The Complete History of LEGO: Killer Moth

- LEGO: Batman has had a lot of interesting characters, and as time went on, it came at the expense of the OGs, especially, my favorite character, Killer Moth. Mocked, erased, and changed for the worse, killer moth hasn't had it easy, so along with @dcauwatchtower , we're goin recount his history and hopefully give him a fighting chance in the rumored LEGO: Batman 4

Big thanks to James from Watchtower Database for coming on... also... #SAVELEGOKILLERMOTH !!!!
You should do main character less so if its Indy no Indy or any main character also any%
Hey i think lego dc super villians is canon and lego batman 4 will prove it because the next antagonist was revealed at the end credits
I have an important piece of information. Have you ever heard the theory that links the Arkham games to the lego batman universe? I've seen your video of the chronological order of the lego batman universe long ago, but now I've found this: ruclips.net/user/shortsN2zCfbVbEbU?si=iTqlHTD7TRYueUoe
This could be an explanation of why he isn't on DC supervillains
#SAVELEGOKILLERMOTH
In Lego Batman 3 suicide squad dlc, the suicide squad "kill" him at the end
The thing I like about the character is he's an Anti-Batman character that no one takes seriously unlike Bane, Hush or even Wrath.
Yeah that's what makes the character interesting.
Wrath is not a Ben 10 alien?
@@franciscojavierruiziglesia1274That's Rath
wrath is just a word@@franciscojavierruiziglesia1274
@@franciscojavierruiziglesia1274he means Wrath as in Wrath and Scorn
The first time I ever saw Killer Moth was in Lego, and I immediately loved him.
He's my favorite to this day.
It sounds like Killer Moth needs the "Spot treatment." As in, have a story that treats him like a joke, while also showing how neat his powers are and how he could be a genuine threat.
By the end of it, no one will think he's a joke anymore...
I guess that the problem with that is that the Spot has a unique power which, when thought about, could be absolutely terrifying (as shown in Spider-verse), whereas Killer Moth... doesn't.
I think to make that work, we'd have to make him anti-Batman but like, *really* anti-Batman. Like, fighting skill, stealth, and technology are all on par or even better than Bruce Wayne. I just don't know how they'd make that work.
That being said, #SaveLegoKillerMoth
They have him stalk batman and when he thinks he's replicated most of batman's gadgets enough, he fights batman and fails but comes back now knowing g martial arts or somethjng
In the comics he does become a moth like man eating monster
@@mikejeffries3333I'm not saying Killer Moth needs needs to be a multiversal threat to be taken seriously, but if he were to outsmart Batman, or leave him in an impossible potion, that could work. Everyone knew Bane was a threat when he broke Batman's back... Moth just needs a moment like that.
Really, it depends how a writer treats the character. Moth could have been a respected villain for decades, but writers choose to make him a joke (just like Spot,) but an anti-Batman has a ton of story potential.
@@mikejeffries3333 maybe bring killer moth to a new height by rolling with the anti batman idea. Make him the anti vigilante by saving other villains or setup crimes to observe and adapt to Batman. Like taskmaster in the spiderman game.
He’s a threat because he’s a nuisance.
I am being dead serious when I say that Killer Moth would be a spectacular addition to Matt Reeves' The Batman trilogy.
Seriously, Batman learns there is some rich guy with a night creature motive helping out the thugs, making the cops hate him again after barely winning his trust after the riddler affair, which puts him on an investigation of who this new guy is, ending with a cock measuring contest fight with them using all their gadgets against each other
@@dantetouchdown9030This is a great premise. Good job
@@logicaltips4107 thanks, i have my moments
I fucking hope this happens
His character would fit
Killer Moth has more lines in LB3. He's in a Mr. Freeze mission on Qward, he's in a Harley Quinn mission in the Hall of Doom. And if you hover over his icon on the character menu, he sings the batman theme song with him instead. He may be in another mission, but I'm pretty sure he's not.
It’s the Freeze mission on Qward, not Ysmault. But yes, had much more appearance than LB2
@craigelbagel0012 woops. I was too busy looking up the name of the Red Lantern Planet to check if the mission was actually on that planet.
@@Qwilfish211 Lol thats fair. The planets do have wacky names. Am currently speedrunning lb3 so all that stuff is in my memory
Wow. Never have i felt so bad for a man in a moth costume. Truly an underdog story.
