A GOTHAM FAIRYTALE - Batman Animatic for Muse "Knights of Cydonia"
HTML-код

- "A Gotham Fairytale" is my original Batman story done as an animatic to Muse's "Knights of Cydonia." Composed of over 200 black and white illustrations, it depicts the dark imagination of a little girl as she's listening to a bedtime fairytale told by her grandmother.
This project is a personal labor of love and not intended for commercial use. It is a tribute to the spirit of the Batman mythology and the awesomeness of the music of Muse. All characters, elements and music are copyrights of their respective owners.
Batman created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger. Batman and all related characters and elements are trademarks and copyrights of DC Comics. "Knights of Cydonia" written by Matt Bellamy, performed by MUSE off of BLACK HOLES AND REVELATIONS (2006 Warner Bros. Records, Helium-3, A&E Records Ltd)

Seven years are passed and this is still one of the greatest Batman things ever created.
Your words truly humble me! Many thanks for continuing to watch this and glad you enjoy it :)
Totally agree👍
its now 9yrs and i agree
Me too. Over the years I have been coming back here to watch this masterpiece. It truly is a gem of a batman piece. My hats off to you mr Mauricio.
@@HectorHadoken his talent truly payed off, cuz right now he's working as a background painter for the new animated series "Batman: Caped Crusader" produced by Bruce Timm, Matt Reeves and J.J. Abrams!
I've heard that they're going to use a very modern and advanced animation style, so knowing Mr. Abril's style and knowing the direction the industry is currently going with, I think we could be in for a "Batman: The Animated Series" mixed with "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" with this one, which sounds so awesome to me.
The only thing missing in this is for Terry McGinnis/Batman Beyond to fly past the window at the end, showing that the legacy of Batman lives on just as how this animatic is still awesome nearly a decade later.
Or the bat signal in the sky would be good too
An excellent revelation at the end, it really got me! Suddenly I realized how meaninful this is because if it wasn't for Batman the kidnapped little girl wouldn't be alive to grow up and her granddaughter to which the story is being told to wouldn't exist... So simple but beautiful to me, takes back Batman to his roots which have always been about saving innocent lives. Great job on both the art and the story!
Thank you very much! I very much agree about Batman's roots - my favorite stories are the ones where he's fighting normal criminals or organized crime from the shadows. Cheers!
People often forget that hope is such a important thing about Batman he has hope for the salvation of Gotham he has hope that he won't be needed forever he has hope that those he stops will learn the error of their ways (in some versions at least)
Amazing work. DC should goddamn hire you.
They really should
They still should
They still still should
They did
@@srguapo3158 can you confirm this?
this is probably one of the most(i dare say) the most amazing adaption of the dark knight. Even In Chris Nolan's films the Joker never harmed children..... All the kutos to Mauricio for creating this masterpiece along with A Smallville Man. Hope to see more videos of yours soon!
Thank you, Daniel Kumi I can honestly say that comments like yours from fans all around the world continue to make me glad that I put all that time and work into it. I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Unrelated, but I thought your typo was funny. I’m sure you meant kudos, but kuto in Filipino means lice, lol.
A big thank you for your appreciation. As a diehard fanboy, I'm just glad that this captures the spirit of the characters and mythology.
I'm a huge MUSE fan; this was my introduction to "Knights of Cydonia" actually. Every time I hear it now, this is what I think of. It's just so perfect, and so well done.
4:08 I see what you did there :)
Ok... wat I see is he got the idea from the animated series where he gets to kicking ass? At least that's wat I think. I'm probably wrong. But then again I am a die-hard fan as well this video was freaking amazing
Everything about The Batman is something Legendary......
One Story,
One Artist
and Thousand Viewers.
In One Word "*Brilliant*".
THX for this Video!
The fact that still images create a story like this that can be easily followed is amazing in itself. But the symbolism and the art in the animation creates an animation that represents Batman perfectly.
2 years and i still watch it and share it. Love this still.
Thank you! I appreciate that and I'm glad it still holds up :)
Wait this video from 6 year ago?!?!!
It's still a brilliant creation after 7 years.
8 years have passed and this is still amazing. Who is here in 2022 after seeing The Batman?
Thank you, my friend! I'm glad you enjoyed it. Hope you like the next one!
Man I'm content with this being the new theme for Batman.
Great touch having the old woman being the young girl captured by Joker in the story.
Thanks so much! I feel the same way about both things, and when I had the idea to combine the two, I just felt like there was something there for me to develop. And YES, I already have a story baking in my mind for a specific Superman one that I want to do, so I plan on developing that. And funny enough, before I finished this one, I got an idea for another Batman one that I also want to do, so there's also that. If only I had more free time...
