Great Video Vince, loved the ending on the cinderblock. I knew you had to find out on your own. When you go to some trade shows and they are demoing things like drill bits, they never seem to work as good as the show bits, LOL. I have all of these older model of tapes and love them all. I prefer the smaller model because it fits in my vest so much better and its not so big and bulky cause I do a lot of trim work. Keep up the good work brother the channel is growing and growing!!!!
I’m an apprentice electrician that works omg the commercial setting and my favorite is the Milwaukee 25’ magnetic wide blade. Compact take with all the bells and whistles with incredible standout. I also have my Milwaukee 16’ auto lock that doesn’t have a magnet for my small measuring tasks that doesn’t require the use of magnetization out on the end of the tape. It’s got a skinny blade and the standout isn’t great, so when point to things in discussion for pipe runs, etc, I find myself battling the bend break war of the tape in mist of a collaborative discussion with a coworker. All in all, Milwaukee is my go to with a lot of my tools in my trade, they have been cranking out some good tools lately, I love it
I got one of those and I can attest to the sturdiness of that tape measure. I was loading a 5x8 trailer with wood planks and concrete, which weighed in at 4,500 lbs. Well, i didn’t realize I dropped my tape measure and I ran over it with the trailer. Still works like a dream.
Those look great and I was impressed by the claim of an 80 got drop but I was curious if it was onto dirt or concrete. I went to the website and their claim has to astrix behind it but then I couldn't find anywhere on the page where that was referenced. Do you know if they are claiming a dirt landing or a hard surface?
Magnetic 16 ft Milwaukee is my all time favorite for its weight, compact, stand, and easiness to spot. The 25 ft is my backup and any measurements longer than 16 I use my Bosch 65 ft. Laser. So far I haven't broken any and if I do I have some spares to replace it immediately. I buy them on buy one take one deals
I have the 25 foot wide blade no magnet stud replacement version. I love it except one thing I noticed is at 5 feet the tape does not reel back in without a second hand to help it. My compact Milwaukee 25 foot tape snaps back without any assistance.
I only use for diy wood working. I really like the wide tape small compact size. I still learning about the markings on the tape measure. I appreciate your great videos.
@@VCGConstruction I unfortunately had to leave early but what I saw was great. I am trying to learn how to drywall for my kitchen remodel. Thanks for the comment. Love your videos.
Red square is the common separation for studs that match an 8´ sheet, 6 spaces with 7 studs. The black diamond separates the same 8´sheet in 5 spaces to spare one stud. Black square using only even foot marks, separates in 4 spaces and spare another stud. All depends on the stiffness requiered for the structure and local codes. Another thing that I learned today thanks to your challenge, 2 more are missing for today Gerardo
The 16’ stud is the best tape measure I’ve used since it came out Love the covering that keeps it from tearing, kinking. Plus doesn’t have that gynormous silver magnetic end
I pulled a 22 oz hammer up 26' 7" from the bottom of a duct chase with a standard blade 35' magnetic milwaukee tape, impressive! However, ive had multiple versions of milwaukee tapes, they all seem to twist over 4-5' after a week or two of use... always to the left
It seems like Milwaukee measures their standout different from how Stanley and Dewalt do it. Can we get a side by side comparison measuring them all the same way (either up in the air like Milwaukee or parallel to the ground like Stanley)?
For a 25’ measuring tape, the Stud is needlessly heavy and bulky for all day use. The Milwaukee 25’ Wide Blade Magnetic is much more practical. The Wide Blade isn’t advertised for 80-foot drops like the Stud, but it’s smaller, lighter, the design is almost identical to the Stud, and it’s sufficiently durable.
Magnetic tape measures come in handy when you walk stilts. I even tape little pieces of metal to my pencils. It's really shity if I drop my tape. 🤷🏼♂️
I’m a welder/fabricator and am very very rough on tape measures. I strictly used Stanley fat max only, but recently got my hand on a Milwaukee tape, so far so good.
