This is one of the more interesting and compelling takes I've seen on Killer Moth - I've always thought that the poor guy could and should be more than just a joke villain, and I can see some version of this origin being a good starting point for the character if they were to ever use him in a movie. He fears and hates the Batman because he sees himself as his natural prey, and he fears and hates the dark, so he fashions himself after a creature who seeks out the light - really, it's so simple, you'd think someone else would have used it by now. Good job.
Honestly, I can see this guy being in the new “The Batman” movies. His aesthetic and just his characters idea would be a great villain for this Batman.
I like the idea that while this Killer Moth may not be too much of a threat to Batman on a physical or intellectual level, he still manages to throw the detective off his game by taking away his closest friend, the shadows, making him a deadly element when in combination with a villain who packs a bit more muscle in their armory
I personally love idea of The Misfits, as gang of Joke Villains squatting in some abadoned house and hanging out, kinda like Harley Quinn show did. Catman, Calculator, Calendarman, Magpie and Firefly (the second one), maybe Ratcatcher and Eraser as cameos
I know how late I am but I have to point out that the artist also made concept art for all the villains they are planning on appearing before they made any of the animatics, and in Killer Moths he wields a shotgun wich is honestly incredibly menacing because of the combination with his removal of Batman’s shadows. Imagine trying to sneak up on a shotgun wielding insane person in a large room when there’s not a shadow in sight…
I didn’t get at first who this was about, then the name “Drury Walker” appeared, and it instantly clicked. Honestly, I like Killer Moth as a Batman Villain, I get he’s mainly a joke villain but I feel if DC tried, they could very well give him a very sympathetic backstory to make him more than just a joke. I especially love the connection with Moths, like them, he sticks with light because he’s afraid of what lurks in the Dark, in his eyes, he’s the prey, and Batman is the Predator, and I love that. I also love the little bits he gathers in his mind, pretty much him trying to regain the memories he once lost, the family he once had, the life he once lived. You did such a great job here, and I honestly want to see stuff like this for more Batman Villains.
I have absolutely zero context on this so I don't know if this is intentional but I think the name Drury is a reference to Dru Drury. He was an entomologist who discovered several moth species.
I always liked the "wannabe supervillain" plot for Killer Moth-- it gives an interesting perspective into supervillain culture. But this is an intriguing concept for a remake. Strange used a partial leucotomy to erase the memories and trauma which drove a man mad-- without ANY attempt to treat the damage they did. He tried to treat the symptoms rather than the disease in order to cook the books. And, as Hugo Strange has since made a career for himself doing, he made a monster... I would LOVE to see you try your hand with the rest of the rouge's gallery in Gotham!
I wonder if for his mask, Daeej might have equipped his lenses with those special anti-glare filters that are used for those night-time driving glasses?
I like how through is attempt to stay away from the dark so he doesnt go crazy again he becomes addicted to the light as Batman doesnt come out at the day so he doesnt have to worry about being Killer Moth during the light. But in his attempt he ends up becoming adicted to the ligbt and becomes Killer Moth once again
This animatic really gives us an insight of what goes on within Moth’s mind, which is excellently portrayed! But I can’t imagine this poor dude’s electricity bill.