I always found something indescribably unique about the fact that Killer Moth, a completely random and unthreatening character, was the penultimate villain in the game before facing the Joker in the final level.
When it comes to LEGO Batman 3 I think Killer Moth was lucky to be apart of the main roster whereas Two Face was nowhere to be seen until being locked behind the Dark Knight DLC, which considering the wildly different popularity of the two I’d say this is a win for the Moth!
I’d like to note too that the render you were showing for the LEGO Batman Movie version of his minifigure was actually incorrect, the real life figure does indeed have stripe printing that wraps fully around his legs! Hopefully you like him a just little more now ; )
I have to note that the Harvester of Fear set’s Killer Moth minifigure is fantastic and one of my favorite villain minifigs, not even joking, it was a significant part of why I tracked the set down. He actually has a dual-sided head print under the mask, one side with goggles that create the effect for his eyes under the mask, and one with a scared expression where you can see his whole face. It’s great! Plus that mask piece he uses is a completely unique mold which is quite nice. The same set also includes a unique blue beetle minifig and the builds are top notch too, it’s my personal favorite Lego Batman set due only in part to my being a big Killer Moth fan
I couldn’t find the set myself but at comic con a few years back I found the figure in a used bin and was so excited
The figure is actually amazing, based, even, #KillerMothForLife
This is super cool to watch. I’ve been working with some people in the community to bring him to life in the way Lego never did. While UV printing won’t ever be the same as pad printing like Lego it’s still cool to bring such a passion project alive. He’s such a cool but simple figure.
Honestly and unironically I love Killer Moth, such an oddball villian that I learned to love via the first lego Batman game funny enough. His role in Teen Titans canon is also one of my favorite versions of him lol.
Killer Moth is a character James Gunn needs to adapt in some form in his DCU. I mean he made Peacemaker and Guardians of The Galaxy household names. Keep in mind Peacemaker was a D-Lister and now he has his own Action Figure, TV Show and he is appearing in Mortal Kombat 1.
Holy-- you saying his given name reminded me I included him in my high school era Batman fanfic that I was writing. That was so long ago that I don't remember what kind of role I gave him but I loved all the deep cut rogues gallery members and incorporating them. And speaking of deep cuts, I'm shocked Killer Moth hasn't been included in the Harley Quinn show, being that they keep including characters people have long forgotten.
i wouldn't say Killer Moth is forgotten
This is why I love BD1p. He's also apart of our killer moth community. Thank you. This video deserves the title "OH LIGHTBULB"
Honestly, I would love it if killer moth appeared in a serious Batman film as a gag villain.
Imagine the next Matt reeves Batman film opening with Batman hunting down this mercenary in the criminal underworld… Only for it to be revealed to be killer moth. (I’d say to clash with the dark, realistic design of the Batman, his costume should look as if he went to a thrift shop, grabbed as many Halloween costume pieces as he could and then threw a bulletproof vest, wings, and a helmet on top of it.)
There’s a pre-fight scene but ultimately it ends in a way that foreshadows the actual main villain of the film with killer moth being more of a loving Easter egg/appetizer to showcase what’s to come
i never knew how irrelivant killer moth was i always thought he was more prominant than condiment king, calendar man, any other gag characters due to how he was in 2 levels in lego batman 1 and showed up in the following 2 lego batman games
Something that always stuck out to me about killer moth in the Lego games is that despite him having one of the goofier costumes, the original Lego version is actually kinda cool. It translated better somehow.
I’m with you on the voice in 3. That Boston accent just works for me.
bd1p is truly the only person that could make a 16 minutes video about the history of Lego Killer Moth
The best part about this character is that when you think about how even outside of Lego he's treated kinda like dirt, he was far from the only one. And if we live in a world where Kite Man (Hell yeah!) can be memed into a cult favorite character, I think Killer Moth should get that treatment too!
I’ve always liked Killer Moth. He seems really cool to me and his costume isn’t even that silly.
I remember one comic where Booster Gold goes back in time and robs a museum to protect the time stream. To cover his tracks, he pretends to be Killer Moth. That causes Killer Moth to get tons of street cred, getting his anti-Batman thing to actually stick, and he actually kills Batman and takes over Gotham. It's amazing
Always been such a massive fan of killer moth and man bat.
I’ve always been interested in this character, so to see him get a lot of love is refreshing. We need more Killer Moth content in DC overall. Lego Batman 4, the Harley Quinn animated series, one of the live action shows, the comics, even that upcoming Amazon Prime animated Batman show, hell put him in one of the Battinson movies! He’s got a great design, schtick, and personality that could translate so well to a non-video game format.
