In my experience, wet performance comes down to the gaps been the tread. With the square blocks, both of these tires do ok in the wet for a 50/50 tire. I took them in some deep mud and made it up everything.
I'm running this combo on my cbr500r. Couldn't get a tkc 170 rear, but a kenda was available. Thanks for putting my mind at ease. Good video, especially at 2x speed.
I use TKC's for front and rear, in pretty much the same set up on a crf250. The roads near me are all dirt and/or shitty surfaces, no smooth tarmac anywhere. These tires on SM'S for my style of riding are perfect, i never feel unsettled in a corner and have yet to be stopped off road cause they can't get through something.
Where I live it rains 24/7. I ride the TKC80s in the rain regularly. No stoppies in the rain for sure. And my 701 has some fancy tech, tilt aware traction control, etc. I do leave the front ABS on in the rain. But I’m comfortable riding with them. You’re right about everything you said of course tho.
Thanks for the video. I installed shinko 705. I am impressed with the stopping distance and wet asphalt performance. I aire down and have no problems getting through gravel and packed dirt roads. Like you said with your triangle I avoid sand and mud only now. I will buy this tire again over the kenda big block. Front was $50 US dollars on Amazon, back $60. I also use perreli Mt 21 for off road majority trips.
The problem with TKC80 tires for this type of application is that TKC80's are for 450lb adventure bikes. It would be nice if they made a TKC80 tire for 275lb bikes with a softer rubber compound. This would give it more grip on the pavement in the wet.
It makes them last longer, though. I run lower tire pressures, which helps a lot. I adjusted my riding and didn't have any issues in the rain, later on.
I'm really interested in the Motoz, unfortunately, no one imports them here. I'm going to switch to a 21 inch in the front and we'll see what kind of difference it makes. It'll open up a lot of choices on tires, but I'm not sure I need to go way more aggressive, considering I ride on the road a lot.
Appreciate your video! I like how the TKC 80 looks on your SM compared to how everybody else's looks with a slightly slimmer (but still too fat) rear as a front.
Thanks. It's not a rear tire. TKC80 comes in 120/60/17 for the front. Really convenient. One day I'll upgrade to a 21 inch. It's hard to do on this bike, actually. It'll open up tire options for me, though.
Thanks for the review of the front tkc80 in 17" exactly what I was looking for. Wishing I had gone with a tkc80 on the front of my duke 390, tho I'm happy with my pirelli scorpion rally str rear tire it's got enough traction I all areas, but the front I bought to match is great on road and not that great in mud, snow and wet grass. Have you considered trying a shinko sr241 front tire? I think they come in a size that would fit your bike
I switched to a 21 inch front and then I sold the Husky and got a WR450. I run as aggressive offroad tires as I can get away with these days. The SR241 looks like a classic tire. It's cheap. Not sure what the road traction would be like. I think the Scorpion Rally STR is a better choice for the Duke because it's not going to be a 50/50 dual sport bike. It'll always be a road bike.
@@ExpatonTwoWheels the sr241 isn't an option for the duke unless I move the front fender. But I really enjoyed it on my tw200 and it was alot better offroad than I thought I would be. Also the duke 390 is alot better offroad than you'd think. Feels like any supermoto but with a different seat and tank. My duke 390 with upgraded skidplate has over am inch more ground clearance than a adv390 and was only $3000usd used with 3000miles. I couldn't find a better supermoto where I live for the same $.

@@kabouterWesley1 when I was running the MT60, they didn't have a 150, so I ran a 160 and it fit without any issues. The Big Block or TKC 80 would be a much better option, though. I think the Shinko 805 also comes in 150/70/17. It's cheap in the US, but it's a bit expensive here. For the front, you have to run a TKC80 or maybe a Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR. There aren't many 17 inch front choices.
Also important to know how tires perform off-road-wet. Most do okay dry but wet can be a challenge.

Thorough as hell man. Love the triangle concept. Thanks for giving all the info and insights

How it compares to MT60RS?
Your legs, are they prostheses? Or can legs be so narrow?
Nice video, can they be mounted on a 17x5 rim? Can't seem to find a lot of information about the rim width...
Yes. I run a 150/60/17 on a 17x5 rear rim. The one pictured is a 4.5, but I had a set of wheels that were 5 inch in the rear
