- This is about the discontinued rotomolded Squall. It is the low volume version of the Storm. Its dimensions are 503 cm x 55 cm (16'.6" x 22") and its weight is 27.7kg (61lbs).
I find it very stable whatever the sea conditions and it is fast. A great kayak for cruising but also fun even in small waves.
You're sure getting that rating up! Two more sleeps.
Two more sleeps and you have the V7? 😊
I like the Squall but I wish the cockpit would be slightly longer. I can’t sit in first then bring my legs in. I know people who can do it so it might be my lack of flexibility…
@@kayakintro Yeah, with 5 damaged discs in the lower back for about 45 years I'm way down on flexibility. Maybe Thursday I can drive again, after one month ban, so I can get a yak wet. Getting withdrawal symptoms. 😢
@@gadgetman_nz4092 I have a neck problem which is a problem when I try to sleep… I hope you can paddle soon. It is getting cold here with 5 degrees this morning.
@@kayakintro If I was any other species someone would be on the hook for not having me humanely put down. My head leans to the left. One more sleep. Docs on Thursday to see it I can drive.
@@gadgetman_nz4092 Hopefully you can!
Wow you got some really good speed!
@@Fishaholicboy Thanks! I usually paddle surfskis and I do a good use of the wind paddle!
It seems to be easy to get it up to speed...👍
@@larscrantz You need some power because it is heavy (27.7kg) and I had the trolley inside too (+4.5kg!). It’s more a boat for cruising and keeping a good speed thanks to its weight and inertia 🤣
@@kayakintro You're getting fitter and fitter when paddling such heavy boats...😂
@@larscrantzPaddling a surfski right after it certainly feels very light 😂
At certain point you're pushing against the hull speed with seakayaks and you will never go faster. Although, you don't have to go super fast to have fun and always nice to have a good workout 😊. 13-14 kmh is still impresive though. 💪
@@IamNothing82 You can go a lot faster than the hull speed! It is called planing. I reached 19 km/h on a sit on top that’s only 270 cm long (Viking Kayak Ozzie) on a big sea. There is a guy Surfski Estonia on YT who told me his fastest speed was on a white water kayak at sea and he usually paddles a Carbonology double surfski 😂
@@kayakintro true, but you can't go into planing on muscle power because you have to push the front over the bow wave, same what speedboats do. I've seen a video of someone that out a motor on it, it didn't go faster, but the kayak sinks deeper.
There's a difference in landspeed and the actualy speeds that you move on the water. A white water kayak moves with the river that already had a certain speed
Same with commercial planes can't go through the sound barrier, but when you're on a plane with a tail wind you see that the land speed exceeds the sound barrier.
@@IamNothing82 The hull speed is very theoretical. K1 can reach 18-20km/h when sprinting and they are only 520 cm long. They reach double the hull speed. I can paddle to 16km/h with the V10L on flat and that’s also well above the hull speed of a 615 cm kayak.
When I race I see paddle boarders going as fast as surfskis, and yet they are on 14 ft long sup only. They certainly plane like surfboard.