I love Milwaukee power tools but I DO NOT like their tape measures. I spent $29 on my milwaukee magnetic tape measure and it tore the first day I brought it to work. I bought a Lufkin Shockforce and I’m very happy with it. Lufkin or Stanley for me.
I've had my 26 foot 5 meter for over three years through two four floor slabs and all through tenant improvement as an electricians and is still kicking it. The rubber molding is peeling off but the blade and hook are still good with no need for replacement.
I like the feel of the Milwaukee tape measure over any other brand. My current magnetic 26 foot / 5 meter has been through two four story slabs all seasons , tenant improvements, a jail as an electrician the blade and hook still intact. The rubber molding is all peeling off but it still functions well so whatever.
Im a frame and finish guy and the diamond layout i know one thing is for when u buy engineered floor system sometimes it calls for the 19"3/16 layout instead of 12" or 16" o.c. mayne the spans are engineered for it u need less material i dont know
i have about all of them in 15ft. i'm a cabinet build so i never really use more the 16ft. all with the magnetic. and a 10ft led plus a 6ft attach to my belt just to get my measurements on the fly.
I live south east of PA its November 2019 but I have still not seen these new tapes anywhere! my local hardware stores that specialize in selling Milwaukee products don't have them not even at my local home depot 🤔
I love Milwaukee but the stud I had was horrible 😔. It folded over after 5' very hard to manage.. went with something else but I definitely love my impact and drill
Hey Vince, love watching the channel. I am a Building and Tech manager at a FEC. I happen to be legally blind. I was wondering if you had any recommendations for tape measures and levels for those of us who are legally blind. Keep up the great work on the videos. You’re a champion!
My favorite is the 0225M & can’t to buy. Like It cuz it’s compact, has that wide blade & the Magnetic hook, which is very helpful to me...... Have a feeling a lot of ppl are gonna want & like this model; as it offers the best of both worlds😅👍🏻 Cheers👊🏼
I have the original stud tape, my first one ended up with a permanent crease around the 1ft mark, was able to get it exchanged ( barely) . The second one has worked great , my only complaint is both of them had to be hand retracted , and sometimes wouldn’t go all the way back into housing without pulling the tape the max ft and slowly feeding it back in . ( I rarely meet the 25ft mark) other than that I love the tape
Sachin Dath I got lucky , the girl was told to . Then another woman came over and said they weren’t allowed to exchange it .. I had already brought the replacement up there . She took it an said they couldn’t do it . Manager told her she already ok’d it. Asked about the warranty and never got any info. I took the replacement an got outta dodge lol.
And THATS WHY I FOLLOW YOU!!!! I got that one 48-22-0225M ones from Big R around here closing out and it said 14’ so me and a buddy tested it and got to 13’ 7” with me (a 6’ 3” 290) standing on a ladder both arms holding it above my head steady!!! Lol
The red squares and a black diamonds are both for the same thing. They're both going to be indicative of stud placement. Basically if you want 16 inch centers you will end up with seven studs on an 8 foot sheet and if you go with the 19.2 inch centers which is the Black diamond you will get six studs per 8-foot sheet
I have a Milwaukee 16ft Autolock. It's a defect. The first inch is off by almost an 1/8 :( I emailed Milwaukee but so far, no response....Otherwise, I like the tape measure, but for now it's back to my 25' Stanley Powerlock.
Hopefully, the magnet stays on the tape better than the old one, which broke off mine the first time I used it. I was, shall we say less than impressed. Stay safe out there brothers!! And have a great weekend!!
All markings are for stud locations. Most common are 16 inches, others that have been used are 24" and the black diamonds are 19.2 on center stud locations. They set these on center locations to work for 8 feet to work best with 8 foot drywall and plywood/OSB.
I can understand the double-sided mocking of the tape measure Thursday I was doing a job how is hanging shelves and this guy's garage if it's open beam you just about to the bean but having sheetrock ended up mounting two-by-fours on the bottom but at one point what added measure 48 inches over the way I was positioned I wasn't able to get the reading on my tape measure so I've been nice to have the measurements on the bottom