Thank you! Someone mentioned they thought it was The Animated Series meets the graphic novel Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth. That wasn't my direct intention, but I've loved that book, so I can see how it might be there subconsciously.
this and your superman one, makes me wonder if a comic book/ graphic novel could be made to tell a great story with no words. Much how your videos do.
Almost 9yrs ago this masterpiece was created.
This is absolutely amazing, one of the greatest batman animatics out there!
I've watched this several times, but never left a comment. So it's about damn time, I love this, it's beautiful!
Not a problem. Thank you for taking the time to let me know. It's little things like that that made it all worthwhile, and that keep me motivated while working on my next one :)
I can only hope! Thank you for watching and glad you enjoyed it!
Some of the artwork here legitimately took my breath away.
People like Neal Adams and Jim Lee would be proud of the masterful level of shading used.
After so many years i am still addicted to this piece of Art.
Thank you, Daniel! I'm truly honored that my work can speak to you like that. Cheers!
How have I just found out about this??? IT'S BEAUTIFUL
so many years and I'm still watching this video
for something made in 2013, this is insanely impressive, amazing job! i love this. so much detail, very expressive, great perspective, and awesome lighting!
This is a masterpiece.
I am horrified on how good you made an animatic look imagine the full animation 😮
I used to always watch this for my bedtime story. And it became a habit of me begging my mom to play it.everynight
Wow, that's so cool to hear! I'm glad you liked it, and I hope it helped you have lots of good sleep :)
This video always brings me to tears
I've watched this for years now
It is my favorite video on RUclips
Thank you very much for creating this and A Smallville Man, it represents both characters perfectly, also both songs fits flawlessly.
Outstanding work!
Thank you, Lucas! That means a lot. I'm honored that you would still watch this after so long. Thank you and much health and happiness to you and yours!
During my Junior year of High School I was in an English class of about only ten students. Only four of us showed up most of the time, and one day I was geeking out about Batman and showed them this as the definitive representation.
This is, without a doubt the best Batman Fan Short i've EVER seen! The images is like a darker Batman TAS, Haunting and stunning, the story is simple and solid, the music belongs to the video... Hell i don't think the song will ever be the same to me again.
Thanks man! From a Bat-fan to another.
I'll see this many times!
Absolument brillant, cet auteur doit vraiment travailler pour DC aussi vite que possible.
Damn.
Just...damn.
The chills started running down my spine about thirty seconds in, and they never stopped.
I'm very happy I'm not the only one who thinks this song could be a batman song. Good job!
I love how fan content is more true to the concept of Batman and his villains than the official content.
Can't believe I'm only now seeing this- It was fantastic!!
That was next level work man, totally killed it. Keep doin your thing.
+Matthew Blanco Thanks very much, Matt!
+Mauricio Abril
I did this with your fantastic art, hope you don't mind
watch?v=SCowWteESa0
this is so underrated
Amazing! Thank you so much for this! Finally, a Batman animatic with the Joker that actually gets the characters right! This was superb!
Thank you so much! And yes, I am excited about working on a follow up. Right now I have ideas for both a Superman story and another Batman one.
Def enjoyed the artwork.
ROFL @ "come on lawyers, why so serious?" Nice touch!
I am so happy RUclips gave me this today.
Its amazing
I'm really glad you liked it, especially since I struggled for a good while trying to find the right combination of a loose, graphic animated aesthetic meets film noir meets ink brush.
I think it's great that @5:58 he basically makes this a love letter to the people who made BTAS.
It's also kind of sad that I know those guys by their first names.
The way the video and story mirror the tempo and pace of the song is quite special. Im sure Muse would be proud
"A couple years back, Uncle Ben sneaked me in to see the Frankenstein movie. It gave me nightmares. I woke up and Uncle Ben was holding me in his arms. I expected him to tell me there's no such thing as monsters, but I guess he figured I was old enough to know better. So he did the next best thing. He promised to keep me safe from monsters. I wish I could have done the same for him."
-from Spider-Man Noir.
Oh, man... This is f***cking awesome! Amazing and wonderful! Congratulations! Expecting for more!
You honor the Bat with this work of art friend! awesome job, inspired and inspiring.
+Dean Miller Thanks very much, Dean! It's comments like yours that made this that much more worthwhile. It was made for fans by a fan!
+Mauricio Abril hey, fancy that 2 abrils are talented artists and like muse, or is that just your username?
Hi, sorry. I didn't see your comment until just now. Yeah, that's my official last name and yes I love Muse too!
same!! ( and don't be sorry, dude ).
I love Muse, and the Killers for my alt. rock .