Killer Moth was my favorite Lego Batman character solely because of how little he had. It left so much up for interpretation and if I could own a minifigure I would
You can tho
Killer Moth has always been my favorite Batman villain since I discovered him in Lego Batman 1 when I was a child. Thank you for shedding some light to our Moth 🦋
This is what the world needed
But not what the world deserves (our world is not yet worthy)
the b in bd1p stands for The Complete History of LEGO: Killer Moth
always loved the idea of killer moth and its great to see other that share my love for the character. #savelegokillermoth
the goat himself, if im not mistaken (or if it was already mentioned in the vid), moth is the only og villain other than hush not in supervillains
Ending made me tear up a bit #SAVELEGOKILLERMOTH
I think you forgot to mention his inclusion in lego batman 3 's "the squad" dlc where he shows up in the ending cutscene of the level
This video gave me some genuine appreciation for killer moth as a character
While Killer Moth is treated like crap,I’ll give you one character treated just as bad if not worse:Mad Hatter. Never given a physical minifigure, only found in the store in LB1, treated like a joke in the games he’s in. Basically forgotten about in LDCSV outside of the dlc.
I love how this character has so much love just because we thought he was cool and funny when we were kids playing Lego batman
They made such a good mold the first time around. It’s a shame they just used the cmf bee lady’s hat the other 2 times.
Someone needs to do to killer moth
what spiderverse did for the spot.
Make him actually threatening.
Hey buddy, good video. I would probably drop the standing and talking greenscreen scanline bit though. It's a bit distracting when I'm just trying to learn about killer moth.
Maby not watch the video then, just listen to it.People dont have to tend to 1 persons opinions. He can do whatever he wants
@@Silver-Nao "Maby not watch the video then just listen to it. People dont have to tend to 1 persons opinions. He can do whatever he wants" 🤓🤓🤓🤓🤓🤓🤓🤓
He was one of my fav characters in lego batman which was my first lego game
I always thought he was one of the coolest characters in the game, especially considering he was the second-to-last boss battle. I never realised he was such a mystery elsewhere.
1:55 I could be wrong, but I think this might be a reference to the Teen Titans Anime. The design highly resembles the version of killer moth that appeared in that show, just in Lego form. That doesn’t mean it looks good, I’m just saying if that was the intention it plays its role well
He’s been my favorite Batman villain for a couple years now
Getting James on this is incredible.
I'm gonna be a total nerd here and say that comics wise, it appears one of the biggest things holding Killer Moth back is his reputation. In Booster Gold's comic series, when Booster pretends to be him and beats Batman once Killer Moth eventually becomes a very competent guy in the future.
YAY ITS THE FUNNY BUG MAN
Hi
@@ked49 riggy fan
The mini killer moth design makes him look like a bootleg version of Monarch's henchmen from Venture Bros.
Thought it was just me that had a weird love for killer moth and discovered him from the Lego games. And those games treated him so weirdly that I 1. didn’t even know his whole idea was that he was supposed to be a parallel to Batman, and 2. I either forgot or didn’t even know he was in the third game lol
I think he could really work as the next ATSV spot type character. And I’d love to see it.
When I was young I thought this character and Fire Fly was the same
9:20. How tf do you disrespect Killer Moth like that for Condiment King? CK is not even funny. (Ranting to the game not ur vid or content). Also what do they animated series makers mean “oh there’s no good story for him?!” I think that episode where condiment king appeared in with the comedians Joker brainwashed would’ve been a GREAT episode for Killer Moth. Sure he would just be a brainwashed dude in the end, but I’d still take that over not including my beloved Batman villain in the greatest animated show ever
To be honest I'm not entirely sure why the character won't get a chance at all, there are DC characters I can understand being ditched & let forgotten like Zodiac Master, Polka-Dot Man or Condiment King, but Killer Moth? He actually has the ability of flight, a lethal weapon, & a striking attire that makes him a fun & also deadly enemy for Batman. There are lots of other animal-based enemies to Batman, much more respected by the universe & the writers who are genuinely dumber characters than Killer Moth like The Penguin or Man-Bat: Unthreatening antagonists deriving from stupid or harmless animals. How did those two rise to become some of Batman's most popular while Killer Moth is treated as a complete joke? I think if the writers of another Batman film or the new Batman comics ever decided to write Killer Moth a revenge story, it would be one hell of a twisted ride. Remember, Killer Moth is attempting to emulate Batman as a villain, which means in the comics he's actually one of the richest men in Gotham & has his own Moth cave, & subsequently KNOWS who Batman is in the comics, which could make for a serious force & an awesome storyline. That is something I'd love to see, a plot untapped by Warner Bros.
