Another nice video Gareth. I have fond memories of Porthcawl and the surrounding area as it brought back fond memories of catching my first Bass way back in 1985. I hope the Small Eyed Rays show up next time you visit that particular beach. Looking forward to your next video. Best wishes Gordon.
Thank you Gordon, appreciated as always. I'm pleased to hear that the video brought back some good memories for you. My Nan used to have a caravan at Trecco Bay and as kids we would spend a week or two down there during the Summer, good times. Yes that would be good, I've had some nice Small Eyed Rays off that beach, think I had one in another video I did down there. Take care 👍👍
Just found your channel and subscribed, thanks for showing me some new marks near where I live. I'll definitely be giving some of these a try, can't believe I haven't tried some of them. You're videos are really good and I'm now on a binge working my way through them. I haven't had a car for 6 months but have one now and you channel has given me back the fishing big so I can't wait to get back out. Great content, hope your channel takes off. All the best!
Thank you mate, much appreciated, I'm pleased to hear that you're enjoying the videos, hopefully plenty more to come soon! Great that you have a car again, you'll be able to get back out there and wet a line again...I'm sure you'll get a few fish! Cheers for watching 👍👍🐟

Im late to the viewing as found this while searching Trecco Bay (we are off there in 2 weeks time for 7 days) However very glad I did, as i am planning to fish while there! Now subscribed and watching the rest. Really good quality videos and fun to watch. Thanks 👍
Thank you Neil, I appreciate it. Hope you have a great time at Trecco Bay and I'm sure you'll get a few fish. I'll hopefully be down there during November, been a while since I fished at Porthcawl. Cheers for watching, take care 👍👍
@@riversidewithme wow, thanks to your vids I fished the beach and pier last week. Not too much happening on the beach but just 4 hours on the pier saw 9 dog, 2 small eyed and 2 congers (all in daylight). One of my best fishing sessions ever and by far the best in Wales! The rods didn't stop 😂 ... Big thanks!!
Thank you Robert, I appreciate it. Yes lovely beach isn't it, I always enjoy being there. I tend to fish it mostly in Autumn and Winter but fancied having an early spring session there. Well I filmed this last Monday and for the first few hours, I pretty much had it to myself but then it got a little busy from about 10am, few swimmers etc. Cheers for watching 👍👍
Thanks Paul, I appreciate it. It was a nice little session in fairness, nice bit of weather and the Dogfish kept the rods busy. Good luck on Sunday, hope you catch a few! Cheers 👍👍
Spot on Ian. These days for me, it's more about getting out and being next to the water. If I catch, well that's a bonus as you say. Hope you've been managing to get a few sessions in! Cheers as always 👍👍🐟
Hi Gareth another fabulous video and on my doorstep newton beach love it down there had some good fish off that beach keep them coming see you on the next one
Thank you David, glad you enjoyed it. Yes me too, I love this beach and like yourself, I've had some cracking fish over the years, never know what could turn up. Hope you're well, cheers for watching 👍👍
I like to fish here too with the kids but by the time the tide comes in there are always a bunch of old lady’s dancing and splashing about. I can hear them singing toward the end haha. Keep the vids coming
Hi Nath, yes they turned up during this session but thankfully they kept their distance ha! I sometimes walk further up towards Merthyr Mawr and I find it's much quieter up there. Cheers, more videos to come soon 👍👍
Love the video as always Gareth, I'm quite a novice but love the feeling of fishing. I tend to go down st brides, around outfall lane and towards peterstone . My dad and I went down Newton last week. Fished incoming, high and outgoing. Not even a murmur. Keep up the good work!!