When did I become afraid of the dark? Are my eyeballs just yet to adjust to seeing the light? The room I'm in is still the same, the shadows have not rearranged it No, the only thing that's changed is how I see at night I fumble for the switch and strap on infrareds And wish for sunshine when the morning's somewhere else But I can't change what time it is or dilate my irises Only what I look at, and I'm looking at myself I am not the sunshine, I am not the moon at night Well, who else could I be when I can't hardly see? I am not the sunshine, I am not the moon at night I'm no one if I'm nowhere in between When did I become afraid of the dark? Was it when I left the cave and swore I'd never go back? If we can't see each other, then there's no more use for hiding I've decided I'll abide it, why deny the color black? I'm not a flower, not a solar-powered calculator Damn my eyes for seeing what's not there I'll trade in vision for a practiced intuition Till my fears come to fruition I'm not scared I am not the sunshine, I am not the moon at night Well, who else could I be when I can't hardly see? I am not the sunshine, I am not the moon at night I'm no one if I'm nowhere in between The future must know where you've been The past predicts the state you're in The present did and will not last Is, isn't, was, have, hasn't, has All that I ask is keep those empty frames If nobody's in them, then no one is to blame For your self-portraits, sign another name Well, who should I be then, if I'll never be the same? I will be my sunshine, I will be my moon at night Who else could I be when I can't fucking see? I will be my sunshine, I will be my moon at night I'm nowhere now, here's no one now to be And if dreams can come true, what does that say about nightmares? I'll stay awake tonight
See, give this to the people making live action Batman lately, or DCEU movies in general. The hallucination imagery is surreal and frightening (on that note, i'd love to see what you would do with jonathan crane 🤔), Moth is super emotive, and the whole thing really makes you feel for this poor goof. THIS is how you make characters and settings dark and tragic without making it so gratuitously edgy and ""rEaLiStIc"" that it hardly seems like Batman and it's no fun anymore. Major props, dude 👍
I would bet my lungs that the reason the dude's lights are faulty is entirely by the machinations of Strange. I guarantee there is a camera in every room and a switch on his desk that controls the breaker.
I love how, at the end, he sincerely just feels like a person in a costume, whereas, when thinking of villains like the Riddler of Scarecrow, you think of the persona, not the one behind the mask
I'm looking forward to the day you release a Kite-Man animatic, he's such an underated and tragic character. Kite-man is the DC equivalent of Sandman. He's not a murderer or a psychopath, he's just a Thief trying to make enough money so he could quit and live comfortably for the rest of his life, while also having a sick child that needs alot of medicine. He really shined in the JokerVsRiddler Storyline. Kite Man, Hell Yeah.
Do I need to get into DC now??? I guess so. No other choice. Gotta get to know Mr. Trauma Moth. Ahhhh such a neat concept executed impeccably. Lovely use of light and dark to convey the story. 10/10 would watch again.
I dont... want to set your expectations too high. This is basicly OC based on the original Killer Moth. Only truely good story with this guy I can recomend, is Batgirl Year One, where he is someone completely else (even if "Miserable Moth" still applies). I have a deep passion for revamping underused characters, thats all.
Okay just found this after your riddler one and I love it this is so good! Edit: Okay I've just had this on repeat for like a day, gotta say this Killer Moth is now my favourite rogue, throw Hugo Strange at anyone and the results ain't gonna be good.
Think strange got especially pissed that he was dressed as batman specifically. Probably messed up his creepy research into Batman’s identity for a bit pfft!
Yeah, the general concept of this AU is basically "hey bats? You might wanna reconsider how you operate some, starting with vetting your criminal rehabilitation locations" isn't it
Holy crap, I love this Batman universe you’re creating, and I LOVE your interpretation of Killer Moth! My favorite detail is how his beard has grown so much that it looks like part of the moth fluff on his costume!
Indeed, I always wanted villains like Moth man to have a better backstory. A genuine effort from someone , not a half ass job. We need more ideas like this for this universe, this AU and so far he’s doing exactly that in a beautiful way
This is amazing, I don't know much of Killer Moth. Honestly, I thought the name was Mothman, like from old folk lore, until I read the description and had a "Oh, yeah" moment. Either way, from the whole rogue gallery, Killer Moth is top 3 three for me (because of old folk lore and the fact that he's just a crazy dude with gadgets). This animatic is really cool and shows that a combination of trauma caused by the bat, and Strange's (most likely unethical) surgeries cause his mind to break and to become a moth. Awesome work!
Holy, I love this take on the Killer Moth character! I always saw him as an extremely versatile character due to how little he was used beyond being a joke. Seeing this design and story for him really blew my hopes for the character through the roof. I want Killer Moth to be in a movie as something more than a side character, he could be a really good antagonist and this shows it. He contrasts Batman so well especially with the Light vs Dark, Moth vs Bat parallel. Also the reference to The Calculator was very nice. The spiral into mad(bat)ness was super cool as I could see it happening with a character like this.