I feel like his strange affinity to light COULD be tied to why he was in Arkham. While Arkham is kinda just treated like a max-security prison in the LEGO games, they do make it so that even the inmates that are usually normal have something quirky about them, such as Catwoman actually acting like a cat sometimes. I feel like it could be assumed that the reason Killer Moth is in Arkham could be his strange affinity to light even though he’s a normal human.
TL;DR, Moth like light so he in Arkham.
I ALWAYS LOVED KILLER MOTH WHEN I WAS A KID WHY DO PEOPLE NOT LIKE HIM HES PERFECT
Best ending tbh we shall get him in the new game! ☺
It's bizarre how much of Batman's rogues gallery started out just as ridiculous as Killer Moth but they were somehow given the respect they deserved and evolved into deep, serious renditions. Killer Moth has yet to get the same glow up and it's confusing and makes me angry.
Yeah, one side of me really loves the oddball underdog slick, but the other can’t bear the disrespect of him being compared to the likes of Condiment King (No hatred to CK, but KM isn’t that Goofy)
I remember reading a comic that was about Moth, and it had an interesting take on the character:
Killer Moth doesn't need to be a big-lister, in fact, he shouldn't be, he needs to be a goon for bigger villains like Joker and Riddler, he needs to be a joke, so he can rob the supervillains blind, swipe a wallet from a unconscious henchman, he doesn't need to be a supervillain, he needs to be a rat, and he'll be a damn good rat
im honestly surprised and happy someone is mentioning lego killer moth. i always wanted a minifigure of his in-game depictions, specifically the helmet. he was always 100% my favorite character design in lego batman 1 and i'd love to see him return. also, did not expect to hear c0ncernn at the end of the video, but that makes me respect you even more.
Inspiring. I'm on my way to draw/write about Killer Moth #SAVELEGOKILLERMOTH
We need to make Lego Killer moth at least a main villian in LG4. If he isn’t I’m busting in TT games and maybe causing some destruction while I’m at it

I saw the hashtag on Twitter, and got curious to what was happening, and my eyes have truly been opened.
Idk why I like killer moth but I jus do
It would be cool if they gave him some connection to West Virginia, saying that he was inspired by Mothman. Maybe he was afraid of Mothman the way Bruce Wayne was afraid of bats.
This video inspired me to buy a killer moth Minifigure and to 3d print a custom head piece
Cool, watchtower
Honestly didn’t expect that. I just got done listening to their new podcast episode, so this is a welcome surprise.
His design in Batman 1 didnt have to go that hard. Thought he was a badass as a kiddo
This has the same vibe as me obsessing over the one background character that had, like, 2 lines in an entire show and one piece of merchandise (if even that), and I love it! 😂
The 2016 design was peak. I have the figure he's amazing.
Yeah, my top 3 favorite designs in the first lego Batman are scarecrow, manbat, and killer moth. We need actual figures accurately portraying those 3.
I can’t wait to see this on the Killer Moth preservation society page
Let make Killer Moth a decent villian not a meme
Here is the most underrated LEGO DC character.
I love how you were able to make a almost 20 min video on kind of a niche character since we don’t have too much info on him!
Also who would win firefly or killer moth
we gotta save #SAVELEGOKILLERMOTH!!!!!!!!! we can't let him become irrelevant we gotta do something

Im a little old and i dont have any of those social media, can some kind young soul help propogate this in my stead? My nephew loved killer moth when he was playing lego btman 1
I gotchu bro
I’ve always liked Killer Moth a lot. I don’t know why. When I was about 6, I wanted to make a fan film with him as the only villain (I never did, and I’m sure it would’ve sucked, but still). The first Batman stop-motion I made had him as the antagonist (don’t watch it, it sucks).
I think the best way to depict him is to play him completely seriously despite how goofy he is. Make the joke that he is a joke that isn’t treated like one.
I was blanking on him being in beyond gotham until I heard “Oh light bulb!”