Nah, there's no need to run yours through a cinder block. I believe the demo. And I am not in favor of purposely trying to destroy a perfectly good tool. I like both the compact and the Stud. I have both. The Stud is for actual construction and the compact is for estimates and sizing up the job.
The foot marks are so you know how many wasted steps back to the cutting table, the 16’s are your nail spacing for hurricane zones and the black diamonds are to space your beers out for the length of the day
I own a 16’ which I like. Do you know if Milwaukee makes a engineers tape? I’ve been looking for one however haven’t seen one as of yet. Please advise. Thanks
I got pissed on the top of my ladder one time maybe 20 feet up my tape got stuck on a window and I got so pissed I threw it as hard as I could at the cement below and nothing happened to the tape at all. the only thing that has happened over time is the tape itself has warped a little maybe at the 6 inch mark
Yo Vince @vcgconstruction is the standout like we seen in videos at nps-2019 ? I appreciate that information thanks cuz my crescent tools Lufkin 16 ft shockforce they say 14 ft standout I am lucky I got 12 ft drop test I have not tried they say 100 ft
I prefer the wide blade it feels a little lighter than the new stud. The 12' standout compact is like the stanly fatmax equivalent in weight and standout I wish they put the wire belt clip on that one. They all have issues with the 6" tape guard falling off when wet
Btw the real reason its called the stud besides the durability is its the exact width of a stud 2×4 so you can use it to mark off stud widths which is why they cant it make it compact
Vince, the finger notch and the magnetic clip pre-dates the stud. Although the magnet might be stronger... The clip on the stud is crap! Let me explain: it has a single screw, and it failed a lot quicker than the previous generation. I would still be using my old one, but the tapes keep breaking... My bet is that the clip will fail now, rather than the tape. We need a good clip, Vince!
Great video love the content yes the stand out is good but i wish they would come up w a way to get them to not roll over for example when on a ladder reaching out w the tape flat on the wall measuring from the corner to pull a measurement for sheetrock they tend to twist and collapse at a very short stand out as do all tapes i think if Milwaukee solved that problem they'd Seal the deal on the market i know you have a lot of pull maybe this is a question you could get out to them don't get me wrong love the tape measure i have 3 and won't use anything else and that is my only complaint like i said w any tape would love to see Milwaukee solve that issue and remain on top other than that i love your review you cover all aspects of a tool honestly w no trickery thank you you have saved me a lot of money buying tools blindly only to have them fail w ultimately leads to less money and food on my familys table so thank you for your hard work in bringing the content you do for us out here trying to make an honest living
My concerns about the Milwaukee tape measures I'm looking for a 35 ft tape measure that has fracturer dimensions on it everybody talks about all of the other features of Milwaukee and not the fractional
Compact wide blade is my favorite. Nobody wants a major growth coming off their hip. BUT we should have a tape that can stand out at least 8-10' at the worst. First tape I ever bought as a Professional was a Milwaukee tape. Because everyone had a Stanley and no one was stealing my tape without me noticing.
I think the lock is the first thing that usually breaks in the Milwaukee tapes I tried to stick to them I had about ten and I just recently switched up
Your tests look perfect. I was hoping for longer standout straight. Currently using Stanley FatMax Xtreme as my main though I got a Fastcap ProCarpenter it only has 7ft straight standout though the markings are nice not having to think on the exact measurement ex. 7/16 or 11/16 which saves a little time on roof repairs. I like the wideblade compact size though since I sometimes lend my tape measure for 1 measurement I would buy the stud since I want a working tape measure if they drop it.
I say the regular Milwaukee tape measure is better then any of those i use the regular 25ft everyday with tile and concrete it last great with concrete inside of it