I know im a year late but this is exactly what im talking about . Every character can be taken seriously if they have a good writer and be given enough time to at least learn about the character , just look at what they did with kite man in the comic called war of jokes and riddles .
No going to lie, my first time watching this, i skipped the diolog and missed ALL of the moth references. I spent the 3.5 minutes thinking it was a man-bat animatic, but now I can't help love the idea of man-bat turning back human then turning into killermoth after being scared straight.
With this version of Killer Moth, I can’t help but imagine Batman showing up, expecting a fight or something nefarious, only to stop short at this clearly terrified man hunched over on the roof, in a very homemade moth costume and just.. untenses slightly?? And thinking "Oh. This is a Baby Doll situation, not a Joker situation."

I'm gonna say it... this is best take on Killer Moth I've seen so far. I love how you managed to turn him into this interesting, sympathetic villain that retains all the themes of the OG Killer Moth. It's all fantastic, and I'd kill to see more of this guy and all the other rogues from this world in action in a comic or something like that.
You know, this remind me of Mr Freeze's treatment in BTAS, before that he was mainly a joke, but the show made him the complex and tragic character that we know him as now. This is pretty much the same.
From literally ANY other fan animation i've EVER seen, this is the best one. Not only it tells an actual story instead of just being an edgy fanmade, it makes a way to connect the song's lyrics with the character itself. Good job, bro.
As a person who personally loves Killer Moth and the concept of him being a alternative version of Batman. I love how you give him a tragic life and reason for why he’s become a villain. Instead of just being it to make money or whatever. He’s a man broken by his past like Batman. But his mental issues have become so severe that now the idea of the Batman have become infused with his fears of the awful thing that can hide in the dark. But he’s not a complete sob story we still get to see that fun side that many love the character for. He can still be funny but the extra layer of misery makes him three dimensional.
I can also imagine his obsession with lights may be used for his villainous action, like Bringing the Bat into the light, in a fight he surrounds himself with light so that Batman will have nowhere to hide
I stumbled upon this just now, and though I've always been interested in Killer Moth, this has to be my favorite interpretation of him that I could not find in any adaptation! Absolutely incredible, this is such an amazing interpretation of my favorite Will Wood song that you've used so well to interpret and portray Killer Moth!!!
Don't know if it was intended, since the most obvious parallels to the song are his fear of the dark, and tendency to stay in the light, but the song has themes of questioning one's identity, and Drury fighting between his past trauma and his supposed new life as Mr. Walker is really good. While rewatching, I picked up on how his vision of batman in the mirror is actually himself in the costume, which I just thought was an amazing little touch.
This entire animation is fantastic. I think my only gripe about it (which is a minor thing mind you) is Drury's nose. I can't stop staring at it. Why is it so big?!
It’s shaped like moth’s proboscis. That straw thing on their face? His ears are wings, those 2 strands of hair are antennas, and his beard is moth fluff

I think there was a fanfic about that
I know how late I am but I have to point out that the artist also made concept art for all the villains they are planning on appearing before they made any of the animatics, and in Killer Moths he wields a shotgun wich is honestly incredibly menacing because of the combination with his removal of Batman’s shadows. Imagine trying to sneak up on a shotgun wielding insane person in a large room when there’s not a shadow in sight…
@@woodsylightningwhere can i find the concept art?
@@woodsylightningso if it was a Arkham game he would shine a spot light on you and just shoot you
I didn’t get at first who this was about, then the name “Drury Walker” appeared, and it instantly clicked.
Well you can check out rest of my channel!
I have absolutely zero context on this so I don't know if this is intentional but I think the name Drury is a reference to Dru Drury. He was an entomologist who discovered several moth species.
Oh I didnt knew that! Its so cool?