I recently saw something about killer moth about 1 week ago
this video rocks. Might have to include Killer moth in my next project
I think the legendary Killer Moth has been referenced in Lego DC Supervillains. One of the gold bricks at Wayne Manor is labelled as "There's a Bat In My house" where one of the goons says that 'boss' is sensitive to light and will go ZAP. It could be referencing Killer Moth since he has based off his persona from Batman and also *temporarily* had a mansion like Bruce Wayne and in the previous Lego instalments, Killer Moth has a weird obsession with lights and from the first game he does get zapped from Joker using his Electrifying hand thing on the lamp post he was attracted to. 14:32
Here’s an idea that I’ve been kicking around for a while: what if Killer Moth had a transformation ability? He could cocoon himself in silk like Spider-Man does to switch to Peter Parker in the LEGO Marvel games, then burst out as Charaxes, giving him some additional abilities such as super strength. It could be a neat way to give him some added utility. That, and I just think that transformation abilities in LEGO games are cool.
I too would give Killer Moth more screen time than Hush
Justice to Killer Moth! #SAFELEGOKILLERMOTH !
Our boy will never be forgiven, he is my favorite character in the first LEGO Batman game, so I am going to fight for him!
He's using children to save a video game I respect him
man i loved this lego dude as a kid, thanks for the vid man
sir,
you have sent me on a quest that i am as equally unprepared for as you are .
First, I should mention that my intro to Killer Moth was the og Lego Batman (on wii). A game that I must shamefully admit, I have beaten on 4 systems. I love that game. Killer moth is a C tier villain in it, but he is definitely there. The more I played this game, the more I realised that his "C tier" made him a more intersting character. Scarecrow, Clayface, hell, even Mad Hatter had a decent story in that game because the focus of each villain's arc was how their limitations allowed Batman and Robin to stop them as well as their "super team". I think his 'canonicity' is as notable as other 'no name' villains that appear in those games, and I think his addition allows that story to alternate between "threats" (like joker, twoface, ridler, etc.) and the mentally ill people he needs to protect the city from (harley, killer moth, mad hatter). This alternation between the 2 groups allow the observer to develope an understanding of batman as a character who is able to both be the cunning detective who can see through the muck to catch a criminal and the human who is hurt by a villain and reacts in an irrational way, but catches the villain through his understanding of their humanity.
You did an amzing job demonstrating that killer moth has potential as a villain and can be displayed without the viewer thinking of them as a joke, but for killer moth to break out past the comic book pages, I think he needs to be displayed in the same way we have displayed villains like the green goblin.
The character can be both intelligent and an oppisite to batman, as long as you make sure that both his introduction and his capture display him as a competent villain who was only stopped because batman was more competent.
Batman villains are hard to depict because of the balance between their mental illness and their objective, but this game does a good job of it because it is willing to make its villains either comedic effigies and important roles.
Either way, I think your depiction of both the games and comics he appeared in show both killer moth's unique flavor and his parallels to batman.
Thanks for the vid, keep it up.
That’s because in 2:53 Hush or Ra’s Al Gul are not part of the story of the first Lego game. They are both unlockables when rescuing all of the hostages (for Hush) and getting a 100% (for RAG tmk)
The concept of another rich guy inventing a high tech suit and gadgets to commit crimes in Gotham has really interesting story potential. Imagine if Bruce Wayne realized Killer Moth must be rich too, and began doing detective work to figure out his identity. And then Killer Moth did the same with Batman and it was a race to narrow down who's who. They could even have spoken at wealthy social events befote unknowingly
This video is so targeted to me, thank you for this.
bd1p Will do literally everything just to avoid Bionicle Heroes. What a legend!
Only good TV appearances I've seen is that one episode of Teen Titans, they actually made him a threat. The Batman's version in the episode Team Penguin was great too. The LEGO Batman DS version is based on his look from Teen Titans if I'm not mistaken, so I think that's neat.
I’m a simple man when I see KillerMoth I Click
I always loved killer moth growing up and always wanted the lego minfig of him but I was a kid and there was no figure of him back then but I do remember getting a Mr.Freeze in a fancy box. But a few years ago I ordered that new one in that 2016 farm set and put a white sticker on his face so he has white eyes like in the game, he is so underrated and such a shame that he isnt given enough love :,(
This is exactly the kind of content I want to see. Beautiful!
Love the video, but I have one criticism. I felt like you being in the frame for most of the video didn't add anything to the content, yet really distracted me from what I wanted to watch, which was the game footage that you had in the background. Otherwise great stuff, you're killing it.