I do love my 60's rock too
9 years! And it's absolutely incredible
1:13 maximum NOPE engaged
I just love this and i'll keep rewatching it
I always love coming back to this video. Still top notch
That was very moving and fantastic. I love the dedication to the TAS crew/ suck nostalgia
Absolutely incredible!! Would love to watch a video like this fully animated!
back again to sing and cry at this masterpeice.
Absolutely amazing work and wonderfully in tune with the Batman Verse. Felt very on brand and very true to the characters. Keep up the good work.
Thank you, Jessica! I sketched some stuff on paper, but all of the finished art was done in photoshop and edited in After Effects.
Wow, thank you so much for your praise. Believe me, working on this for months on end, spending the majority of my free time on a project that meant so much to me but that I didn't know would make a difference for anyone else out there was very anxious at times. But I did it in the hopes that it would excite and entertain people and I'm glad it did.
Great job! You capture the mood of both batman and superman so gracefully.
Thank you for the support! I did it because since I was young I've always had a desire to want to create things superhero related. As a fan-made project, all I'm looking for is to have people see it and hopefully enjoy it.
This is such a cool and fascinating way to tell a story. The artwork and ability to tell a tale with such little dialogue is incredibly impressive.
obviously the detail and the lighting of this are both incredible, but what really stood out to me is the texture details put into this! beautiful work!
this is absolutely stunning!! i was in awe during every second of it
No problem! Please keep making these! I look forward to more!!
It's animatics like these that make me wanna make animatics 👏love the art and music!
This is really awesome! I love the little subtleties and details put into this. The timing and action go really well with the music. And the artwork is just gorgeous; I really like how it's black and white. Great work on this! :D
This is so insanely awesome I really can’t even put it into words
Wow, so glad this is being well-received. Thank you!
Yes, exactly! I don't think my project would've even existed had that series never come out. It was my way of tipping my hat to that team.
Beautiful! Every time I watch this I wish it was a movie.
Absolutely in love with this!! The art lends perfectly to the vibes, and feels like something straight out of a Batman Black and White Comic! It all goes so well with the music too!! Deserves more recognition really
it beautiful. I've been looking at this for 5 hours now!
This is SO COOL!! I absolutely love it!!
Getting close to 10 years since this was made and it's still just so fuckin awesome
This was so freaking amazing! Great job!!!
AMAZING!! love it, thanks for sharing!
That was a pretty terrifying bedtime story.
Awesome work man!
Damn! That ending tho, 10/10.
Extremely impressive work, my friend! It's a great self-contained story that could've easily been a part of an anthology series like Batman: Black & White. Hopefully this gets more exposure and recognition. :)
Great work, man! Very true to the characters. Loved the camera angles and lightning/shadowing. Great music choice too. Batman fans around the world will be glad this work exists!
Dude this video gave me Chills. My hat is off and I bow deeply to your excellent work.
Brilliant! Terrific illustrations in tandem with the music very well. Loved the "A Smallville Man" as well. I feel that both videos nicely caught the essence of their respective characters. The music for each video served each piece very well. I half expected the old lady in "AGF" to be Dr. Leslie Tompkins, of the Batman-lore, at first. Moving stories and the narrative somewhat reminded me of the Alex Ross books "Batman: War on Crime" (1999) and "Superman: Peace on Earth" (1998). -- I sincerely hope each of these videos will be followed by many sequels. I would love to see your spin on the further adventures of the Dark Knight and the Man of Steel. --- Thank You for the Wonderful Work, ~ Ty
You did a fantastic job and music selection was dead on.
Simply brilliant man!!!!!1 Eagerly waiting for the next one
Wow this is awesome!! The art style is perfect for this and the music makes it even better!
There will be soon! I didn't anticipate the kind of reaction this has been getting, so I didn't want to commit the amount of time it would take to do this, but I plan to create a separate blog where you can see the art individually and sequentially and you can pull your favorites from there. I'll announce that on my site, blog as well as this youtube channel so stay tuned.
This is beyond amazing. Cheers
Dude, this was amazing. So so sooo good!! Great job
HOLY NECK TIE BATMAN THIS IS AMAZING
seriously you peoples this is some really great art what the heck
Thanks a bunch! I'm glad you liked it and thanks for watching :)
Very well put together! Gotta share it
how are you not a frikin legend on youtube yet dood this was amazing excellent work
Art in this is amazing!
Mauricio, I can easily see when someone creates a masterpiece, and this is the case!!! It's a simple, but totally effective sum up of everything the Bat-Man is about!!! Muse's music is perfectly in tune!!! I have no words to describe how awesome it is!!! MERAVIGLIOSO!!! :D
Amazing work done with a subtle, master's hand. Kudos!
This is just amazing! It's powerful, brilliant and beautiful! One of the best videos on RUclips!
This is brilliant, the art style is amazing
Holy crap, that was amazing!! Thank you for making that!