Makes sense that killer moth’s name is in reference to a guy who discovered a bunch of moth species
I mean, it fits…
I always liked the "wannabe supervillain" plot for Killer Moth-- it gives an interesting perspective into supervillain culture.
But this is an intriguing concept for a remake.
Strange used a partial leucotomy to erase the memories and trauma which drove a man mad-- without ANY attempt to treat the damage they did. He tried to treat the symptoms rather than the disease in order to cook the books.
And, as Hugo Strange has since made a career for himself doing, he made a monster...
I would LOVE to see you try your hand with the rest of the rouge's gallery in Gotham!
I don't know if this is intentional or not but I love how the two hairs on Walker look like moth antennas.
And ears are wings >:)
Wow I'm just realizing that now, thats crazy the detail you put into it.
This is BEAUTIFUL. I love how you turned Killer Moth (who is my favorite DC villain) into something more than just a joke. Well done :D 👏🏻
When did I become afraid of the dark?
Are my eyeballs just yet to adjust to seeing the light?
The room I'm in is still the same, the shadows have not rearranged it
No, the only thing that's changed is how I see at night
I fumble for the switch and strap on infrareds
And wish for sunshine when the morning's somewhere else
But I can't change what time it is or dilate my irises
Only what I look at, and I'm looking at myself
I am not the sunshine, I am not the moon at night
Well, who else could I be when I can't hardly see?
I am not the sunshine, I am not the moon at night
I'm no one if I'm nowhere in between
When did I become afraid of the dark?
Was it when I left the cave and swore I'd never go back?
If we can't see each other, then there's no more use for hiding
I've decided I'll abide it, why deny the color black?
I'm not a flower, not a solar-powered calculator
Damn my eyes for seeing what's not there
I'll trade in vision for a practiced intuition
Till my fears come to fruition I'm not scared
I am not the sunshine, I am not the moon at night
Well, who else could I be when I can't hardly see?
I am not the sunshine, I am not the moon at night
I'm no one if I'm nowhere in between
The future must know where you've been
The past predicts the state you're in
The present did and will not last
Is, isn't, was, have, hasn't, has
All that I ask is keep those empty frames
If nobody's in them, then no one is to blame
For your self-portraits, sign another name
Well, who should I be then, if I'll never be the same?
I will be my sunshine, I will be my moon at night
Who else could I be when I can't fucking see?
I will be my sunshine, I will be my moon at night
I'm nowhere now, here's no one now to be
And if dreams can come true, what does that say about nightmares?
I'll stay awake tonight
See, give this to the people making live action Batman lately, or DCEU movies in general.
The hallucination imagery is surreal and frightening (on that note, i'd love to see what you would do with jonathan crane 🤔), Moth is super emotive, and the whole thing really makes you feel for this poor goof.
THIS is how you make characters and settings dark and tragic without making it so gratuitously edgy and ""rEaLiStIc"" that it hardly seems like Batman and it's no fun anymore.
Major props, dude 👍
I did!
ruclips.net/video/ajZKBrUvpfc/видео.html
A very probable origin story for Killer Moth, DC should employ you
So he had trauma, but that was compressed into a fear of the dark which drove him insane AGAIN. Real good job Gotham! 👏👏👏👏👏
@@adamf.charles5857 that makes it even cooler! You're breathing new life into a buggy little fellow with lots of potential!
@@adamf.charles5857 Welp. I'm subbing. I LOVE of the revamping the underused or "joke" characters.
Try seeing Teen Titans (NOT THE GO! VERSION!!). There he has a sympathetic arc with his daughter.
@@alondraperez-ramirez8363 good job on the clerification
I absolutely love this interpretation of Killer Moth. Makes me wish this were the cannon Killer Moth
You give him a better backstory in my opinion
Indeed, I always wanted villains like Moth man to have a better backstory.
A genuine effort from someone , not a half ass job.