You should do a one on one comparison of the v2 fatmax vs the stud each in 25 and 30 ‘variation

So what is the difference between them anyway? The magnetic, stud and wide all look to be the exact same.

Did they fix the issue with the blade always breaking around the 3.5” or 8” marking? My experience is that happens a lot with Milwaukee tapes.
Only time will tell

Red 16” on center stud layout
19.2” black diamond on center for flor trusses 3.5” wide
And magic number 96” why....??
Sometimes u get a certain span of scissor trusses that require the diamond span... kinda silly . 19 3/8th or whatever right
Maybe to indicate equivalence to 8 ft. Drywall, plywood, distance from ceiling and flooring normally 96". It's only my guess and I could be wrong.
Sheets are typically 8 ft / 96” long
@honda 97 and @Dylan Mounsey bingo... plus it’s also where 16 and 19.2 all meet on the tape! So on the stud it’s red and had the diamond.
Can you a video on the Millwaukee tool 6ft 2M tape measure

Would be good to to see what the other brands are doing also in the shop like how you did these, perhaps another tape measure video is in order?
the 16 inch increments are for stud width
Black Dimond’s are for floor joist
16 inches is standard stud layout and the diamond layout is for a roof system
the tape has red every sixteen inched because i don't know about the US but in Canada studs have to be 16" center to center
Daniel Oosterhoff same in the States.

I wish all tapes had the finger lock, I mean they can all be fingers locked but the Milwaukee design is handy
Looks like a killer line of tape measures
I know this is an older video but the 48-22-0225M does not list that is has the EXO360 protection.

Does it have a metric measurement?
The Red Marking are for the Metal Stud frame stud. It's always every 16" or 24" Bld. Code.

I prefer the wide blade it feels a little lighter than the new stud. The 12' standout compact is like the stanly fatmax equivalent in weight and standout I wish they put the wire belt clip on that one. They all have issues with the 6" tape guard falling off when wet
I do know about the diamonds and red marks as well but only because the video I just watched an hour ago explained that it was for framing 😂
Sorry buddy. Lufkin 25 night eye. 100foot drop rating, and a dark mode blade, with a 14ft stand out. Done it in person. Couldn't be happier
Btw the real reason its called the stud besides the durability is its the exact width of a stud 2×4 so you can use it to mark off stud widths which is why they cant it make it compact
Black diamonds should denote 19 3/16" truss markings
@suckmyninja Just show me where that's at on my measuring tape, and I'll use it!LOL
Pretty sure Milwaukee measures the number at the tape, not the support hand. But the hand makes more sense.
New video idea. 99% don’t know what the marks on a tape mean. Congratulations on 118k

I'm not seeing links to the new versions in the description. Can anyone hook a brother up? Amazon.com is my preference...
I think the lock is the first thing that usually breaks in the Milwaukee tapes I tried to stick to them I had about ten and I just recently switched up
Thanks for the feedback!
Stud 16 inch center, rafter 19 inch center, different black marks
Your tests look perfect. I was hoping for longer standout straight. Currently using Stanley FatMax Xtreme as my main though I got a Fastcap ProCarpenter it only has 7ft straight standout though the markings are nice not having to think on the exact measurement ex. 7/16 or 11/16 which saves a little time on roof repairs. I like the wideblade compact size though since I sometimes lend my tape measure for 1 measurement I would buy the stud since I want a working tape measure if they drop it.
16 inches between center of studs diamond is 19 ish inches between engineered rafters
I say the regular Milwaukee tape measure is better then any of those i use the regular 25ft everyday with tile and concrete it last great with concrete inside of it
Great video I just bought one for my self
Stud and floor joists layout!
Looks like every break is right where you finger wax due to from pressure point from the weight of the extended part.
Correct
i’d like to see that mac daddy tape to be without a magnetic clip - i don’t need that
Great vid..! Guess it didn't measure up to the V.C.G. Test..!