Thanks mate, much appreciated. Good luck with your fishing adventure, I'm sure you'll get some good fish. Yeah nice area down by Outfall Lane and Peterstone, I love fishing down there, one of my favourite areas. Unlucky on the Newton blank, it can be like that and the next day it's on fire, strange really. Cheers for watching, hopefully more to come soon 👍🎣👍
Thanks Matt. Only a couple of Doggies but they kept the rod tips busy ha! I have caught good fish off there in the past but it's just nice being out. Another awesome video mate 👍 congers are out down st brides me and my boy had 6 first one was second cast after that the bites didn’t stop. Looking to go on the sand down there tomorrow where you fished on one of your videos but don’t know where to park shall I park by the west usk lighthouse thanks
Thanks Kyle, much appreciated. Great that the Congers are showing down St Brides, I love fishing for them! Well technically speaking, the lane that leads to the west usk lighthouse is private and you're not meant to drive up there, although providing you don't block any of the gates that the farmer uses, it should be ok. I tend to park by the lighthouse pub and walk up, takes 15 to 20 mins to walk up there. Hope you manage to catch a few! Cheers 👍👍
Cheers Scott, appreciated as always. Only a couple of Dogfish but it was still nice to be out, nice little session. Have a good bank holiday weekend 👍👍
Just catching up with the vid Gareth, good effort put in. I just fished 2 marks at the Gower over the weekend and like you had lots of dogfish not committing to the bait. Managed a Huss and a small codling but being by the water and re-set the mind as you say is what it’s all about.. well done mate, look forward to the next one! 👌🎣👍
Hi Matt, good that you got out over the weekend, nice one. Yes those Dogfish do seem to be having some fun with the baits at the moment, must be laughing at us ha! I also fished the Gower a couple of days ago and managed a few fish, nothing huge but good fun all the same. So much potential down there and just a nice place to be. Yeah definitely, the days of me chasing fish have long gone, nowadays I just go fishing. Cheers mate, appreciated as always. Tight lines 👍👍🐟

Beat the blank AND the crowds there Gareth. Bet it was packed down there today. I tried Fontygary today and failed to catch anything except a bit of sun. Nice day to be out though. Loved watching the video and well done on your session
Hiya Wayne, unlucky on the Fontygary blank but I guess that's how it goes, at least you got a nice bit of sun. Yeah I like Newton Beach but it can get busy, especially during holiday season. When I fish it in late Autumn/Winter, it's nice and quiet. I filmed this last Monday and I had the whole place to myself for the first few hours but then a few swimmers turned up and it got busier but yeah, I bet it was packed there yesterday! Glad you enjoyed the video, thanks for watching 👍👍
Lovely looking clean bottom spot. I did my first kayak trip off sully yesterday and my first cast was my first ever ray, 10lb blonde fought for 20 mins on a spinning rod. From then on it was purely dogfish but cant complain, spent most of the winter blanking! :)
Well done on the 10lb blonde ray Donny, that's a cracking fish in fairness!! Hopefully you'll get a few more now as the weeks progress. Yes there does seem to be a lot of Dogfish around at the moment, although they have been helping me to beat the blank on a few occasions ha! I've not caught anything decent in a while and so hopefully my luck will change soon. Cheers for watching, appreciated 👍👍
Nice job buddy. I think 2 dogfish in the daytime is pretty good going to be honest, but then what do I know😂😂, looks like a really nice place to fish, bet it can get busy in the summer. Apparently a few early bream showing down here, can't wait for that. I really enjoy fishing in the day, but unless the bream or wrasse are about, I don't seem to catch. Anyway take care buddy 👍🙏
Thanks Dylan. Haha yes, you can always rely on the Dogfish to beat the blank, loads around here at the moment. Many people hate them but I don't mind catching them and it's good to see the rod tips bouncing . I would agree that night fishing everywhere is better, same up this way, although because the water here is more murky than the Isle of Wight, we can get fish in the day too. Good news on the Bream front, you had some nice ones last year and I'm sure you'll get a few during the next few weeks!! Cheers bud, have a good weekend 👍👍🙏
Yes very true Stu! I don't mind catching them to be honest, they keep the rod tips busy and as you say, it's just nice being, what it's all about! Have a good weekend, cheers for watching 👍👍
Have a van in Trecco, have done for the last two years, yet to fish ther tho. im aware of the Smoothy run there but is the beach any good for whiting in the wintr?, bass on the rough ground im guessing.
Thanks for subscribing David. I did a video on Merthyr Mawr beach last winter and had over 30 Whiting that night. It's pretty much next to Newton beach. So I park at Newton carpark and walk up, takes around 20 mins or so. I've had some good fish off Newton beach too although this time of year when lots of people are about, early mornings or evenings are best. My first Newton beach video is better than the latest one. Over the years I've had good bass off both Newton beach, Merthyr Mawr and Trecco Bay. If I remember rightly, I had a jumbo whiting in my Trecco Bay video, again that was last winter. I prefer Porthcawl at night but have caught during the day. Cheers 👍👍
Could you please let me know the post code ov newton point carpark so i can put it in my sat nav thank you very much appreciated respect from south wales loves every vid u make.