We need more ideas like this for this universe, this AU and so far he’s doing exactly that in a beautiful way
this has got to be my favorite depiction of killer moth ive ever seen
oh yeah and the costume is fire
guy who did the surgery: he's sane don't worry guys
Drury: * laughs eerily in the background *
This is amazing, I don't know much of Killer Moth. Honestly, I thought the name was Mothman, like from old folk lore, until I read the description and had a "Oh, yeah" moment. Either way, from the whole rogue gallery, Killer Moth is top 3 three for me (because of old folk lore and the fact that he's just a crazy dude with gadgets). This animatic is really cool and shows that a combination of trauma caused by the bat, and Strange's (most likely unethical) surgeries cause his mind to break and to become a moth. Awesome work!
Is mothman old he was first reported in 1966
Holy, I love this take on the Killer Moth character!
You've done the impossible. Make me care about a throwaway villain.
Absolutely OBSESSED with this take on Moth!!!! I LOVE THE WORK YOU DO IN YOUR VERSION OF GOTHAM
@@someonesomewhere1363 At the same time Killer Moth is quite good in hand-to-hand combat, not as good as Deathrstroke or Lady Shiva level, but still - so its more like "This guy can also break my bones in fight-or-flight responce"
This is honestly amazing. I thought your other videos were well made, but this one takes it to a whole nother level. The lighting, the linework, the character desings, the expressions! All of its a delight to watch.
I think the best part of the video though is your interpretation of this character. I'll be honest, I never really saw much potential in Killer Moth, but you've really changed my mind. The light dark and predator prey symbolism has so much potential, and you explored that really well here. Seriously dude, if you ever made a comic or something I could see it being something really special. These videos already are some of the best Batman fancontent I've seen. Really, whatever you do, I'm here for it. Keep it up dude :)
Too bad I am not that great of a writer. I have plenty comic ideas (this animation is actually resolution of one of the plotlines, as I explained in the intro), but for each I need a well-put-together script xd
Thank you nontheless!
@@adamf.charles5857 I'm in the same boat. Tons of comic ideas, but putting them all into a greater script is some stressful crap. Well, these animatics and such have all been lovely, so I ain't complaining in the slightest. There even inspiring me to possibly make an animatic of my own lol

The ending is where this became a masterpiece, the lightbulb in the bat swarm was where it became stunning.
This is truly a tremendous gem, it is spectacular. To say that I loved it is not enough, really what a good job
I love killer moth and this was not only a very enjoyable experience but it also inspired me for a little thing that I am doing, really, beautiful work.
I love this
I'm gonna say it... this is best take on Killer Moth I've seen so far.
I love how you managed to turn him into this interesting, sympathetic villain that retains all the themes of the OG Killer Moth. The themes of light, the fantastic visual story telling with the light and the batman, all wrapped together by a song from one of my favorite indie pop/rock artists of all time...
It's all fantastic, and I'd kill to see more of this guy and all the other rogues from this world in action in a comic or something like that.
The way he moves after putting on the mask 3:45 has to be my favorite part of this animatic
I want to see more of this Killer Moth, he’s really cool and very sympathetic compared to his usual depictions.
You know, this remind me of Mr Freeze's treatment in BTAS, before that he was mainly a joke, but the show made him the complex and tragic character that we know him as now. This is pretty much the same.
That’s what Happens when you're Chewed up and Spat Out by a Medical System that doesn't give a Hoot about Consequences, only wanting the Results.
I love this take on Killer Moth. Holy hell.
His electric bill must be through the roof, what with a the light bulb he’s using.
It's such a unique take of him being a former victim of Batman, and you managed to portray his emotions so well! Really amazing!
I'm used to finding bops from animatics, but never before have I found a whole album of bangers from one
And the animatic fits the music so well that if I didn't know any better I'd think it was the other way around
I love coming back every once and a while to watch these animatics. Genuinely a huge fan of your work!
word cant express how much i love this, plus as a will wood fan this makes me happy.
