Wow. Smooth presentation (no ums, ers, ahs), lots of light so you can see what's going on, subject covered effectively.I have used some other youtube videos for car maintenance and repairs but this is my first foray into rings/pistons and stuff like that. I think I got lucky and found a good source right off the bat. Will look for your other videos, thanks!
Finally you covered the problem that I had, which was the ring gap and the degrees apart. I needed to actually see it. Of course I’m a 14 year old boy building a stage 2 predator on my own sooo.
I know this video was made ages ago but even after following all these steps and using the Piston Ring Compressor tool I still can't get the rings to compress tight enough to get into the bore hole. While the piston and Rings are still in the Compressor tool if i look inside I can see the rings popping out on one side inside the tool. They won't evenly compress for some reason. I've been stuck on this issue for almost a Month now and it's driving me crazy!
I replaced the piston before all by hand, I'm not sure how. I have a 38mm piston that I'm trying to get in the bore. It's for a German moped. The only piston compressor I can find is $25. That seems like a lot of money for like 1-2 uses. I'm going to try and use 1.5" tubing instead and makeshift my own compressor. I'll let you know how it goes.
If you leave the connecting rod and just pull the head off how do you compress the rings to slide the head down. Saw this done in another video maybe that’s not recommended?
Greetings! New subscriber. Thanks for a quick but informative video!! The ring pliers…there are several types, do you find any one better than another? Looking forward to viewing your other videos. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge!!
Hey bro I just saw u video .. I just go 98 intruder ., blue smoke come after the bike die in a red light I started agiain I have to keep givin gas to no die ...I get home I turn off and after 20 minutes I start again is when the blue smoke come from the pipe for like 5 seconds a lot later less and less till no more later nothing I have been riding for like 2 days and no more smoke ... what u think tha happen ? Thanks ..., great great video
mine slowly reveals gradual amounts of oil creeping up from the cylinder walls. None of the rings are broken and look fine, the cylinder wall looks perfect, it shows the original machining texture
@@friedchicken1 if you do that, you might warp or have excessive tension on the rings. Its better to buy a cheap set of new rings than to try and add tension to the ones you have.
Once I upgrade the connecting rod, piston, flywheel, camshaft, etc. will it be safe to remove the governor and put the engine through hell of a high rpm?
yup. I doubt you can get it to a super high rpm without doing a lot of modifications for flow, getting timing just right, and having a wild cam with upgraded valvetrain.
Hey, this is my brother's account but I only expect to get 6300 rpms, as that is what the fillet flywheel, connecting rod, performance piston, performance camshaft, upgrade valves and valvesprings can handle. I am trying to do this to a Predator 670cc and place on an insane off road go kart.
Also, IIRC there isnt a huge selection in performance parts for the predator 670cc. I do know that the honda gx390 stuff would fit the honda gx620 etc, but you would have to do a lot of research to see piston size, rod length, rod end sizes etc in order to figure out what to get for the predator. If you do the math, it is actually cheaper to get a decent used motorcycle engine with insane hp for a lot less than hopping up an engine like that.
The rings that came with the piston (flat top piston ) from go power sports , the waffle one seems to be huge and won’t compress. Am I doing it wrong or did they send me the wrong rings with the piston ? Ty
Does it mater the piston orientation in the block ? Mine isn’t marked ! Some I’ve done had markings , an arrow or a line or something , this one isn’t . It’s a HSK70 Tecumseh .
+Gslash25 hmm. You can take it to a shop and have them sleeve it, then put in a new piston and rings. Now..... Is it with it? That totally depends on you.
+KartFab ok, might've been worth it if I had left it in more original condition or made power, but I might put it on my great uncles one wheeler peeler kart
oops. I got the piston here. The raptor/5 hp flatheads are the same bore and stroke so standard piston was the one i got. www.out2win.com/catalog/raptorpr.html

Thanks BTW for showing how you do it. It's pretty straight forward and yet I didn't even think of using a tool like that.
Can i plz have a link or size of the ball bearings I need one for higher RPMs😭😭😭
Higher rpm’s ball bearings are the least of your concern.

Cheap ones work
@@MR_IC if its rusted inside, reusing old rings is not a good idea.... just buy new rings, they are cheap
this video helps alot. thanks, keep up the good work
Do the gap ends have to be 120° apart or does it just have to be away from each other?
Do 120 for install, rings end up spinning anyway when running

Blue smoke=oil
How much does it cost to get the pistons rings installed
mine slowly reveals gradual amounts of oil creeping up from the cylinder walls. None of the rings are broken and look fine, the cylinder wall looks perfect, it shows the original machining texture
Check ring end gap. Check to see it rings were installed upside down (esp the second ring)
@@KartFab Ok ty I will do. also maybe they have lost a little bit of strength, I will try and carefully spread them out to make them springy again :)

Does these procedures apply to my coolster 125cc?and what is this size that I can use to adjust my valve?

predator 670 has had some issues past 5500. Good luck as you are in mostly uncharted territory.
Alright thanks, I will need the luck!

If there is a gap between piston and cylinder wall that will cause no compression correct?
Needs gap or it seizes
Can you change mines on my 2003 Mercury Marauder? Please
Does all wrist pin come in same sizes regardless of what motorcycle you have?
Wrist pins come in all different sizes.
The rings that came with the piston (flat top piston ) from go power sports , the waffle one seems to be huge and won’t compress. Am I doing it wrong or did they send me the wrong rings with the piston ? Ty
I dunno
@@KartFab I figured it out . This was a while ago . I was so dumb 4 months ago compared to now lol.
Does it mater the piston orientation in the block ? Mine isn’t marked ! Some I’ve done had markings , an arrow or a line or something , this one isn’t . It’s a HSK70 Tecumseh .
Check the tecumseh factory service manual. Also check underside of piston. Some have no marks and it doesn’t matter which way.
This looks to tough for me hopefully i can find someone to do it
its easy
nice video, what if you put the ring gaps 180 degrees apart?
Beats me. 120 deg is what they all are installed at.
*****
is that what the manufacture specified?
yep. Rings should not be at a 90 degree to the wrist pin, or in the same position to wrist pin.
ok
What type of oil do you use in the piston and rings?
Any oil will do with a mild build. Typically 10w30 for above freezing and 5W30 for freezing temps
Sir model no-d4dh4-2500awm compresor.i want install but both the piston rings same how to install?
Great stuff thanks for the video!

This is dope
Where did you buy the piston and rings? Did I miss a link in the description?

Don't just torque the ring compressor until it squeals. Tap all around it as you tighten. Novices know that.
hello Kart Fab. i got interested with your video. i would like to buy .piston with its rings for scooter VESPA EF2 50CC.

Rod bolts on a arc rod are 270 or 170 inch lbs??

hi old piston rings back in the bore
Wow this is difficult
So what you are saying is I can’t do this shit by hand... fml
you can rent this stuff from autozone for free, you just return it when done for refund. Its part of their "tool rental" stuff.
You did not say a fucking thing how to install rings
