The era of dial up internet was better than they are now. Everything is overpriced nowadays, there are hardly any good deals especially when being a frugal shopper. We have the well known technical companies such as amazon, google, apple and microsoft but most of the businesses that are not tech companies closed due to crime and theft. The city are building more houses and apartments when not everyone can afford it unless they make alot of money. I been living in the same city since the 90s and the city has tuned into a shit hole and more people would rather work from home than go to work and have less human interactions with each other. The more the way things become worse, the more cynical that I become. There are no more block buster except 1 location left, hollywood video, radio shacks, frys electronics. I'm located in washington and all we have is best buy and target, not even a micro center. There are hardly any albertsons left since safeway took over albertsons. There are more starbucks than there are albertsons and burger king combined. Last year and this year both have to deal with inflation on prices when buying certain products but they were better deals last year when trying to save as much money as possible when buying the important necessitys especially when taking care of important bills like rent and groceries and maybe some left over money to spend if there is much money left. Instead of work smarter not work harder, how about shop smarter not shop harder. When it comes to working, apply a similar approach to spending money.
The only value FB holds for me is marketplace. Not that it’s formatted properly or anything close to good, but the technologically illiterate can list items (read: motorcycles) with minimal friction. I still don’t “trust” Meta by any means. I scrapped my plans to buy a Quest as soon as oculus was acquired by Facebook.
Not even Marketplace holds any value for me anymore, as I can find most of what I'm looking for on places like eBay, Amazon, Walmart, Aliexpress, Letgo, etc..

I was not willing for some moderator at Fakebook to find a joke offensive and ban me from the site, which in turn bans you from accessing your paid for content on the Oculus Store! If I want to use VR in the future then I will look at Steam but honestly I don't think I will ever look at VR again.
It seems VR as a whole is an expensive gimmick the vast majority can live without no matter how hard it's being pushed, and I think things like Apple AR are going to remain in the same category.

I hate to do this, but they look to be looking the Bose Audio Glasses tech for the side frame, these are also used on the Razor glasses as well. These have a really high failure rate for the tiny wire connecting the speaker through the hinge, and after 4 replacements, and many threads on line wit similar stories, I gave up on them. Sucks because they sounded great.
I've noticed a theme. Any site that tends to lean right has a ridiculous amount of bots and advertisers won't work with them nearly as much. It's almost like right leaning sites fail to have good moderation teams and are often more unwilling to hire staff to actually moderate the site.

The meta glasses are sort of old hardware... North Focals done this in 2019, and they made in house parts for their glasses because they wanted the same form factor as meta glasses have now. A small laser was on one arm, prescription lenses could be added, then they'd just put a photo polymer film on the inside of the lenses so the laser would show an image. No doubt they've probably got better since then... But the design is 5 years old at a minimum. Google bought North after they had a rocky start in 2019. They tried making a project called Project Iris, but earlier this year (2023) they decided to pull the plug on it. Pretty interesting rabbit hole to dig into. :) Oh btw Facebook sucks, lost access to my account and they want me to scan my ID to unlock it. Wonder why I bothered adding security question in the first place now.

I feel like he could've researched and written a short list of reasons why Metas ecosystem is preferable. I've sparingly used Facebook over the past few years and I have found that its hardly a website i find worth using. So many baked in ads, pages ran by bots, and website features suddenly go missing or are menuing hell. A relative of mine couldn't share a marketplace listing in multiple groups under a single button anymore! I think Matt wins this argument because Meta hasn't improved their websites. Their hardware may be cool, but I don't think that's enough for me to say that they've truly made a difference in their platforms. I feel its more to do with Meta trying to stay away from too much drama. Other than Quest (which I am actually starting to believe in), Meta still isn't held in any high regard in most communities and they wont be for the foreseeable future.

Decided to get rid of Facebook. Don’t get me wrong if it’s used right it’s a good tool but I’ve seen more negative than good. I just had enough didn’t bring any sense of value to my life so I just said that’s enough. Miss the days of social media not existing.
