Many tissues contain in tercellular junctions between cells.
    1. Tight junction
    2. Adherens junction
    3. Desmosome
    4. Hemidesrnosome
    5. Gap junction
    1. Tight junction
    • Web-like strips of proteins fuse together adjacent plasma membranes.
    • Tight junctions prevent the transport of the contents of organs such as the intestines, urinary bladder, and stomach into the blood or surrounding tissues.
    2. Adherens junction
    • Anchored to a dense plaque of proteins inside the cell are transmembrane proteins that connect adjacent cells together.
    • Additionally, microfilaments extend from the plaque into the cytosol. • Adhesion belts help resist separation of epithelial tissues.