Thanks mate, I appreciate it! Try postcode CF36 5NH, that should take you straight there. Nice beach and can throw up a few nice surprises. This time of year it can get busy as it's tourist season and so try and stick to early mornings or late evenings. Cheers for watching 👍👍
Thanks Stuart, glad you're enjoying the videos. That reel was given to me by a friend of mine who works in the fishing tackle industry, they are not sold over here. To be honest, it's a nice reel but nothing special and there's better ones out there. It does the job for me though. Cheers for watching 👍👍
The Dogfish seemed to have thinned out lately, whereas a couple of months ago there were thousands about. I tend to find that Mackerel is the best Dogfish bait and if they are about, they will take it. Cheers 👍👍
Thanks for the reply. I got some black worm and mackerel for this evenings tide, fingers crossed, some of the locals seem to think that rays are in abundance at the moment
Was a good tide last night, was down there till nearly 11, a couple shy bites and a couple dogfish trying to beach themselves but nothing on the hook! Glad I took a couple beers 🍻
Just booked a hotel down Brixham for a few days at the end of the month after watching your brixham breakwater video . Hopefully the fishing will be as good as when you were there 🤞
Nice one Mathew, I'm sure you'll have some good fishing! I love Brixham, tend to go there for our holidays a few times a year. I would be interested to know how you get on. Tight lines 👍👍🐟
@@riversidewithme thanks mate , I'll let you know how i get on . Will just be nice to catch multiple fish for a change , seems the Bristol channel these days is a shadow of its former self . Even 5-6 years ago I used to have some great fish off porthcawl breakwater but they seem to be very few and far between now . Anyhow I'm looking forward to your future videos , keep up the good work 💪
@@riversidewithme i prefers a bit of rock salmon to cod to be honest with you but always just take what you need and leave the rest go on their way i notice you always take your time to return your catches to freedom if its at all possible your a good man fair play to you
@@richardparkhouse9571 Yes I think Cod is a little overrated. I quite like beer battered Whiting, although these are now also being taken in huge numbers by the commercials, sad. I rarely keep fish these days, if one is struggling to go back then I'll dispatch it humanely and eat it.
Hi Gareth, Looked like a nice day you had there. Whenever I go there it’s covered in dogs and their walkers and kids of course. The Gemini T-bar disgorged works a treat doesn’t it. Shame the car park there is costly. Did I see stone or lug worm casts early on in the video? Another cracking video though mate. Thanks for the entertainment 👍🎣
Hi Clive, thanks as always, glad you enjoyed. Yeah I love Newton beach but as you say, it can get busy, especially this time of the year during the tourist season. Early mornings and late evenings are fine and during winter it's nice and quiet. I couldn't be without one of those Gemini disgorgers now, a simple but amazing little tool. I hate leaving hooks in fish and these things often do the job. Yes you did, full of lugworm casts there, although they seem to be quite deep down. Years ago Dad and I used to dig for them there but we never got many. St Brides at Newport was a great place to dig for them but less common now. Cheers for watching and have a good weekend 👍👍🐟
another cracking video gareth im actually going to try that spot very soon , as your quite close to the point is it still sand or there some rocks out therer?
Thanks Robert, much appreciated! Where I was, it's clean sand with no snags, fish upto and over high water. To the right is Newton point which is a low water mark, rough ground with snags. I prefer the beach, fish early morning or late evening as the beach is quieter. Hope you catch a few. Cheers 👍👍🐟
Went down to Newton Point today at low water . Didn't catch anything but found 2 dead dogfish still attached to snagged up rigs that someone had lost . A trip down there never fails when I'm running low on leads 😅
Unlucky on the blank Mathew but I guess that's how it goes. Shame about the dead Dogfish attached to the rigs but yeah, the point is the place to go when the leads need topping up ha! I was speaking to a guy down there last Monday when I filmed this and he was saying that he lost 12 leads the day before on the point! Cheers for watching 👍👍

Doggies better than a blank there’s always next time just nice to be out 👍
Yes very true Stu! I don't mind catching them to be honest, they keep the rod tips busy and as you say, it's just nice being, what it's all about! Have a good weekend, cheers for watching 👍👍
Have a van in Trecco, have done for the last two years, yet to fish ther tho.
im aware of the Smoothy run there but is the beach any good for whiting in the wintr?, bass on the rough ground im guessing.
ps, new subscriber,great vids.
Hi m8 injoing videos what fixed spool reel is that your using thanks
Thanks Stuart, glad you're enjoying the videos. That reel was given to me by a friend of mine who works in the fishing tackle industry, they are not sold over here. To be honest, it's a nice reel but nothing special and there's better ones out there. It does the job for me though. Cheers for watching 👍👍
Been fishing this exact spot for 3 days, all I've had is 2 congers. Any tips for this spot ? The boy would love to get a doggy
@@wilyum92 Hopefully there will be a few fish about this evening, nice tide for it.
Anyhow I'm looking forward to your future videos , keep up the good work 💪
Should read just found your channel.....that's better lol
there he is the lesser spotted taff water spaniel 😀
Yes, that's it! The good old blank saver ha! No doubt they'll be back in a couple of weeks! 👍👍
Fishing saves the soul or soles
It certainly does! Hopefully lots more soul-saving to come! Cheers 👍👍
She read just found
Hi Gareth, Looked like a nice day you had there.
Cheers 👍👍🐟
Nod, nod Swansea cod
Indeed... certainly a few out there at the moment!
Predictive text nightmare lol
if you think its bad there you want to call over to swansea bay, you'll have a doggy on every hook every cast
Ah yes, the infamous Swansea Dogfish ha! They usually save the blank for me when fishing down that way.
