  • In this episode of Raja Rasoi Aur Anya Kahaniyaan, explore Mayurbhanj, the largest district in Odisha (previously Orrisa), featuring the charming town of Baripada as its hub. Known for its rich history, this region was once a refuge for the Pandavas during the Mahabharata era, under the benevolent rule of King Virata.
Mayurbhanj thrived during the British rule, thanks to the progressive initiatives of Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanj Deo. His legacy lives on through the dedicated efforts of the current young princesses, Mrinalika and Akhshita, who are tirelessly working to uplift the local tribal communities.
This district has not only preserved its historical significance but has also carved a niche in India's culinary landscape. Mayurbhanj's unique blend of tribal and royal cuisines sets it apart, creating a taste that is unmatched in Odisha.
Join us as we delve into the cultural tapestry and flavors of Mayurbhanj, where tradition meets progress, and history merges with modernity. Subscribe for a journey through the heart of this captivating district!

Mayurbhanj itself was a "Gadajata State" province before the independence. Shriram Chandra Bhanjadeo was one of the architects of Odisha from the Northern Odisha along with Maharaja Krushnachandra Gajapati of the Southern Odisha. Mayurbhanj is truly amazing and the tagline "the land of art, culture and food" is truly justified. Love ❤ from Baleshwar: A proud neighbour of this amazing district of Odisha.

Baripada, my ancestors' place. My great grandfather Late Surendranarh Mukherjee was a judge under most probably great Sriramchandra Bhanjdeo. My late dad used to remember him and learned Sucharu Devi. Dad felt proud that they were under a proper raja, not a fake one like a zaminder. Dad visited Baripada and saw where they used to live before he passed away. Thanks Epic, you brought tears in my eyes😢😢.

Our Bhanja Rajas and raj vansh were always loved and respected by their praja. It really feels good seeing our dishes and culture recognised and accepted by the world.

Its not only santal ( adivasi) , Bathudi Samuday, and many others co-exist with love and affection to each other... They Said Odisha is the Best kept Secret of India.. I would also say its Mayurbhanj which resembles the same.. From childhood i am outside odisha but i never ever forgotten my roots... I always invite my colleagues and my foreign counterparts to come visit my area.. Belgadia palace, similipal, Barehipani, Kala Dam, sunei Dam, Samabrukhya, Sitakund and many more beautiful places... His highness, Sri Rama Chandra Bhanja Deo was a visionary and an author of development in all true senses, the sketches are exquisite. Maharaja displayed visionary leadership, advancing architecture and infrastructure in his princely state. His transformative initiatives left an enduring impact, elevating Mayurbhanj's development under his highness's reign.

Hello, I live on the other side of the bengal odisha border. Baripada is a beautiful town. The town speaks volumes about the greatness of the monarchs. People revere their former kings.
The song at around 21 minutes goes like "bhati songe pui khada, tar songe geri duta". It is very similar to manbhum bangla. People of Princely states of Manbhum, singhbhum, mayurbhanj , kharswan etc had a strong connection in the past.

This is really an interesting narration of Mayurbhanj and its history. Just one mistake was found by me as an native to Baripada . In ramrochak tarkari we don't use tomato only brinjal and alu were used and one more thing we don't prefer eating dala khechudi with other non vegetarian items because its very secrad dish and its for prasad .

At 26:34, she broke the huge minar of respect that was created in this whole episode. For a lineage of that man who mapped odisha, for the granddaughter of that legend who unified odisha, it's a shame when she says, you can't call it odia, don't divide what your forefathers tried to unite. Its painful to see the lack of pride in calling yourself and your culture as Odia culture. This mentality is what is dividing Odisha.. let's not do this.. let's not break that's man's dream whose photo is decorated in your walls. If you can decorate his ideas in your heart, you will also be remembered long after you are gone.
Mayurbhanj was, is and will always be a pride of Odisha!
