I came here in search of a friend who recently retired from the fire department, but sure am glad there’s more than one Dave Thompson! Well worth the watch - nice work, Dave 😊
That was beautiful man. As a father of 2 Neurodiverse sons, I hope the workplace of their future will be a welcome environment for them to be their best and operate at their amazing potential.
I’ve always been embarrassed to admit I have adhd. And I’ve met others who say it is their superpower. Until watching this, I could never understand what they meant by that. I know I’m talented and gifted but I process and create in spurts. If only I could rein that in… but I never could, so have always felt I’ll never be accepted. For example, when I look at a clock and it says 2:00 - And I know have 20 minutes to get ready for something - it LITERALLY stays 2:00 in my mind until I look at the clock again. I would actually think “I’ve still got 20 minutes to get ready” and go off creating or cleaning for 30 more minutes, all the while still thinking I’ve got a whole 20 minutes. If I don’t immediately decide I can only focus on getting ready and checking the clock with alarms, I’m screwed. Being me is very exhausting because despite how incredibly creative I can be in those “20 minutes” it’s not an acceptable or “normal” way to create/work. How do I make this a superpower? Please Help!!
Amazingly done! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 As a dad to a child with ADHD, I worry about what his work life will look like. I'm so glad the narrative is changing, and I hope you keep up the great work. This needs to be seen, and understood, by every CEO, manager, supervisor, employee. The point about accommodations being largely free for employers is also impactful.
I love this fresh thinking. I use this in my training programmes and hope that people take the clear message away, see your differences and make them work for you. Thanks Dave
We ND people have known all along that we do have a place in the world, but for far too many, it will always be the place of "less than" and "other". Your TEDx Talk, Dave, elevates and promotes us. Thank you!
I told administration about my adhd and anxiety, demands became worse and I was told to contact ADA if I needed accommodations. What I need should be considered basic human decency. You said exactly what I mean, but poetically. Normal not formal.
Great stuff but I'm looking forward to the time when none of us has to openly slap a label on ourselves and beg for inclusion, or force a faux sympathy upon us.
An excellent talk - Dave is spot on with his message. He gave a talk at NASA this week folks - NASA!
Easily the fifth time I've watched this, and each time I'm filled with an immeasurable amount of gratitude towards you for doing this.
This is awesome! So informative and motivating to be more inclusive.
I love the strengths perspective instead of deficit
Wow! That was Amazing Dave! I can’t believe you were on Ted Talk! It was a great talk, and I’m proud to know you.
I have watched a lot of videos but none have made me a better person than this one did.

Me too. This Dave seems alright though
Amazing Talk Dave! Super well done and I am sure it inspires more people to think differently about their own brain and that of others! ❤

This is awesome, I added this to the Playlist that I pass onto to friends and clients alike
There's so much *hope* here. I've seen so many friends walk this journey of self-discovery and I hope the workplace can catch up!
Very great talk! The concept of "it's a Feature, not a bug" resonates with me.
Would love for companies to establish a workplace that works for people like us! Great message, great speaker!
Wonderfully put Dave. More people need to embrace individuality and diversity and understand what it can bring to a team. Good on you.

Such a powerful speech. A spotlight on inclusion and empathy.
Having a neurodiverse daughter is often times a struggle. This helped me reframe my point of view on how she thinks and operates. Thanks!
My man!! ❤
