I sent an email to Benchmade some 6 months ago, and other than the robotic acknowledgement that they received it, it's been all crickets and several email advertisements every week. Nothing at all from their customer service department
There is no regulations or standard issue when it comes to knives, grunts are even allowed to carry emerson knives and even others of knives too, some carry microtechs. Jack Carr actually recevied a knife after his SEAL training and that was the SOG SEAL pup knife

My dad carried the older aqua lung fixed blade. He was in buds 82 and only in for a few years until later becoming a commercial under water welder for a bit. He kept 3 of those knives and I have one today that he gave me. Cool knife. Extremely sharp and I have no practical use for It besides it’s a cool memento from him.
It's hard for me to see the seals issuing the SRK for underwater applications because it'll rust if you look at it wrong SK5 is tough. Not stainless. But hey I don't know

That’s how a lot of us do it. The stupid over-expensive TQ holders and other gear accessories just are too finicky and we use rubber bands because they’re easier, more reliable to deploy, and easy to find. I’m not SOF but I am a Marine and every single SOF group I’ve trained with uses rubber bands, including our Raiders. Edit: I get cringed out when I see LARPers wearing full kits with the most expensive gear when nobody really does that.
That second knife reminds me of one the old Vets I knew once talked about. Their favourite weapons for black ops was a short length of tube with one end welded shut. Inside that was a heavy duty spring. A very simple catch release on the end so that to load, you slid the blade inside then used a wall to push it in till it caught on the catch and stayed locked inside. It was simple and completely silent. Sneak up behind, point and push the release. Good for single enemy soldiers. But in a group you only got one shot before having to go to the trouble to reload it, but it was one less enemy you had to worry about as you waded into the enemy mob with standed knives and guns.

Also just when its benchmade knife pretty much everyone knows its going to be pricey. I got both knives, and that benchmade adamas is no joke. I used mine to split hardshell blue crabs for redfish bait. I basically used it like an axe. I put that edge through hell. Obviously it’s a bit dull, but if you saw how I was abusing that thing…. Blood, guts, metal truck bed, dropping on rocks… I can confidently say I really use these expensive knives, and benchmade delivers. I’ll probably grab another eventually, but it’s hard to justify because I know this thing won’t quit. Overpriced? Absolutely, but they are DAMN good knives. The SRK is great to, but the adamas is a workhorse beast.
I bought a Cold Steel Tanto for about 45$. As a hunter and a life time steel fabriactor, this is proba ly the BEST knife i have ever owned. One piece high carbon steel and keeps a killer edge for a long time. Cold Steel doesnt get nearly enough credit for their wares.
I got a cold steel Bowie that I've had for about 40 years, holds a grade edge, great knife nowadays it just splits kindling for the wood stove, I've also got a Laredo Bowie what a beautiful Wicked knife that is
Talk about retention... I have the Ka-Bar BK2 and no matter how much use, that thing holds almost to a fault. It takes 2 thumbs on the retention tab pressing with near full force to unsheath it. I keep it far from body parts!!
One big thing about the cold steel knife that’s issued, they rust… they issue you the non stainless version. It’s meant to keep you on your toes, shows attention to detail when there’s no rust on your knife when we have inspections the day after a swim. I swear that knife will rust while you’re taking your fins off lol
Shield plus was a good upgrade from the 1st gen shield. Can use the same holsters and it lets you carry a few extra rounds. Glock is also good. There’s a reason smith and Wesson and Glock are like the top 2 choices can’t go wrong with either!
I’d still want a good capable sturdy knife just incase things go really south. Maybe you survived a boat crash and your weapon went over board and u are the only survivor stranded in enemy territory with just a few tools . That knife attached to u is gonna be real useful. Could use it to make a spear and hunt for food. Could use it on a soldier taking a piss way from his buddies and take his gun and ammo and any other useful items you can find. Yes a rare scenario but possible
Yeah, he was medically retired in 2017 after getting injured in 2014 on his 1st combat tour in Afghanistan, I think it was also due to PTSD but I'm not 100% sure on that.
I have and use only 2 knives and I've used 1 my whole usmc enlistment with 3rd recon and 2nd marsoc/msog raiders. It's the Gerber LMF2 and the one I use on my plate carrier right now is the Gerber prodigy.. it's just a smaller copy of the LMF2 and I've had both for a long time and they never failed me
Cold Steel is legitimately the best knife company going between their quality vs price , paying 100$ for a knife that’s comparable to 500/1000$ knives is just wild. You can punch that knife into armor plate and hang your flak vest on it , try that with a K bar 🤣

My srk from 05 that I got in Iraq is still in great condition and my go to. After cold steel changed hands they haven't been able to nail the heat treat on their sk5 products. Crkt has issues with it too. I love both companies and stand by their older products but sk5 is a trash steel. 2 major companies known for making serious duty knives failed in the same ways. There's a reason you can pick up an sk5 srk for about 40 bucks
The Cold Steel SRK is my EDC knife. Love that knife and i own 2 of them. Its definitely an excellent knife with a tough blade that holds an edge well. Cold Steel makes some great knives
The ones I know all carried Winkler Belt Knives and Winkler Crushers. Couple also had Winkler Combat Axes. The Adamas is a great knife. The SRK is the best. Utility and cost? Can’t be beat. Would I rather have my Gucci Winkler or Spartan Difensa, maybe even my Yarborough (Green Beret) by CRK? Sure. But the SRK is a solid choice for anyone.
I have no idea what the seals do, or even in the navy. But the army doesn't issue knives. Your units supply might get some knives that theyll give out to people but usually not everyone and they were almost always Gerber when I was in. You're also free to carry whatever knife you want to carry. I'm pretty sure in uniform you can carry whatever you want regardless of state law as well. Thats just my .02

That is 100% true. Most of their specialized training comes from the civilian side. As a side note, being in any unit of the military does not make one a knife expert and buying a knife someone carries does not make you part of that unit.

It's coated so it should be mostly protected and any rust on the edge will be removed when it's sharpened.

The SRK is a REALLY bad knife btw. I have it and the blade is already wobbling in the grip after 2-3 uses in the woods.
