Turns out there was no AI or algorithms to detect what you picked up, they just had over 1000 people in India watching you through the cameras as you walked around the shop. It worked just like any other grocery store but they moved the cashiers to a third world country. Completely dystopian

Technically, you can go no contact in any store provided you don’t want to buy something they keep locked up. Just place the items on the belt, give them cash, take your change and bags, and walk away.

Yeah thing is it's pretty easy to steal an item or two from Wal-Mart for that reason. The one person can't really watch everyone during a busy time. And it doesn't have advanced sensors like this Amazon shop. On the other hand I imagine such elaborate security would make it too expensive to build a Super Center size Amazon store but who knows.
@@Sifer2 A way people could steal in self checkouts is to wait until it's busy and when the cashier isn't looking, put your expensive items on the scale and ring them up as a cheap produce item. As long as your receipt isn't checked when you leave the store you could probably save 30% (or more) doing that.

You can store them in your pocket or bag, then walk around and then pick up your second item. I don't think anyone going to be stalking you as you walk around and nitpick everything you're getting.
Amazon returns usually just tells you to keep the item and give you a refund or send you another item. I ordered a fiberglass RC helicopter canopy and Amazon sent it via USPS in a bag instead of a box and the canopy arrived crushed. I was refunded my $50 and told to keep the canopy. I was able to glue the fiberglass canopy back into shape so I got it for free. Amazon listed an item as delivered but I never received it. Amazon sent on a new order overnight. Amazon rep told me if my original order ever arrived I could just keep it. A week later my original order arrived. Amazon has standard of standing behind its products that seems to be disappearing from this world. I do like the customer service Amazon offers.
Their customer service is like at 100. Their treatment of workers is more like a 2.

I once never got my 2TB ssd and I called them and they said just wait another day or two and asks neighbors, if it still isnt there they will just send another one and assume it was stolen.

F Sch I worked in the largest Amazon warehouse supposedly in the world here in Phoenix. The warehouse is a mile long with single up stairs break room and restrooms that can take as much as 7 minutes to get to. The rules were that in a shift you got a 30 minute lunch that started and ended at your work station meaning your 30 minute break started where you were and you had to back at your workstation no more than 30 minutes later. We also had to 15 minute breaks that had the same rule so if you needed a quick drink of water or snack you would only have a few minutes at the break room. Of course I was always stationed about a half mile from the break room. Yeah Amazon knows that if you don’t like it you can leave because there are always other suckers out there that will serve them. They only paid something like $13 an hour at that.

I tried to go to one of them when I was in Seattle a couple years ago (summer 2022) but all of them were somehow closed for the weekend I was there.
Just in case anyone was wondering, it turns out 700/1000 purchases required up 1000 human contractors' intervention to look at the camera feeds.
Their umtimate secret is that they have 1000 employees hard working behind the cameras figuring out every person's basket and tagging the items and charging you for it.

there is a little known fact about amazon (the online store): returned items very rarely make it back to the store. They are sent to a company that manages returns, and although some of those items will reappear on amazon as "used" or sold through other parties on the marketplace, most of it end up in discount stores that specialize in selling items that usually are written off, leftover stock, or items returned from retail stores for whatever reason. Reason is simply that Amazon doesn't have a system to process returns at all, or any logistics in place to restock their warehouses with returned items, and because they have such a high throughput of orders they flat out don't care about returns - anything that goes out is just making space for new items coming in

Not saying they are stupid. What I am saying is a lot of them don't want to take the time to learn new technology and still have dumb phones which prevents them from using this grocery store even if they learned how to.
