Indian Royalty today, I think is more an inherited title that still is respected, specially by people of the territory they once ruled....... but their responsibilities are more default by nature..... .. with them having to let go of their privy purse too......... they had to look for other ways of bussineses.... specially the hotel business to maintain their standard of living.... & I must say, they have been doing brilliantly in that field.... hats off to them........ I am a product of the landlord class of Mangalore region...... the similarities are there with regard to our lifestyles in the past.......& we have moved on too..........

If they didn't turn it into hotels to maintain the cost of those forts...they would long have been destroyed by nature, cuz I have seen many forts of our area....destroyed over time....its our history, but the government never took steps to preserve it. Atleast these people have managed to maintain our historical monuments. That being said, even me and my family cant afford a stay at any of these heritage hotels...but then again, who even cares :D
