    This concept looks very practical.
    At that price it is pretty worry free.
    Thanks for the heads up. MFT version, cool!
    The one lense idea keys in with a few rolls of Tri X, I just scanned, where a 17mm lived on my camera for a week.
    These shots of the cost of the state of Maine where never printed.
    Wow these 1980 photos mean more now than the did then.
    Thanks Chris

    I bought the Leica M mount version of this lens direct from China (I'm in the USA). Mine is a bit different from yours in that it has a small focus tab at the 4 o'clock position (looking at it from the front) rather than the focus ring like yours. I shot mine on my Leica M Type 262 digital M and my Ricoh GXR-Mount APS-C cameras.
    Your lens appears to be of better optical quality than the copy I received. Mine, like others have complained about, exhibits magenta fringing on the full right 1/8th of the image, and ever so slightly on the left side of the image. Much of it I can process out in post but not all of it. Mine also doesn't seem to focus well to infinity at the edges. Center area of the image is nicely sharp but not so the outer areas.
    Compared to some of the other 7 Artisan and TT Artisan lenses I have that were obviously more complicated to design and build but of equal or lesser cost, I consider the 7A 35/5.6 rather poor image quality. I know they can do better, I hope they do in future versions of this lens. I like the idea of this compact lens but would prefer better execution of build/optical quality.
    Don

      Thanks for sharing. I don't think this lens was ever meant to be super sharp across the frame, but that color fringing sounds bad and can ruin your photos.

    I've got one on my Leica CL. It's a great little lens, although I have to say that the more expensive 4 different M-mount versions are more decorative, have a focussing lever and come with a leather case. I use it in Manual mode. I quite agree about over-running infinity, and a detent at that point would be a great advantage. I did consider buying the M-mount version and using my Leica M-L adapter, but that negates having such a small pancake lens.

      Thanks for sharing. True, the M version looks better.

    Great review, Matti!
    I initially thought the review was for MFT but then I noticed that you were holding a much thicker camera and got surprised by how that lens shrunk the size of that camera with the small format (35mm) sensor!
    Regarding your question, lens choice definitely changes my mood and practice. When I have the MFT 20mm F/1.7 II on, I feel truly powerful because I know I am carrying a kit that is virtually invisible (during street photography) and will produce images with film-like characteristics. When I have my MFT 25mm F/1.8 7Artisans on, I feel a bit more creativity kicking in because of the characteristics of the lens where there is very low flare resistance and soft edges almost all throughout. That lens is a lot of fun for me, because I am used to MFT lenses being really relatively sharp and high performance.
    Beautiful photos, by the way!

      @@mattisulanto Welcome. That's good to know. The S5 is a good 35mm companion for the MFT then, especially with that pancake lens!

    I wish third-party manual lens makers would at least add contacts for aperture control and EXIF data.

    Thank You very much for this and all the other interesting videos on this channel. For me, as a MFT Photographer, it would be very kind to hear something from your assessment to the 7Artisans 35 mm /1.2 lens ..... may be in the future?

    I like simple things. They let me concentrate on the content of the photo. Technical perfection will not save a photo if you have mashed up the content. But with strong content and composition, you can easily overlook technical imperfections.

      That is very true and way too many camera enthusiasts concentrate too much on the technical side.

      Thanks. I did not shoot any video on the lens, but I see no reason why you couldn't do that. In my opinion that lens is better suited for photography, though.

    I have the cheaper Olympus type lens - they made 2 - it fell apart.
    Looking at this for my G100 and Olympus mft cameras…or one in Leica M for my Ricoh GXR.

    Been using a similar setup: S5 with older Leica Summicron-m 35mm. It's not quite as small, but fits in a large jacket pocket. Unfortunately the lens is only on loan to me

    f5.6 is a strange fixed aperture for a 35mm lens. Compact film camera lenses tended to be f10/11 for front to back focus. A lever for f5.6 or f11 would have been ideal, with the dynamic range and high ISO performance of the S5 taking care of image quality.
    Focused at 8 feet, a full frame 35mm lens at f5.6 is sharp approximately 6ft to 12 ft. At 5 ft it's in focus 4 ft to 6ft, which may or may not be enough for street photographers. This lens falls between a "toy" body cap lens, and a proper pancake lens like the Canon aps-c 24mm or 40mm with a full f2.8 to f16 aperture range.

    • @mattisulanto
      @mattisulanto  3 года назад

      It's a bit strange fixed aperture and that's why you have to focus carefully every time.

    • @d30gaijin
      @d30gaijin 3 года назад

      I agree. f/5.6 is a bit strange. I'm going to try making a mask to stop mine down to f/8 and f/11 and see how it performs.

      Whether you think I'm honest or not is up to you. Like I said in the video, I got the lens for free and that's why I have to turn on the paid promotion option. That is required by RUclips, but not everyone obeys that. There are many reviewers on RUclips who don't tell you if they got the product for free and that is not honest, if you ask me.
