure coming to this channel in June.
Take ur meds @ nite.😇!

You just saved many lives. Thank you.
Wow!! Thank you.
Thank you for sharing this very important subject! Wondering what the stablished blood pressure is during running a marathon?
Your systolic reading will be up, but being aerobic, you probably won't see much change in the diastolic reading.
Great information thank you!

Thank you. Very informative. I have been doing some exercises that I should not do such as planks and lifting above my head.
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you so much. So Cleary explained. And i have got lot my doubt cleared. 👍
You are most welcome
You can still do strength training with a resting BP of 130/80, but just be aware that extreme weight lifting will pose an increased risk.
Before 2-3 weeks my BP was always normal, it was in the range of 11.5-12.5systolic 70-85diastolic pulse= 65-100
BMI 25-26
6.3feet 211lb
BTW thanks for the information very helpful
Based on your age and what I think your B/P is (140/80?), it is something to keep monitoring. Your B/P isn't considered "very" high, so most exercises you choose should be OK within the guidance I've provided in this video. However, I'm also aware of people undertaking bodybuilding programmes that have increased B/P. Whether this is due to the type of training they're doing or whether it's other factors they make changes to within their lifestyle I don't know, but my advice would just to be cautious in your approach to stay healthy.
What about running and cycling
You’ve missed probably the most important and the natural way of exercising. It’s so wonderful to be out there instead of in a sweaty gym where you get show pony’s showing off
Cheers have a great day
Yes walking, running, cycling, swimming are all staple advice on this channel. This one was more aligned to certain exercises that people do in the gym/ exercise classes.
Thank you heaps for your tips. It's really helpful. Regards from Nepal. 🙏
So nice of you, thank you
You are God send Richard .Can I do push ups and sit ups with blood pressure as a part of exercise? Kindly advise

I’m only 19 and my Christmas gift was I had HBP, I can’t believe it!!
I can’t eat the things I love anymore
I can’t be the same anymore
I love bodybuilding now I’m scared to even lift weights or run
I just want to give up already
It could be a blip that's temporary. Don't get disheartened. Providing you stick to a healthy lifestyle (healthy eating/ regular exercise/ no smoking etc), you may find it will balance out after a year. Use this video link for risk of exercises if this helps as you will still be able to do most things: ruclips.net/video/OHVdYOggcco/видео.html
This is really, really good. : ) I'm doing Level 3 Ex Ref and it reminded me of several things to make explicit on my planning.
Glad it was helpful! That's a great course you're doing too :-)
Actually isometrics esp wall sitting has been shown to be best to decrease BP
You obviously haven't seen my more up to date video on isometrics here: ruclips.net/video/0ds1ipA2VIc/видео.html
I exercise 5 times a week running and swimming
Eat very well and Sustain a healthy weight 10/12 % body fat
Blood pressure Still high
Especially the bottom number

Thanks for sharing your knowledge 😘🇵🇹🇵🇹🇵🇹🇵🇹
