    You're 100% correct. Stop being brand loyal.
    My Milwaukee tape measure filled up with junk that the blade was dragging into the inside (and getting inside the mechanics via that silly finger brake hole). I got tired of it, so I placed it on top of a tree stump and shot it.
    I've been using a Harbor Freight HERCULES tape measure since then, I got it on sale for $10, and love it!

      I had one and I never use it anymore because it has an exposed metal hook that WILL bend when dropped. One metric I use when picking a tape measures is how easy it is to grab the hook and pull it out when wearing gloves or hooking onto something with the end of the tape when it is reeled up, after all you have to pull it out to use it, so its ease of use.

  • @steventicknor8059

    I had the wide blade and stud and they both had issues with the tape getting twisted and kinks within a couple of months. I just recently bought the tough series and within a day the thing broke so I returned it and the 2nd one a rivet in the hook broke off within a few weeks. I now use a Kobalt at least I know it’s cheap and if they all suck it may as well be cheap to replace.

    I am a big time Milwaukee fan boy. However, I am seriously disappointed with their tape measures. The blades all twist about 12”. This causing them to not stay hooked when I grab an end of a piece of lumber. I have purchased 4 Milwaukee tape measures and they all got twisted. Nome of my Stanley tapes have this problem.

  • @danbegin8532
    @danbegin8532 8 месяцев назад

    I'm a Nite-eye Shockforce G2 tape user, purely because the neon numbers against the black background is just easier for my eyes. I do like the FatMax and Atomic when using other people's tapes. I will say the Shockforce does have the same issue of the clip sticks below the tape body and is susceptible to damage if you are clumsy.

    I just wanted to share some of my knowledge on how tape measures are rated now. As stated, manufacturers use "reach" over "standout" commonly. Reach is actually standout plus 3 feet, the approximate length of an arm. This also explains why the standout tests looked as if it fell short of the ratings. Whenever purchasing, if you're looking at that metric, make sure you check which word they use in their rating.

    Watched this, after watching best tape measure by Project Farm. While I was satisfied with the testing he performed, I really enjoyed your readability test. That said everyone talking about Milwaukee and Stanly, I'd suggest watching Project Farms video. While readability is important, as a plumber, standout, and dirt resistance, and tape fading, are really important factors and TLDR Dewalt xp premium was basically flawless, with Stanley not working good as new but still good enough, and Milwaukee not useable anymore. Different crafts call for different tape measures.

    Please help me decide between "Bosch GSB 185 li" and "Makita HP333DWYE" which are available in India at approx similar price of 11700 indian Rupee INR (approx 140 US$)
    GSB 185 is brushless hammer drill on 18v batttery , vs Makita HP333D is a brushed hammer drill on 12v battery
    Talking to Makita India folks they said DF332DWYE is deprecated and so entry level brushless option from Makita I don't have.
    Bosch is pretty commonly available in India compared to Makita , so Makita brand is attractive between the two options.

    One note reach is not same as standout as it adds 3' for the reach of the arm. So to get standout you have to subtract 3' when it says reach. So at 10.1' the Dewalt met it's claim.

    Own both plus others. Not biased to any brand but i dont like the Milwaukee as much as the DeWalt in these current versions as they seem to wear out quicker (coating) plus rather have a slightly slower retraction to prevent tip damage. But use what tou like. And yes my antique Stanley still works great so will take that over both of these.

    Milwaukee tapes look nice, unfortunately, they are very resistant to water, dirt, and scratches. Additionally, the retraction speed test is unnecessary because hitting the tape's end after several hundred hits will cause the measuring tape to become uncalibrated. I have owned tapes from Stanley and Dewalt for several years and would not switch them for Milwaukee. If you think otherwise, then do a test by retracting the tape using sandpaper with equal pressure on each measuring tape and then throwing them into water for 24 hours. Because this is comparable to real-life conditions.
