    My goodness Paul when you finished shaping that log and put it up and drove it together on that other log I was impressed. I actually thought of some Japanese wood box cut in precisely perfect little parts that fit together. Nice work Paul. You know I find it being a nice thought that you have the same working skills being a master carpenter that or Lord and Savior Christ Jesus has. God bless my friend and please keep the videos coming. • @ddunn7603
    @ddunn7603 4 года назад

    Hi again! I have enjoyed watching you cutting the notches for the plates. I love the precision of your notches. I have for years noticed that for most of be better built old cabins and particularly those that are larger, the builders turned the plate logs flat. I am sure they did this to provide extra strength to the plate, to resist bowing out over time from the thrust of the rafters supporting the roof, which would of course allow the roof to sag in the middle. I guess most cabins built nowadays avoid this by using trusses or collar beams. I know mine is. I am guessing you will use trusses or collar beams on this one. Have you ever built a cabin with the plate logs turned flat? Is there any other reason you see for doing this?
    Keep up the great posts!

    • @TheBeardedCarpenter
      @TheBeardedCarpenter  4 года назад

      D Dunn Howdy- yes, I have put up plates like you’re talking about on a historical restoration. The old cabin I’m restoring now has plates like that also. I don’t think I will have much outward thrust of the roof load. The plates are locked good and the plates are pretty substantial. They also will be anchored down through four rounds of logs. I sure appreciate you watching and the kind words. God bless you