Clicked on this bc Will Wood and now I’m just impressed by the art
This Video is so well drawn and animated omg. Even the nose flinging Back at 4:28 is better Made than my life lol
Dude this version of killer Moth is canonical in my head, it's so good! A fear of darkness and obsession with light because of it is so genius that I am shaken over it not being from any actual comics (to my knowledge). Tremendous work!!!
Also the shot of him vibing with the lights while his meds sit in the foreground captures such a specific energy that really resonated with me, spectacular!
Now that I actually know who this guy is I can appreciate how great this interpretation is. Love the guys whole new vibe you give him
I always forget killer moth exists so it’s very nice to see this extremely unique take on his character.
WHAT THE FUCK THIS IS SO OBSCURE AND TWO OF MY FAVORITE THINGS WILL WOOD AND OBSCURE BATMAN ROGUES???? I'm sorry but holy shit how did the two things go together so well 😭
Poor bastard. That mindwalk and assembling the costume is incredible.
I like the o---o face he pulls when he is suddenly suprised by his own fear
this song applied to someone suffering from amnesia fits so well
This is absolutely incredible! Not only is your art amazing and expressive, but the revamped story makes a joke character actually badass! I also have a weakness to unused/overlooked batman villains so this is a dream XD
id love to see someone a comic with a killer moth with this style and outfit, its so good and cool

You should be aloud by DC to make your own batman story
This unique take on killer moth and your amazing riddler anamiac were stellar

A friend linked this on my server (Hiiii Zander) and I am very impressed~
I like that Killer Moth’s theme is a will wood song considering how kinda arabesque his music is which fits with the fact that he is Arab-American in this version
This is incredible! I did not see that twist coming. Fantastic work!
Dude this is amazing!! There arent nearly enough animatics of batman villains in youtube and I didnt knew this guy but the way you changed his backstory is amazing! Everything about this was great! The facial expresions, the whole theme with light and dark, the nightmare part!! I loved it

For a serie
I love the detail of Drury’s ears looking like moth wings
this made me cry. i know this is a batman animatic but this just speaks to me. i have an obsessive phobia and the way you captured killer moth being afraid of the dark reminds me so deeply of my own phobias that it just... i am almost in tears. you are absolutely amazingly talented. i love your art, it feels silly to say, but it speaks to me,
I feel honored, I think this is the reason to do art - to move someone like you :)
@@adamf.charles5857 that's the reason I write, personally. I write so I can give somebody who's struggling something to distract them, or make them feel just a bit better.

The animation, the lighting, the shot composition! It was all masterful! I can’t image how many hours of work went into this masterpiece!

I love how his nose is too big for the mask so it flings out when he takes it off
Love coming back to rewatch this. Seriously more people need to see your stuff. You have such unique recreations of all these characters. And I love your art style!
Absolutely incredible, this is such an amazing interpretation of my favorite Will Wood song that you've used so well to interpret and portray Killer Moth!!!
Wow, I loved the story you gave him! The art near the end is beautiful. This makes me want to look into Killer Moth myself!
The story on this is something straight out of life in the world to come
This entire animation is fantastic.
I think my only gripe about it (which is a minor thing mind you) is Drury's nose.
I can't stop staring at it. Why is it so big?!
To make him more goofy to give the impression that he isn't to be taken seriously
It’s shaped like moth’s proboscis. That straw thing on their face? His ears are wings, those 2 strands of hair are antennas, and his beard is moth fluff
This version of killer moth reminds me a lot of the monarch from venture bros but more tragic.
I want to hand Killer Moth a light bulb in the shape of a heart so badly and just give him a hug oh my goshss
I’m going bananas I just found ur channel and I was like wow these animatics are INSANE holy shit and then I noticed u did one for dr sunshine and I fucking SHRIEKED YES I LOVE WILLWOOD THIS IS SO GOOD AHHHHHH

Still an incredible animation, nothing else has ever sold me more on this character before.
Such an amazing animatic, everything from the character design, the staging, the story, all phenomenal!
Will say this shows how batman even though he may be doing a good thing can probably also make the psyche of a deranged person worse
I can just imagine how a video of man bat could be
